자기공명영상에서 다양한 구조들을 고려한 비선형 이방성 필터링 (Nonlinear Anisotropic Filtering with Considering of Various Structures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

  • In this paper, a nonlinear anisotropic filtering method without the loss of important information happened due to the repeated filtering in magnetic resonance images is proposed. First of all original images are divided into four regions, e.g., SPR(Strong Plain Region), EPR(Easy Plain Region), SER(Strong Edge Region), and EER(Easy Edge Region). An optimal template among multiple templates is selected, then the nonlinear anisotropic filtering based on the template is applied in pixel by pixel basis. In the proposed algorithm, filtering strength of EER containing important information is adjusted very weak and filtering strength for remaining regions is also adjusted according to the degree of the importance. In spite of repeated filtering, resulting images by the proposed method could still preserve anatomy information of original images without any degradation. Compared to the existing nonlinear anisotropic filtering, the proposed filtering method with multiple templates provides higher reliability for filtered images.

  • Ab initio periodic Hartree-Fock calculations with the full potential and minimum basis set are applied to interpretation of scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) images on 1TVTe2. Our results show that the simulated STM image shows asymmetry while the simulated AFM image shows the circular electron densities at the bright spots without asymmetry of electron density to agree with the experimental AFM image. The bright spots of both the STM and AFM images of VTe2 are associated with the surface Te atoms, while the patterns of bright spots of STM and AFM images are different.

  • In this paper, an algorithm for recovering the 3-D shape from a single shaded image is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, by using the relation between the height and surface gradient (p, q), a set of linear equations is derived from the linearized reflectance function. Then the 3-D surface is recovered by employing the conjugate gradient technique. In order to improve the convergence speed of the solution, we also employ the hierarchical basis function and multiresolution images in the algorithm. A method for determining the regularization parameter, which is determined by trial and error in the conventional approach, is also introduced. In addition, the proposed algorithm attempts to recover the 3-D surface without requiring the boundary conditions, making it suitable for a real-time implementation. Simulation results for real image as well as synthetic image are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

일반화 대칭변환을 변형한 관심 연산자에 의한 사전 정보없는 다중 물체 분할 (Context-free multiple-object segmentation using attention operator based on modified generalized symmetry transform)

  • An efficient context-free multiple-object segmentation using attention operator based on modified generalized symmetry transform is proposed and implemented by modifying a radial basis function network. By using the difference of intensity gradient, instead of te intensity gradient itself, in generalized symmetry tranform so as to make the attention operator to preserve the edges of the objects shape, an efficient context-free multiple-object segementation is proposed in which no a priori shape informtion on the objects is requried. The attention operator is implemented by using a modified radial basis function network which can reflect symmetry, and by using te edge pyramid of the input image, both of the local and the global symmetry of the objects are reflected simultaneously to make the multiple-object with different sizes be segmented with a singel fixed-size $n\timesm$ can be done with O(n) complexity. The simulaton results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently be used in context-free multiple-object segmentation even for the low contrast IR images as well as for the images from the camera.

  • This Paper proposes the simple and efficient image retrieval algorithm using subregional texture features. In order to retrieve images in terms of its contents, it is required to obtain a precise segmentation. However, it is very difficult and takes a long computing time. Therefore. this paper proposes a simple segmentation method, which is to divide an image into high and low entropy regions by using Picture Information Measure (PIM). Also, in order to describe texture characteristics of each region, this paper suggest six different texture features produced on the basis of co-occurrence matrix. For an image retrieval system, a normalised correlation is adopted as a similarity function, which is not dependent on the range of each texture feature values. Finally, this proposed algorithm is applied to a various images and produces competitive results.

Aspect feature extraction of an object using NMF

  • When we see an object, we usually can say what it is easily even for the case where the object isn't shown in the frontal view. However, it is difficult to believe that all views of every object we have ever seen are fully memorized in our brain. Possibly, when an object is shown, we have some typical views of the object in our brain through our past experience and reconstruct the view to recognize what the presented object is. Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) is one of the methods to extract the basis images from sample data set. The prominent feature of this method is that the reconstructed image is obtained by only additions of the basis images with suitable positive weights. So NMF can be seen more biologically plausible method than any other feature extraction methods such as Vector Quantization (VQ) and principal Component Analysis (PCA). In this paper, we adopt NMF to extract the aspect features from the set of images, which consists of various views of a given object. Some experiments are shown how much well NMF can extract the aspect features than any other methods such as VQ and PCA.

  • 비음수 행렬 분해 기법(non-negative matrix factorization)은 대표적인 부분 영역 기반 표현 기법의 하나로 영상의 부분적인 특징을 나타내는 기저 벡터의 선형 조합으로 영상을 표현하는 기법이다. 본 논문에서는 여러 가지 비음수 행렬 분해 기법을 이용하여 얼굴 영상을 표현하고, 추출된 특징을 기반으로 학습 벡터 양자화를 이용하여 얼굴 인식을 수행하였다. 추출된 각 기법의 기저 벡터를 비교하여 각 기법의 특징을 분석하였다. 또한 NMF 기법들의 인식율 검증을 통해 비음수 행렬 기법의 얼굴 인식에 대한 활용 가능성을 확인하였다.

Trade in Tourism Service on the Basis of Tourism System: A Mixed-methods Study of South Koreans to the United States

  • Purpose - Acknowledging the limitations of the widely-used concept of destination image, this study proposes the concept of tourism image using trade in tourism service on the basis of Leiper's (1990) tourism system. This new concept incorporates an image formed from South Koreans focusing on the tourist holistic experience relevant to the United States based on the tourist rather than the tourism destination. Design/methodology - A convergent parallel mixed-methods study design constituted the concept, which emerges from the analysis of narratives and quantitative examinations of South Koreans focusing on tourism experience to the United States. Findings - The study considers the following aspects in addition to destination image: first, images formed outside the destination, e.g., in the tourist generating region and the transit region; second, non-hedonic images, which are a part of the tourist experience despite not directly involving a visit to the tourist attractions; and third, non-service-driven elements, such as co-created destination images formed from interaction with residents and fellow tourists. Originality/value - The tourism image concept allows consideration of aspects that have been overlooked in destination image studies yet may affect the image of the tourism experience.

Enhanced Graph-Based Method in Spectral Partitioning Segmentation using Homogenous Optimum Cut Algorithm with Boundary Segmentation

  • Image segmentation is a very crucial step in effective digital image processing. In the past decade, several research contributions were given related to this field. However, a general segmentation algorithm suitable for various applications is still challenging. Among several image segmentation approaches, graph-based approach has gained popularity due to its basic ability which reflects global image properties. This paper proposes a methodology to partition the image with its pixel, region and texture along with its intensity. To make segmentation faster in large images, it is processed in parallel among several CPUs. A way to achieve this is to split images into tiles that are independently processed. However, regions overlapping the tile border are split or lost when the minimum size requirements of the segmentation algorithm are not met. Here the contributions are made to segment the image on the basis of its pixel using min-cut/max-flow algorithm along with edge-based segmentation of the image. To segment on the basis of the region using a homogenous optimum cut algorithm with boundary segmentation. On the basis of texture, the object type using spectral partitioning technique is identified which also minimizes the graph cut value.

영상의 1차 모멘트와 고유벡터를 이용한 얼굴인식 (Face Recognition Using First Moment of Image and Eigenvectors)

  • 본 논문에서는 영상의 1차 모멘트와 고유벡터를 이용한 효율적인 얼굴인식 방법을 제안하였다. 여기서 1차 모멘트는 입력되는 얼굴영상의 중심좌표를 계산하는 것으로 이는 영상의 중심이동에 따른 전처리로 인식에 불필요한 배경을 배제시킴으로써 인식성능을 개선하기 위함이다. 고유벡터는 얼굴의 특징인 기저영상으로 주요성분분석을 이용하여 추출하였다. 이는 2차의 통계성을 고려한 중복신호의 제거로 인식성능을 개선하기 위함이다. 제안된 방법을 각각 320*243 픽셀의 60개(15명*4장) 얼굴영상에 적용하여 city-block, Euclidean, 그리고 negative angle의 3가지 거리 척도를 분류척도로 이용하여 실험하였다. 실험결과, 중심이동의 제안된 방법은 전처리과정을 거치지 않는 기존방법보다 45개의 시험영상에서 평균적으로 약 1.6배 정도의 우수한 인식률과 약 3.9배 정도의 정확한 분류가 가능함을 확인하였다. 특히 city-block이 Euclidean 이나 negative angle의 거리척도보다 상대적으로 정확하게 분류함을 알 수 있다.
