  • This paper describes the implementation of UPS system controlled by the DSP. The digital techniques have been used tn overcome the problems of UPS system controlled by analog control circuits. By developing these systems using the digital technique we could increase the reliability and improve the electrical characteristics. And we designed and developed the system which is able to control UPSs and to monitor errors, statuses and actual values transmitted from UPS through internet. The UPSs also impose high demands on battery life time, reliability and energy-efficiency. These requirements can only be met by employing sophisticated battery management system(BMS). Therefore, a highly accurate, universal and inexpensive measuring system for BMS was developed.

  • Lithium-ion batteries are actively used in various industrial sites such as field robots, drones, and electric vehicles due to their high energy efficiency, light weight, long life span, and low self-discharge rate. When using a lithium-ion battery in a field, it is important to accurately estimate the SoC (State of Charge) of batteries to prevent damage. In recent years, SoC estimation using data-based artificial neural networks has been in the spotlight, but it has been difficult to deploy in the embedded board environment at the actual site because the computation is heavy and complex. To solve this problem, neural network lightening technologies such as network pruning have recently attracted attention. When pruning a neural network, the performance varies depending on which layer and how much pruning is performed. In this paper, we introduce an optimized pruning technique by improving the existing pruning method, and perform a comparative experiment to analyze the results.

  • A novel process to recover lithium and manganese oxides from a cathode material (LiMn2O4) of spent lithium-ion battery was attempted using thermal reaction with hydrogen gas at elevated temperatures. A hydrogen gas as a reducing agent was used with LiMn2O4 powder and it was found that separation of Li2O and MnO was taken place at 1050℃. The powder after thermal process was washed away with distilled water and only lithium was dissolved in the water and manganese oxide powder left behind. It was noted that manganese oxide powder was found to be 98.20 wt.% and the lithium content in the solution was 1,928 ppm, respectively.

  • Sensor network consists of a large number of sensor nodes that are densely deployed either inside the phenomenon or very close to it. The life time of each node in the sensor network significantly affects the life time of whole sensor network. A node which drained out its battery may incur the partition of whole network in some network topology The life time of each node depends on the battery capacity of each node. Therefore if all sensor nodes in the network live evenly long, the life time of the network will be longer. In this paper, we propose Cluster-Based Power-Efficient Routing (CBPER) Protocol which provides scalable and efficient data delivery to multiple mobile sinks. Previous r(luting protocols, such as Directed Diffusion and TTDD, need to flood many control packets to support multiple mobile sinks and many sources, causing nodes to consume their battery. In CBPER, we use the fact that sensor nodes are stationary and location-aware to construct and maintain the permanent grid structure, which makes nodes live longer by reducing the number of the flooding control packets. We have evaluated CBPER performance with TTDD. Our results show that CBPER is more power-efficient routing protocol than TTDD.

  • In order to improve the electrochemical performances of Li-ion batteries when spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ is employed as a cathode active material, binary conductive agents were prepared using two different particle-sized carbons like Super P Black and $Vulcan^{(R)}$ XC-72R. The electrochemical performances of the $LiMn_2O_4$ cell system using binary conductive agents were evaluated in terms of specific charge and discharge capacities and cycle life. The cell with binary conductive agent in the 3:7 weight ratios of Super P Black and $Vulcan^{(R)}$ XC-72R showed better electrochemical performances due to the proper combination of ionic diffusion rate and electric contact.

  • Cycle life test was carried out to evaluate the failure modes of the gel type nth batteries at $C_5$ currents and $100\%$ DOD. When the batteries were charged at constant voltage of 2.40 V and 2.50 Vi respectively, cycle lift was over 1,000 cycles. The batteries lost 426.4 g and 391.2 g of electrolyte far each case after the weight measurement. The battery charged at 2.50 V was shown to have a better cyclic performance than charged at 2.40 V, and the amounts of electrolyte loss was proportional to charge factor. After cycle test, the micro-structure of positive active material was completely changed and the corrosion layer of positive grid was about $50{\mu}m$. Failure mode of the positive plate of the gel type battery was a shedding of the positive active material, and the cause of discharge capacity decrease was found to be a electrolyte loss.

  • In this paper, a new type of implantable middle ear hearing aid, which consists of external loop coil, a small magnet and a simple external device, is proposed. The internal device of proposed type consists of only a small magnet and the external device does not need to be positioned behind the ear or in the ear canal. The proposed type is excellent in cosmetic sides and very convenient to use, because the external device can be hidden in upper garment and collar of clothes. Also, purposely this type doesn't need to be small on the size of battery, which means it has longer battery life. Therefore, the battery is not necessary to be charged frequently. It also can solve the difficulty of gap calibration at surgical operation which conventional Implantable middle. Therefore, the battery is not necessary to be charged frequently. It also can solve the difficulty of gap calibration at surgical operation which conventional implantable middle ear hearing aid has. We investigate the performance of proposed implantable middle ear bearing aid and we analyze that proposed type is appropriate for mild and severe hearing impaired person and the result of experiment showed the accuracy of our analysis. For the validation of our analysis we used the temporal bone at the experiment and confirm that ossicles can be vibrated when the proposed system In startled in the body.

  • This paper aims to report the effect of surface treatment on graphite and its effect on the improvement of $Al_2O_3$ and $nano-Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$. The structure and property of surface treatment on graphite were determined by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and electrochemical property and safety were determined by charge/discharge cycler, accelerating rate calorimeter. The composite with different metallic oxide exhibited the first efficiency of 82.5% and specific capacity of 350 mAh/g. Although the composite showed same efficiency and specific capacity at first cycle, surface treatment on graphite by $nano-Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ exhibited a higher charge/discharge rate, cycle life and thermal stability.

  • Lithium-ion battery (LIB) is one of the most important rechargeable battery and portable energy storage for the electric digital devices. In particular, study about the higher energy capacity and longer cycle life is intensively studied because of applications in mobile electronics and electric vehicles. Generally, the LIB's capacity can be improved by replacing anode materials with high capacitance. The graphite, common anode materials, has a good cyclability but shows limitations of capacity (~374 mAh/g). On the contrary, silicon (Si) and germanium(Ge), which is same group elements, are promising candidate for high-performance LIB electrodes because it has a higher theoretical specific capacity. (Si:4200 mAh/g, Ge:1600 mAh/g) However, it is well known that Si volume change by 400% upon full lithiation (lithium insertion into Si), which result in a mechanical pulverization and poor capacity retention during cycling. Therefore, variety of nanostructure group IV elements, including nanoparticles, nanowires, and hollow nanospheres, can be promising solution about the critical issues associated with the large volume change. However, the fundamental research about correlation between the composition and structure for LIB anode is not studied yet. Herein, we successfully synthesized various structure of nanowire such as Si-Ge, Ge-Carbon and Si-graphene core-shell types and analyzed the properties of LIB. Nanowires (NWs) were grown on stainless steel substrates using Au catalyst via VLS (Vapor Liquid Solid) mechanism. And, core-shell NWs were grown by VS (Vapor-Solid) process on the surface of NWs. In order to characterize it, we used FE-SEM, HR-TEM, and Raman spectroscopy. We measured battery property of various nanostructures for checking the capacity and cyclability by cell-tester.
