For several years, graduate students and faculty of the Engineering Systems Research Center at U.C., Berkeley have been studying new methods of planning and scheduling in a computer integrated manufacturing environment, with particular emphasis on large scale integrated circuit fabrication. One part of this work, focusing on short interval scheduling, uses simulation models as a primary research tool. We have built two versions of the same basic model (programmed in C) to study two different problems (one deals with machine down time and the other with setup times). These have proven to be efficient for studying particular problems, but are difficult and time consuming to modify. We are convinced that our research will be more effective: (1) if it were easier to build special purpose models tailored to the research question at hand; and (2) if we had better interfaces to graphics output. Commercially available factory simulators are inadequate for this research for a variety of reasons. Existing packages such as SIMKIT, SLAM, SIMAN and EXCELL have their own weaknesses. Typically, they are hard to develop and to modify. They do not allow for adding new dispatching decisions or release decision. Also, it is hard to add more machines to existing environment or change the route the product flows. For these various reasons, we had developed a new simulation package having flexibility and modularity. In this paper, based on experiences gained in the application of object oriented programming, we discuss unique features of the simulator developed in OOPS and ways to take advantage of features in developing and using manufacturing simulation software written in the OOPS
New concepts and solutions for the Flexible Food Packaging Design have been demanded to meet the various customer's needs and to compete with other worldwide products. Future-oriented designs beyond the basic functions of preserving and protecting contents can only meet the demands on product's reliability and consumer's satisfaction, specially considering environmental issues. This study is to describe the spiritual values of Korean Flexible Food Packaging Design on the basis of comprehensive understanding and to identify the process of changes and developments. The thesis also forecasts the future of Flexible Food Packaging. Little progress in the Flexible Food Packaging has been made because of the slow response, only to meet the increasing demand without any statistical or theoretical study. On the contrary, Korean Flexible Food Packaging Design has been developed by imitating foreigners' and made mistake of not creating original design reflecting a native traditional culture. This study researches the roles of food-classified flexible packaging to predict the near future trend of packaging industry classifying those into functional, visual, environmental and industrial aspects.

Transparent In-doped (1 at.%) zinc oxide (IZO) thin films are deposited by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering with H2 mixed Ar atmosphere on glass substrate without any heating process. Even at room temperature, highly c-axis oriented IZO thin films were grown in perpendicular to the substrate. The hydrogenated IZO (IZO:H) film isolated in H2 atmosphere for 30 min exhibited an average optical transmittance higher than 85% and low electrical resistivity of less than 2.7 × 10?3 Ω·cm. These values are comparable with those of commercially available ITO. Each of the IZO films was used as an anode contact to fabricate organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and the device performances studied. At the current density of 1 × 103 A/m2, the OLEDs with IZO:H (H2) anode show excellent efficiency (11 V drive voltage) and a good brightness (8000 cd/m2) of the light emitted from the devices, which are as good as the control device built on a commercial ITO anode.

This study focused on the design and development of contents using Unplugged CS method to learn computer science knowledge. With the strengthening of software education, all universities students including elementary and junior high school students are demanding knowledge of computer science centered on the computational thinking. We have developed educational contents using unplugged computing method as a way to effectively learn the concept of computer science. First, we analyze the related research of Unplugged CS theory and investigate the educational method accordingly. And we divided the areas of computer science and selected learning concepts in each area. The contents of learning were divided into basic and intermediate classes considering the level of the learner. The subject of learning contents was selected evenly in the area of computer science and it consisted of 16 basic subjects and 16 intermediate subjects based on concepts that are important in each field. In order to confirm the validity of the Unplugged CS learning topic and the development contents for computer science, we conducted expert reviews and content validity tests. As a result of the validity test, the validity of the learning topic and area selection was found to be more than .92 for the CVI value and the validity of the 32 subject learning contents was over .935 in basic level and .925 in intermediate level for the CVI values. Based on the design contents, we developed digital contents for online learning and put them in the system. We expect that this study will contribute to the understanding of computer science for all, including elementary and junior-high school students as well as students at software - oriented universities, and contribute to the spread of software education.

Recently, in the academic disciplines critical thinking has been emphasized as the new evolution in education. Problem-based learning is suggested as the evolutionary learning method in developing critical thinking. In the nursing education, PBL is offered as an appropriate teaching method to prepare nurse student for professional. PBL is a student-centered learning strategy aimed at developing critical thinking, motivating self-directed study and attaining autonomy. The purpose of this study was to develop the communication curriculum of nursing education based on PBL and implementing of it. PBL module was developed focused on five communication situations. And learning strategies to facilitate the learning process and the guided questions to stimulate student inquiry were also developed. This PBL education was conducted for six students in the master's course during the 14 weeks from March, 2000 to June, 2000. The outcomes of the PBL education were examined based on the content analysis of the students reflective journal. As a result, it was found that students experienced the effect of it focused on self-oriented, group-oriented, and practice-oriented domain. In the self-oriented domain, the findings indicate that there were 5 kinds of concepts including 'motivation for self-directed study', 'transition toward certainty in knowledge acquisition', 'attempt to apply their prior knowledge into new situation', 'enhancement of self-image in real situation', 'self-growth with self reflection'. In the group-oriented domain, there were 3 kinds of concepts including 'cognitive work in group', 'perception of co-responsibility in attaining learning objectives', 'socialization with group members'. In the practice-oriented domain, there were 3 kinds of concepts including 'linkage theoretical knowledge with real situation', 'attempt to apply in real situation', 'development problem solving skill in real situation'. In conclusion, PBL had a significant effect on self, group, and clinical domain. And assessing PBL outcomes is challenging because standardized instrument do not develop yet. So the findings of this study can suggest the basic data for examining the PBL outcome.
This study aims at investigating basic safety consciousness as preprocessing of the establishment of experience-oriented safety education center in which citizens can have positive and active experience education, based on the data for which the investigators have investigated and analyzed such citizens' safety consciousness as awareness, consciousness and feedback of national safety accident, systematic prevention of safety accident and necessity of first-aid when safety accident happens, focused on citizens in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do where more than 1/3 of the national population live, for the purpose of establishing experience-oriented education center where citizens can be taught to prevent accidents wisely, picking up experiences of large or small accidents up to now. And the findings from the study support the followings : 1) Ordinary people think that danger factors have prevailed in our entire society, and fear that the danger may come to them directly.2) Ordinary people's consciousness of safety accident is low, that is because selfishness and 'take-it-easy' manner have prevailed in our entire society. 3) Ordinary people have the dread of safety accident individually, but they don't know how to deal with safety accident when it happened. 4) Although most people have taken lessons about safety accident, they still feel the need to have systematic education about safety accident. 5) Children and survey-respondents are highly concerned with prevention of safety accident, but there were few people who sent their children to 'safety accident prevention program by outside institute', still less they didn't participate in the above program. And especially they complained a lot about safety education conducted by school. 6) Most people truly felt the need that they should have experience-oriented safety education center to be able to see, hear and experience. The considerations (or suggestions) resulting from the above findings from the study will turn out that people will need such recreation facilities, rest and play space that the family can enjoy as space for the prevention of safety accident, appliance for field lesson and space for developed program, and in light of visitors' convenience, safer and more convenient vehicle service will have to be offered.
Design for improved usability is to understand products from the user's point of view so eventually to enhance the pleasantness users by reflecting it into the design. The philosophy of user-oriented design is an essence of human-centered product planning, and its application is more important for railway vehicle design, which is closely connected with everyday life. This study focused to define basic elements of train interior design concept, which considers convenience and comfort for passengers, by extracting and interpreting ergonomic requirements, as usability factors, of train toilet design. The study on user-oriented design of trains consists of the practice of sensibility engineering for the management of customers' emotions and its harmonious use on design, and aims on the embodiment of new ergonomic design. In the center, it has analyzed the criteria and characteristics of the user-oriented design and has concluded the design direction and components to a concrete idea and proposed prototypes, which may become a good example for train interior design later on. In addition, it proposes a direction, which may become a guideline of ergonomic design, to secure competition capacity. Moreover this study is concentrated on the physical environment and human behavior of train toilet users, on the analysis of factors necessary for adequate toilet design, and on the understanding of interface between its users. What is more, it proposes a module of development process and methods of approaching the interface. The study presents a design standard, under which the concrete data of the characteristics and practicable range and the convergent demands accelerate to the module could be confirmed and criticized. The study on the usability is going to contribute to more pleasant and comfortable train environments and consequently, it's going to create new values of increased railway competitiveness by design.
This study were conducted to reveal the awareness and competitiveness of Korean packaging industry in information technology(IT) and e-commerce. For the survey, 114 sample companies were selected representing all packaging materials, equipment and systems, institutes, consulting and trading companies. The trained interviewers spoke to the respondents who were at the position of packaging research and development and were considered knowledgeable about the level of IT in the company. The collected data were analyze in three major categories: IT fundamentals, usages, and company policy. From the results, packaging suppliers were at the very low level of IT fundamentals and uses compared to those of packaging users. The gap between packaging suppliers and users that access the Internet was seriously wide, and this trend was generally due to different size of company. Packaging suppliers were still at the basic level of information-oriented working environment.
Despite the importance of how the premedical education curriculum is organized, the basic direction of the curriculum has not been evaluated at a fundamental level. In order to explore the basic directions of the premedical education curriculum, this study examined medical education as a university education, the historical basis of premedical education, and the direction of the premedical education curriculum. Historically, as medical education was incorporated into the university education system, premedical education developed based on basic science and liberal arts education. Accordingly, the direction of the premedical education curriculum began to split into two approaches: one believing in a basic science-based education intended to serve as the foundation of medical training, and the other believing in a liberal arts-based education intended to cultivate the qualities of a doctor. In recent years, however, the binary division in the direction of premedical education has ceased to exist, and the paradigm has now shifted to an agreement that premedical education must cultivate the basic scientific competence required for learning medical knowledge as well as the social qualities that a doctor should have, which are cultivated through the liberal arts. Furthermore, it has been asserted that the direction of premedical education should move toward the qualities that will be required in the future. With the fourth industrial revolution underway, the role of doctors is now being re-examined. This means that today's medical education must change in a future-oriented way, and the direction of the premedical education curriculum must be on the same page.
The objective of this research is to evaluate the Creative Research Initiative Program (CRI), a national R&D program funded by the Ministry of Science & Technology in Korea. The evaluation of CRI covers the following research questions; 1) Have it set a unique position and characteristic distinguished from other government-funded R&D programs\ulcorner 2) Are the achievements of the program relevant to its goal\ulcorner 3) What is its performances and how much is it achieved its goal\ulcorner The results are the followings; 1) CRI is perceived as a pure basic research, distinguished from other national basic research programs, such as the Coal Oriented Basic Research Program and the SRC and ERC. 2) CRI is a well-adapted R&D program in confront of the environmental changes and R&D needs, as well as follows the planned R&D areas. 3) CRI have performed well in the raising-up world-class research leaders and the nation-wide diffusion of creative R&D culture, while it got few performances in the overcoming the limitation of the existing technologies and the independent development of original key technologies for future industries. However, the duration of the program, 5 year, is too short to expect concrete outcome, such as creating original technologies. Many of the outcomes of CRI gets a lot of attention from top class scientists in the world, it is expected to generate various R&D performances in the future.
