WSN Lifetime Analysis: Intelligent UAV and Arc Selection Algorithm for Energy Conservation in Isolated Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely used in geographically isolated applications like military border area monitoring, battle field surveillance, forest fire detection systems, etc. Uninterrupted power supply is not possible in isolated locations and hence sensor nodes live on their own battery power. Localization of sensor nodes in isolated locations is important to identify the location of event for further actions. Existing localization algorithms consume more energy at sensor nodes for computation and communication thereby reduce the lifetime of entire WSNs. Existing approaches also suffer with less localization coverage and localization accuracy. The objective of the proposed work is to increase the lifetime of WSNs while increasing the localization coverage and localization accuracy. A novel intelligent unmanned aerial vehicle anchor node (IUAN) is proposed to reduce the communication cost at sensor nodes during localization. Further, the localization computation cost is reduced at each sensor node by the proposed intelligent arc selection (IAS) algorithm. IUANs construct the location-distance messages (LDMs) for sensor nodes deployed in isolated locations and reach the Control Station (CS). Further, the CS aggregates the LDMs from different IUANs and computes the position of sensor nodes using IAS algorithm. The life time of WSN is analyzed in this paper to prove the efficiency of the proposed localization approach. The proposed localization approach considerably extends the lifetime of WSNs, localization coverage and localization accuracy in isolated environments.

  • This paper describes an study electric injection system for diesel engines. It is needed effective fuel injection which controls the solenoid valve of fuel pump. To solve this, this paper proposes DCC-PWM method which can realize fast reply and low holding current for solenoid valve on/off. For the proposed design method, simulation tools of ACSL are used to analyze the system. And the single-chip microcomputer is used to reduce the size of controller and to improve flexibility. And the systems validity can be verified through the experimental results.

  • In this paper, high performance radio buoy system for inshore and deep sea fishery is proposed and implemented. Binary FSK modulation technique is used for real-time communication & control between buoys and buoy finder, and optimum access protocol is adopted for minimizing the power consumption of radio buoy system. Using the GPS and sensor techniques, location and environments of radio buoy can be accurately monitored and traced by the mother ship. Developed buoy system with 10 W transmitting power can cover over 120km coastal range and operate more than 73 days of battery life. Proposed digital coding methods can also assure high security from burglary and loss.

  • Due to enhanced demands on quality, security and reliability of the electric power energy system, a microgrid has become a subject of special interest. In this paper, output characteristics of energy storage system (ESS) with an electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) and battery energy storage system (BESS) of a renewable energy based microgrid were analyzed under grid-connected and islanded operation modes. The microgrid which consists of photovoltaic and wind power turbine generators, diesel generator, ESS with an EDLC, BESS and loads was modeled using real time digital simulator. The results present the effective control patterns of the microgrid system.

  • There are a lot of multimedia functions getting included in mobile devices recently, not only simple audio but visual functions as well, such as video playing, game and web browsing. Such the visual multimedia functions brought the strong requirement for much bigger LCD Display and high resolution. And the brightness of LCD is also one of major requirements and it is required to be more bright. However, LCD brightness is limited to increase because of power consumption. It occupies nearly 30% of the whole system power. This thesis suggests an effective and simple method of adjusting the LCD backlight brightness, considering a characteristic of battery and user pattern.

  • In this paper, we propose an energy-aware source routing protocol for maximizing a network lifetime in mobile ad hoc network environments. The proposed routing protocol is based on the source routing and chooses a path that maximize the path lifetime, by considering both transmit/receive power consumption and residual battery power in the mobile nodes from the perspective of source-destination end-to-end. This paper proposes a new routing cost and designs a new routing protocol for minimizing the control packet overhead occurred during the route discovery. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has similar performances to the conventional routing schemes in terms of the number of transmission hops, transmission rate and total energy consumption, but achieves the performance improvement of 20 percent with respect to the lifetime.

MAC is different from traditional wireless MACs such as IEEE 802.11 in almost every way. so self-configuration and power saving in sensor network are very important goals, while per-node fairness and latency are less important. In this paper, so we use a given prototype for efficient energy conservation to reduce power consumtion that is one of the important character in sensor network and compare energy consumption and collision with IEEE 802.11 MAC. finally we conclude the paper and analyze it.

  • For many years there has been a trend to increased electrical energy consumption in cars caused by the replacement of mechanical parts by electronic or mechanical devices as well as the introduction of new electronic features. Whereas the number of electrical consumers continues to increase, the battery is still the only passive power source available. Because of this reason, needs for driving power of the engine accessories such as alternator system have increased. Usually, conventional alternator system is directly driven by the crankshaft of engine with belt. Since this increase bring about additional fuel economy. To improve this system automobile makers develops new controled alternator system. This paper focuses on fuel economy improvement according to control of alternator. In this paper, researches are performed on effect of type of Alternator system on fuel economy by experiment. And it is also calculated the effect on vehicle fuel economy using computer simulation with AVL cruise software. As a result, 0.64% of vehicle fuel economy improvement can be achieved in a vehicle with controled Alternator system compared to a vehicle with conventional Alternator system in NEDC mode.
