  • Image fusion is the process of combining information from two or more source images of a scene into a single composite image with application to many fields, such as remote sensing, computer vision, robotics, medical imaging and defense. The most common wavelet-based fusion is discrete wavelet transform fusion in which the high frequency sub-bands and low frequency sub-bands are combined on activity measures of local windows such standard deviation and mean, respectively. However, discrete wavelet transform is not translation-invariant and it often yields block artifacts in a fused image. In this paper, we propose a robust image fusion based on the stationary wavelet transform to overcome the drawback of discrete wavelet transform. We use the activity measure of interquartile range as the robust estimator of variance in high frequency sub-bands and combine the low frequency sub-band based on the interquartile range information present in the high frequency sub-bands. We evaluate our proposed method quantitatively and qualitatively for image fusion, and compare it to some existing fusion methods. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is more effective and can provide satisfactory fusion results.

  • A transparent antenna designed on the front glass of an automobile operating in the FM broadcast band(88~108 MHz) is proposed. A transparent antenna designed on the front glass of the automobile to avoid space limitation is typically positioned as a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna. An antenna designed on the front glass can reasonably solve the problems of low reception sensitivity and radiated interference from antennas for other service bands. The front glass has a unique closed-line structure, and this structure causes the surface current to flow to the front glass's surroundings; thus, the first resonance is caused before the broadcast band. Through the use of this closed-line structure, the surface current distribution is controlled, and an antenna for which the first resonance is operating in the frequency-modulated(FM) band can be designed. Moreover, the use of a micro-metal-mesh film that is a transparent electrode, suitable for designing a radio frequency device, enables the antenna to minimize visual perception through its transparency. The measured reflection coefficient($S_{11}$) of the antenna is less than -6 dB, and the average peak gain is -0.9 dB in the FM band. Experiments show that the transparent antenna on the front glass offers both the space and design freedom required to develop future automotive antennas.

  • In order to produce crop information using remote sensing, we use classification and growth monitoring based on crop phenology. Therefore, time-series satellite images with a short period are required. However, there are limitations to acquiring time-series satellite data, so it is necessary to use fusion with other earth observation satellites. Before fusion of various satellite image data, it is necessary to overcome the inherent difference in radiometric characteristics of satellites. This study performed Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) cross calibration with Landsat-8 as the first step for fusion. Top of Atmosphere (TOA) Reflectance was compared by applying Spectral Band Adjustment Factor (SBAF) to each satellite using hyperspectral sensor band aggregation. As a result of cross calibration, KOMPSAT-3 and Landsat-8 satellites showed a difference in reflectance of less than 4% in Blue, Green, and Red bands, and 6% in NIR bands. KOMPSAT-3, without on-board calibrator, idicate lower radiometric stability compared to ladnsat-8. In the future, efforts are needed to produce normalized reflectance data through BRDF (Bidirectional reflectance distribution function) correction and SBAF application for spectral characteristics of agricultural land.

  • In order to prolong the Shin-Hallyu and make a significant leap forward, we analyzed the characteristics of Jambinai, Singsing Band, and Ackdan Gwangchil, bands that are recognized globally for their musicality and popularity. First, the socio-cultural background behind the world's attention on korean traditional music lies in the racial and cultural diversity that embraces the non-mainstream identity. In particular, the success of Korean traditional music fusion bands in non-Asian countries can satisfy their public seeking to enjoy an exotic culture that is different from Western culture. it is necessary to recognize cultural, social and musical differences depending on the country or ethnicity and to approach them accordingly. Second, in the same Asian region, Korean traditional music is not given a sense of homogeneity, but in the West, the Eastern heterogeneity seems to have become a stronger ompetitive edge. With the expansion of the new Korean Wave to various regions, it is necessary to try to form a regional repertoire. Third, we found the validity of the convergence with the new Korean Wave through the characteristics of Gugak musicians as the main body to build a world of traditional music and enable popularization and globalization. It is necessary to highlight korea's traditional cultural value through analytical research on the effects of tone, composition and directing techniques reflected in korean traditional music or musical elements. The uniqueness and Korean values provided by Gugak will serve as homogeneity in Asia and heterogeneity in Europe and the United States, presenting the possibility of New Hallyu content and contributing to the prolonged Korean Wave.

  • Band-notched ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas using frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) are presented. The proposed antennas utilized the band rejection characteristic of typical FSS unit cells. We loaded the FSS unit cells on the same plane of planar UWB antenna. These antennas are designed to reject the interference from the wireless local area network band, 5.15-5.825 GHz in the UWB band, 3.1-10.6 GHz. The measured peak gains of the proposed antennas are more than 2 dBi at both operation edge and center frequencies, and sufficient to apply for commercial purpose. The antennas are small size and planar shape for the purpose of the small mobile application, and enhanced design freedom by using various existing FSS unit cells.

  • Generally, butt welds with plate thickness $30{\sim}40mm$ are welded with groove angle $40^{\circ},\;60^{\circ},\;70^{\circ}$, etc. In the detection of internal weld defects, oblique testing with single probe has been mainly used. But, recently, in acccordance with enlargement of welded structure, thick plate with 100-200mm are frequently required. Thus I-groove welding method was lately developed and often used. In this case, most frequently generated defects are the lack of weld penetration and incomplete fusion between base metal and welding material. If we would detect by oblique testing with single probe, detecting flaw is occassionally impossible or very underestimated. In this study, the limit for applying tandem method was studied in dise and band type flaws. The estimation of flaw size could be within 10% error compared to real flaws.

  • Ankyloglossia is the presence of a lingual frenulum, which can range from a mucous membrane band to a short and thick band and, in extreme cases, to fusion of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. The effects of such a condition, in addition to speech defects and occasionally restriction of sucking, including dental deformities, such as open bite, or even prognathism. Treatment is surgical. The preferred treatment is horizontal sectioning of the frenulum down to the lingual septum and then suturing of the mucosa. The main problem after the healing of surgical wound is adhesion and contracture. Adhesion restrict the movement of tongue like tongue-tie. Z-plasty at the site of incision can solve this problem by changing the direction of scar. We have experienced a patient with ankyloglossia with speech defect, who underwent frenuloomy by Z-plasty. So we present a surgical treatment of Ankyloglossia using Z-plasty and discuss the treatment with a review of literature.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique to determine the normal and arc of an alternating current using a mixed filter composed of an average filter and a band-pass filter and a frequency analysis. The proposed method uses the moving average filter of the FIR filter structure for noise removal and the band-pass filter of the IIR filter structure for detecting only specific frequency components after normalizing the measured current signal based on the maximum value. After performing Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) using the band-pass filtered signal, the total energy is calculated using the magnitude component of the frequency, and the arc is detected using the magnitude of the calculated energy. In order to show the validity of the proposed method, we experimented with various data and found that arc and steady state can be easily discriminated by calculating spectral energy. Therefore, it is considered that the proposed method can be applied to arc diagnosis of low voltage electric wire.

  • By analyzing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) theory of the conventional true color night vision system, we found that the output image SNR is limited by the wavelength range of the system response λ1 and λ2. Therefore, we built a double-channel four-band true color night vision system to expand the system response to improve the output image SNR. In the meantime, we proposed an image fusion method based on principal component analysis (PCA) and nonsubsampled shearlet transform (NSST) to obtain the true color night vision images. Through experiments, a method based on edge extraction of the targets and spatial dimension decorrelation was proposed to calculate the SNR of the obtained images and we calculated the correlation coefficient (CC) between the edge graphs of obtained and reference images. The results showed that the SNR of the images of four scenes obtained by our system were 125.0%, 145.8%, 86.0% and 51.8% higher, respectively, than that of the conventional tri-band system and CC was also higher, which demonstrated that our system can get true color images with better quality.

  • Adsorption of 4,4'-bis(mercaptomethyl)biphenyl (44BMBP) on silver nanoparticles has been investigated by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. In addition, the Raman spectra of 44BMBP in solid state and in basic condition have been obtained for comparative study to elicit the characteristics of adsorption. The observed Raman and SERS spectra were analyzed comparing with the normal modes and vibrational frequencies from density functional theory (DFT) calculations performed for the feasible structures of 44BMBP molecule. On the basis of excellent agreement between the calculated and the experimental results, the molecule is found to have both the cis- and trans-forms for the mercaptomethyl groups in the solid state as well as in the basic condition. In contrast, the molecule is found to be chemisorbed on the silver surface by forming two Ag-S linkages only in the cis-form but not in the trans-form due to the steric interruption, which indicates the parallel orientation of molecules on the surface. Particularly, the spectral features in the SERS spectra such as the absence of the C-H stretching band and enhancement for the out-of-plane skeletal modes are confirmatory for the parallel geometry through ${\pi}$ interaction between the phenyl rings and the metal surface, based on the electromagnetic surface selection rule.
