  • What is a role of the studies on spatial planning of Korean peninsular and its cities in the process of cooperation between and unification of South and North Korea? Where should the basic perspectives be oriented for the process? Can a comprehensive plan of North Korea have practical implications although South-North cooperation does not get into its stride? If it can, which contents should the plan cover? This study aims to contemplate these issues and to suggest a preliminary land development approach of North Korea, which would contribute academic and practical debates on the issues, at this juncture of the cascade of studies on spatial planning in North Korea. It assume South-North relation would evolve from 'reconciliation and cooperation' and 'confederation' into 'unification' of South and North Korea which is based on the official plan of South Korea. We suggest, as the basic perspectives of development approach, cooperation(or co-evolution), future-oriented sustainability, and parallel development of industry and physical infrastructure. The development potential of North Korea is explained by detail fields and sub-regions, which is used to analyse SWOT and to subsequently extract the basic directions(vision and strategies) of North Korea development. These directions are followed by the spatial structure plan to improve North Korea using the potential of the regions. Based on the plan, the development directions of detail fields are suggested.

  • In this study, the current conditions of the farming and fishing village housing improvement projects that were promoted for the last five years were examined, the results of the survey conducted among the promoters of the farming and fishing village housing improvement projects with regard to their level of satisfaction were analyzed, and the outcomes of the housing improvement projects and the improvement needs were derived for utilization as basic data for preparing an improvement plan for "the farming and fishing village housing improvement projects". Below are the results of this study and the proposals based on such. In view of the reality that the recipients of the farming and fishing village housing improvement projects are limited to the rural residents who are able to repay their loans, ways of actualizing the current loan limit of 60 million won should be prepared, taking into account the actual construction cost. Moreover, as the rural residents do not live on monthly salaries, the repayment periods of their loans should be adjusted to make them payable on a quarterly or a semi-annual basis, reflecting the reality of the farming villages, where loan repayment is based on the residents' yearly income. Further, policies guaranteeing the residential rights of those belonging to the low-income bracket who are unable to repay their loans must be established at the soonest possible time. In view of the realities in the farming villages, where there are 640,000 houses that are over 31 years old, the supply of 10,000 houses as part of the housing improvement projects is grossly inadequate. Of course, it cannot be said that all the residents who are living in worn-out houses have the necessary conditions for receiving support from the housing improvement fund. Therefore, policies supporting the speedy improvement of worn-out houses and guaranteeing the residential rights of those belonging to the low-income bracket are urgently needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the preference of colors in housing spaces by different type of personality and color preference by classifying dwellers various characteristics by MBTI to obtain basic informations for the color plan that satisfies their inner desire. The results of this study are as followed. Firstly, we could say about the color distribution of living spaces like that. The ceiling and general wall showed that N(white) systems and YR of bright tone was mostly distributed. The color of floor showed that the calm tone of YR was mostly distributed. Secondly, as for the favored colors of finishing material at each space, the biggest distribution of preference color was found as N(white) group(series) in case of ceilings. As for general walls, bright tone of N(white) group showed most in living rooms. In case of that of the floor, it showed the largest distribution of calm tone of YR. Point wall was preferred bright and brilliant in various kinds of color. Thirdly, as in favor of colors of closing materials, sensible types(S) are concentrated on common color groups, on the other hand, intuition types(N) prefer color groups of various kinds not only general preferred colors.

  • Purpose: Various policies to reduce the energy consumption have been carried out to save Earth environment against global warming and environmental pollution in many countries. Energy consumption of buildings in Korea has reached 24% of total energy consumption, and energy consumption of apartment has been continuously increasing. Therefore, Korea government has executed building energy efficiency rating certification system to control energy consumption of buildings. Method: This study was conducted to evaluate the energy performance of apartment unit plans according to the increasement of front width of unit plans, and tried to present the basic data to design more energy conscious unit plans for apartments. For the study, three shapes of unit plans -the 2Bay, 3Bay and 4bay unit- were selected for imput models. They were simulated using ECO2 software to assess building energy efficiency rating certification in Korea. Result: According to the results, in cases that balcony windows were not installed, the primary energy consumption of the 3Bay and 4Bay units were less than 2Bay unit, respectively, 0.1% and 2,5%. The primary energy consumption of the 3Bay and 4Bay units, in cases that balcony windows were installed, was less than 2Bay unit, respectively, 1.7% and 3.2%.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic information regarding the planning of lounge and hallway areas for skilled nursing facilities for the elderly, given that residents spend much of their time in these areas. This study examined Korean elderly residents' occupancy and behavior in lounges and hallways in order to analyze how plan type, spatial composition, and equipment affect residents. To do this, observations were conducted in five facilities that were provided to the elderly at no charge. Results indicate that a central garden offers a wide hallway area that can be used not only for strolling but also for list of activities; at the same time, it can reduce the overall rate of inactivity. A shorter distance between the lounge and hallway on the opposite side is likely to help better disperse residents' throughout the facility. Hallway corners have potential for activities that may require sofas, tables, or equipment for individual activities; they could also be used for planned interaction programs or unplanned collaboration on the part of small groups of residents.

  • This study is about the problems found in the process of the current governments planning rural settlement area development. As a measure to solve them, It proposed the analysis method of village characteristic in terms of standard score and tried to use this method as a basic material in planning more effective rural settlement area development. On the basis of the above analysis, which is an objective basic material to solve the problems revealed in the process of the bottom-up development planning by the residents' demands, It shows the following conclusion about what method should be applied to each part according to a village's characteristics and its development level. 1. Accessibility can be a basic material for setting the local area, analyzing its settlement system, and them such development facilities as village-linking roads, rural road, or various kinds of bridges and determining the investment priority. 2. With the index of the industrial basis, we can see what village has plenty of social, economical resources including advanced industrial facilities and looking into the advance level of the industrial basis, we can get some information about determining the local area development direction such as estashing the plan to build a farm product gathering center, a collective work place, storage facilities, and special housing development. 3. Since the issue about living environment is raising it's head, compared to weakened agricultural competitive power, with the analysis of this living environment, we can get an objective basic material for solving problems caused by the local egoism and the effective investment strategy of the limited resources. Therefore, It is necessary that we should abstain from expert-centered planning and formal public opinion-collecting and on the basis of this analytic result, we should plan development. We need to continue our research about index selecting and differentiation, weight etc. and using these analysis methods, we should make up a systematic development plan by analyzing village characteristics and setting the development direction.
