  • An expectation-maximization (EM) based Bayesian adaptation method for the mean of noise is proposed for noise-robust speech recognition. In the algorithm, the on-line testing utterances are used for the unsupervised Bayesian adaptation and the prior distribution of the noise mean is estimated using the off-line training data. For the noisy speech modeling, the parallel model combination (PMC) method is employed. The proposed method has shown to be effective compared with the conventional PMC method for the speech recognition experiments in a car-noise condition.

  • The previous Bayesian document categorization method has problems that it requires a lot of time and effort in word clustering and it hardly reflects the semantic information between words. In this paper, we propose a weighted Bayesian document categorizing method based on association word knowledge base acquired by mining technique. The proposed method constructs weighted association word knowledge base using documents in training set. Then, classifier using Bayesian probability categorizes documents based on the constructed association word knowledge base. In order to evaluate performance of the proposed method, we compare our experimental results with those of weighted Bayesian document categorizing method using vocabulary dictionary by mutual information, weighted Bayesian document categorizing method, and simple Bayesian document categorizing method. The experimental result shows that weighted Bayesian categorizing method using association word knowledge base has improved performance 0.87% and 2.77% and 5.09% over weighted Bayesian categorizing method using vocabulary dictionary by mutual information and weighted Bayesian method and simple Bayesian method, respectively.

  • The Bayesian method is a very useful statistical tool in various fields including water resources. Therefore, in this study, the background of the Bayesian statistics and its application to the water resources field are reviewed. First, the history of the Bayesian method from the birth to the present, and the achievements of Bayesian statisticians are summarized. Next, the derivation of the Bayes' theorem, which is the basis of the Bayesian method, is presented, and the roles of the three elements of the Bayes' theorem: priori distribution, likelihood function, and posteriori distribution are explained. In addition, the unique features and advantages of the Bayesian statistics are summarized. Finally, the cases in water resources where the Bayesian method is applied are summarized by dividing them into several categories. With a prevalence of information and big data in the future, the Bayesian method is expected to be used more actively in the water resources field.

  • Due to the view point, illumination, personal gait and other background situation, person re-identification across cameras has been a challenging task in video surveillance area. In order to address the problem, a novel method called Joint Bayesian across different cameras for person re-identification (JBR) is proposed. Motivated by the superior measurement ability of Joint Bayesian, a set of Joint Bayesian matrices is obtained by learning with different camera pairs. With the global Joint Bayesian matrix, the proposed method combines the characteristics of multi-camera shooting and person re-identification. Then this method can improve the calculation precision of the similarity between two individuals by learning the transition between two cameras. For investigating the proposed method, it is implemented on two compare large-scale re-ID datasets, the Market-1501 and DukeMTMC-reID. The RANK-1 accuracy significantly increases about 3% and 4%, and the maximum a posterior (MAP) improves about 1% and 4%, respectively.

  • The Joint Bayesian (JB) method has been used in most state-of-the-art methods for face verification. However, since the publication of the original JB method in 2012, no improved verification method has been proposed. A lot of studies on face verification have been focused on extracting good features to improve the performance in the challenging Labeled Faces in the Wild (LFW) database. In this paper, we propose an improved version of the JB method, called the two-dimensional Joint Bayesian (2D-JB) method. It is very simple but effective in both the training and test phases. We separated two symmetric terms from the three terms of the JB log likelihood ratio function. Using the two terms as a two-dimensional vector, we learned a decision line to classify same and not-same cases. Our experimental results show that the proposed 2D-JB method significantly outperforms the original JB method by more than 1% in the LFW database.

  • Recently, Performance Based Design (PBD) method has been studied as a next generation structural design method, which enables a designed structure to satisfy the required performance during its service life. One method of deciding whether the required performance has been satisfied is Bayesian method, which has been commonly used in seismic analysis. Generally, it is presented as a conditional probability of exceeding some limit state (i.e., collapse) for a given ground motion. In PBD of concrete mixture design, the same methodology can be applied to assess concrete material performance based on some conditional parameters (i.e. strength, workability, carbonation, etc). In this paper, a detailed explanation of the procedure of drawing satisfaction curve by using Bayesian method based on various material parameters is shown. Also, a discussion of using the developed satisfaction curves for PBD for concrete mixture design is presented.

  • This paper proposes novel texture segmentation method using Bayesian estimation method and neural networks. We use multi-scale wavelet coefficients and the context information of neighboring wavelets coefficients as the input of networks. The output of neural networks is modeled as a posterior probability. The context information is obtained by HMT(Hidden Markov Tree) model. This proposed segmentation method shows better performance than ML(Maximum Likelihood) segmentation using HMT model. And post-processed texture segmentation results as using multi-scale Bayesian image segmentation technique called HMTseg in each segmentation by HMT and the proposed method also show that the proposed method is superior to the method using HMT.

  • Recognition model is not defined when you configure a model, Been added to the model after model building awareness, Model a model of the clustering due to lack of recognition models are generated by modeling is causes the degradation of the recognition rate. In order to improve decision tree state tying modeling using parameter estimation of Bayesian method. The parameter estimation method is proposed Bayesian method to navigate through the model from the results of the decision tree based on the tying state according to the maximum probability method to determine the recognition model. According to our experiments on the simulation data generated by adding noise to clean speech, the proposed clustering method error rate reduction of 1.29% compared with baseline model, which is slightly better performance than the existing approach.
