  • We show the existence of the unique solution of the following system of the nonlinear wave equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions and periodic conditions under some conditions $U_{tt}-U_{xx}+av^+=s{\phi}_{00}+f$ in $(-{\frac{\pi}{2},{\frac{\pi}{2}}){\times}R$, ${\upsilon}_{tt}-{\upsilon}_{xx}+bu^+=t{\phi}_{00}+g$ in $(-{\frac{\pi}{2},{\frac{\pi}{2}}){\times}R$, where $u^+$ = max{u, 0}, s, t ${\in}$ R, ${\phi}_{00}$ is the eigenfunction corresponding to the positive eigenvalue ${\lambda}_{00}$ of the wave operator. We first show that the system has a positive solution or a negative solution depending on the sand t, and then prove the uniqueness theorem by the contraction mapping principle on the Banach space.

  • For a nonautonomous dynamics defined by a sequence of bounded linear operators on a Banach space, we give a characterization of the existence of an exponential dichotomy with respect to a sequence of norms in terms of the invertibility of a certain linear operator between general admissible spaces. This notion of an exponential dichotomy contains as very special cases the notions of uniform, nonuniform and tempered exponential dichotomies. As applications, we detail the consequences of our results for the class of tempered exponential dichotomies, which are ubiquitous in the context of ergodic theory, and we show that the notion of an exponential dichotomy under sufficiently small parameterized perturbations persists and that their stable and unstable spaces are as regular as the perturbation.

  • The famous Newton-Kantorovich hypothesis has been used for a long time as a sufficient condition for the convergence of Newton method to a solution of an equation in connection with the Lipschitz continuity of the Frechet-derivative of the operator involved. Using Lipschitz and center-Lipschitz conditions we show that the Newton-Kantorovich hypothesis is weakened. The error bounds obtained under our semilocal convergence result are finer and the information on the location of the solution more precise than the corresponding ones given by the dominating Newton-Kantorovich theorem, and under the same hypotheses/computational cost, since the evaluation of the Lipschitz also requires the evaluation of the center-Lipschitz constant. In the case of local convergence we obtain a larger convergence radius than before. This observation is important in computational mathematics and can be used in connection to projection methods and in the construction of optimum mesh independence refinement strategies.

  • Let T be a bounded linear operator on a Banach space X. And let ${{\rho}T}(X)$ be the local resolvent set of T at $x\;{\in}\;X$. Then we prove that a complex number ${\lambda}$ belongs to ${{\rho}T}(X)$ if and only if there is a sequence $\{x_{n}\}$ in X such that $x_n\;=\;(T - {\lambda})x_{n+1}$ for n = 0, 1, 2,..., $x_0$ = x and $\{{\parallel}x_n{\parallel}^{\frac{1}{n}}\}$ is bounded.

  • Let E be a real q-uniformly smooth Banach space which admits a weakly sequentially continuous duality map, and K a nonempty closed convex subset of E. Let T : K -> K be a mapping such that $F(T)\;=\;{x\;{\in}\;K\;:\;Tx\;=\;x}\;{\neq}\;0$ and (I - T) satisfies the accretive-type condition: $\;{\geq}\;{\lambda}$\mid$$\mid$x-Tx$\mid$$\mid$^2$, for all $x\;{\in}\;K,\;x^*\;{\in}\;F(T)$ and for some ${\lambda}\;>\;0$. The weak and strong convergence of the Ishikawa iteration method to a fixed point of T are investigated. An application of our results to the approximation of a solution of a certain linear operator equation is also given. Our results extend several important known results from the Mann iteration method to the Ishikawa iteration method. In particular, our results resolve in the affirmative an open problem posed by Naimpally and Singh (J. Math. Anal. Appl. 96 (1983), 437-446).

  • In this paper, we compute the generalized 𝛼-Köthe Toeplitz duals of the X-valued (Banach space) difference sequence spaces E(X, ∆), E(X, ∆𝜐) and obtain a generalization of the existing results for 𝛼-duals of the classical difference sequence spaces E(∆) and E(∆𝜐) of scalars, E ∈ {ℓ, c, c0}. Apart from this, we compute the generalized 𝛼-Köthe Toeplitz duals for E(X, ∆r) r ≥ 0 integer and observe that the results agree with corresponding results for scalar cases.
