  • In dental resin cement studies, viscosity is also an important factor in the adhesion of tooth defects and implants. This study used BisGMA and HPMA as the main ingredients, triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) as a diluent, and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as a photoinitiator. The physical properties of graphene oxide used as an additive for functionality were evaluated, and its use as a dental resin cement material was investigated. The rupture strength has the tendency to increase along with the increase of the ratio of graphene oxide that was added, which seemed to reflect the effect of the high strength property of graphene oxide. The flexural strength also has the tendency to increase when about 0.5% of graphene oxide was added the same as the increase of rupture strength. When graphene oxide was added, according to viscosity use, the utilization as high-quality dental resin cements will increase.

  • In the present study, a series of tungsten austenitic stainless steel alloys have been developed by interchanging the molybdenum in standard SS316 by tungsten. This was done to minimize the long-life residual activation occurred in molybdenum and nickel after decommissioning of the power plant. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the prepared alloys are determined. For the sake of increasing multifunction property of such series of tungsten-based austenitic stainless steel alloys, gamma shielding properties were studied experimentally by means of NaI(Tl) detector and theoretically calculated by using the XCOM program. Moreover, fast neutrons macroscopic removal cross-section been calculated. The obtained combined mechanical, structural and shielding properties indicated that the modified austenitic stainless steel sample containing 1.79% tungsten and 0.64% molybdenum has preferable properties among all other investigated samples in comparison with the standard SS316. These properties nominate this new composition in several nuclear application domains such as, nuclear shielding domain.

  • MgO-C refractories are used in basic furnaces and steel ladles due to their many desirable properties, such as excellent thermal shock resistance via low thermal expansion, and high thermal conductivity. However, the mechanical and thermal properties of the refractory continuously deteriorate by spalling phenomena and pore generation due to the oxidation of graphite, used as a carbon source, indicating that the characteristics and performance of MgO-C refractories need to be improved by using a new material or composition. In this study, the use of a Hertzian indentation test as a method for determining the damage and fracture behavior of an MgO-C refractory is described. The results highlight that Hertzain indentation tests can be one of the important evaluation tools for quasi-plastic damage accumulation of MgO-C refractories during falling process of scrap metal.

  • The MiDF Cement Composite is a high-performance construction material with low defects that dehydrates surplus water through pressurization and minimizes air gap between particles. In other words, the performance expression of the MiDF cement complex is affected by pressurized conditions. Thus, this study analyzed the physical characteristics of MiDF cement complex according to the power and pressure of the ga-power and the time of application and intends to use it as a basic data for optimal mixing.

  • Curtain wall means a non-bearing wall that forms the outer walls of a building to divide the exterior and interior space. The increased use of curtain walls is diverse, including structural safety, watertightness, and wind pressure. As the government's energy conservation policy and the aim of zero-energy houses, the importance of heat reduction is also greatly increased. So, the study of monotony is constantly being conducted. Thus, in this study, insulation performance was analyzed through simulation according to the shape of curtain wall and the shape of insulation inside, and the purpose of this study was to provide basic data on the application of insulation criteria by energy saving design of buildings.

  • The use of a built-up H-beam (BH) that can easily manufacture a section is increasing. This is a basic study on standardization of BH. It confirmed the material properties of SM490 and SM520 steel such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, charpy absorbed energy, and else. The six BH specimens were manufactured with single-SAW or tandem-SAW. The welding performance was confirmed by collecting the macroscopic specimen and T-bar tensile specimen form the BH. As a result of the material property test, the properties of SM490 and SM520 which are made in Korea both satisfied the KS. As a result of the welding performance experiment, it is determined that the weld zone of BH has sufficient welding performance. Therefore, they are determined that the SM490 and SM520 steel are a proper material of BH, and the single-SAW and the tandem-SAW show a sufficient welding performance.

  • The material properties of gas turbine components change during the daily start/stop thermal cycle because of exposure to the hot combustion gas. Recently, single-crystal Ni-based superalloys have been used to manufacture many hot-gas components for gas turbines. However, the user needs to depend on the manufacturer for maintenance issues because of the lack of data required for predicting blade life and material degradation. In this study, we investigate the time-dependent degradation of first-stage blades at various operating facilities to collect the basic data for life assessment and damage analysis. The blade material is a single-crystal Ni-based superalloy, CMSX-4, and the EOH (equivalent operating hours) are 25,000 and 52,000, respectively. We prepared the test specimen directly from used blades and carried out mechanical tests and microstructural observations.

  • Probability based design(PBD) method is independent of construction materials and uses real material properties unlike allowable stress design(ASD) that depends on small clear specimen property, also give quantitative safety and endurance lifetime of a certain material. Moreover, almost advanced country accepted PBD method instead of ASD method. So it is urgent to convert the current ASD method into the PBD method. However, there are wholly lacking of domestic researches related to current issue, and to solve several points in ASD method and to take advantage of PBD method, the conversion from the ASD method into the PBD method is a worldwide trend. Other domestic construction codes, such as steel or concrete constructions, accept the PBD method as well. Accordingly, to introduce PBD method into wood structural design, general theory, and preliminary data and methods were reviewed. With keeping this in mind, some important contents were reviewed, sorted some points for wood structural design that have distinctions against the other construction materials. Furthermore, the history of PBD method, and statistical data and theories for the PBD method, and preliminary data of resistance and load that are two random variables for the PBD method, and finally the difference between limit state design(LSD) and load and resistance factor design(LRFD) that were two superpowers in the PBD method.

  • This paper gives the basic mechanical properties of indium-tin-oxide (ITO) films on polymer substrates which are exposed to externally and thermally induced bending force. By using modified Storney formula including triple layer structure and bulge test measuring the conductive changes of patterned ITO islands as a function of bending curvature, the mechanical stability of ITO films on polymer substrates was intensively investigated. The numerical analyses and experimental results show thermally and externally induced mechanical stresses in the films are responsible for the difference of thermal expansion between the ITO film and the substrate, and leer substrate material and its thickness, respectively. Therefore, a gradually ramped heating process and an organic buffer layer were employed to improve the mechanical stability, and then, the effects of the buffer layer were also quantified in terms of conductivity-strain variations. As a result, it is uncovered that a buffer layer is also a critical factor determining the magnitude of mechanical stress and the layer with the Young's modulus lower than a specific value can contribute to relieving the mechanical stress of the films.
