  • Atrial fibrillation treatment includes 3D RFCA and Cryo-balloon ablation. Both procedures have in common that they enter after understanding the structure of the heart using angiography equipment. Therefore, there is a disadvantage that the effect of exposure according to the procedure time can be a threat to both the patient and the operator, so this study aims to confirm the relationship between the total ablation time and the effect of radiation exposure. We used follow-up data (retrospective) from 41 patients who underwent coronary angiography and arrhythmia at the same time from March 2019 to July 2022. The range for total ablation time was based on the recorded data from the start to the end of the total ablation. The end point of 3D RFCA was when the ablation was completed for 4 pulmonary veins, and in the case of Cryo-balloon ablation, the data that succeeded in electrical insulation were included. As a result of analyzing the total ablation time, the time taken for Cryo-balloon ablation was 1037.29±103.66 s, which was 2448.61 s faster than 3D RFCA using 3485.9±405.71 s, and was statistically significant. (p<0.05) As a result of analyzing the total fluoroscopy time, the exposure time for 3D RFCA was 2573.75±239.08 s, which was less by 1717.15 s than the exposure time for Cryo-balloon ablation, 4290.9±420.42 s, and was statistically significant. In the case of total area dose product, 3D RFCA was 59.04±13.1 uGy/m2, which was lower than Cryo-balloon ablation 980.6±658.07 uGy/m2 by 921.56 uGy/m2, which was statistically significant. As the insulation time of the Cryo-balloon ablation is shorter than that of the 3D RFCA, the method using the Cryo-balloon ablation is considered to be effective when the patient's condition is not good and a quick procedure is required. However, in patients with permanent Atrial fibrillation, there is a high probability of structural changes in the heart, so it is considered that 3D RFCA is better than Cryo-balloon ablation, which is difficult to manipulate.

  • This paper proposes CORBA-based visual servoing system of humanoid robot. To effectively control the humanoid robot which is connected to network, it needs to define necessary services for visual servoing as distribution object, and realize them in the middleware. For realizing it following services should be addressed. Naming service for searching a necessary service with unique name assigned to each object, image service for supplying image obtained from stereo camera. In the experiment, we show the result of balloon tracking and bursting that the robot tracks balloons as target objects in the real time, and if a balloon stop for a certain time, then the robot bursts the balloon.

  • Active contour model or snake is widely used for segmentation method in the area of the image processing and computer vision. The main problem in the active contour model is that results are very dependent to the closet points of the numbers and the location in initial step. Especially, in case of balloon-like active contour model, the small region which consist of intial closet points are expanded until the edge is reached. It is a serious problem because the considered region are huge with limited points. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose the method that the number of closet points could be change based on the distance between points.

  • Histone deacetylases (HDACs) play a pivotal role in epigenetic regulation, affecting the structure of chromatin and gene expression across different stages of plant development and in response to environmental stresses. Although the role of HDACs in Arabidopsis and rice has been focused on in extensive research, the role of the HDAC gene family in various medicinal plants remains unclear. In the genome of the balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus), we identified 10 putative P. grandiflorus HDAC (PlgHDAC) proteins, which were classified into the three families (RPD3/HDA1, SIR2, and HD2 HDAC families) based on their domain compositions. These HDACs were predicted to be localized in various cellular compartments, indicating that they have diverse functions. In addition, the tissue-specific expression profiles of PlgHDACs differed across different plant tissues, indicating that they are involved in various developmental processes. Furthermore, the expression levels of all PlgHDACs were upregulated in leaves after waterlogging treatment, implying their potential role in coping with waterlogging-induced stress. Overall, our findings provide a comprehensive foundation for further research into the epigenetic regulation of PlgHDACs, and particularly, on their functions in response to environmental stresses such as waterlogging. Understanding the roles of these HDACs in the development and stress responses of balloon flower could have significant implications for improving crop yield and the quality of this important medicinal plant.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of a Fogarty arterial embolectomy catheter (Fogarty catheter) in intraoperative balloon angioplasty of the cephalic vein, in order to determine its effect on the patency of arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) created for hemodialysis access. Methods: A total of 156 patients who underwent creation of an AVF were divided into two groups, based whether a Fogarty catheter was used during AVF creation. Group A (89 patients) comprised the patients who underwent balloon angioplasty with a Fogarty catheter during the operation. Group B (67 patients) included the patients in whom a Fogarty catheter was not used during the operation. Patient records were reviewed retrospectively and documented. The patency rate was determined by the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The records of 156 patients who underwent the creation of an AVF from January 2007 to October 2011 were included. The mean follow-up duration was $40.2{\pm}19.4$ months (range, 1 to 97 months). The patency rates in group A at 12, 36, and 72 months were $83.9%{\pm}3.9%$, $78.3%{\pm}4.6%$, and $76.3%{\pm}4.9%$, respectively, while the corresponding patency rates in group B were $92.5%{\pm}3.2%$, $82.8%{\pm}0.5%$, and $79.9%{\pm}5.7%$, respectively. The patency rates in group B were found to be slightly higher than those in group A, but the difference was not statistically significant (p=0.356). Conclusion: Intraoperative balloon angioplasty of the cephalic vein using the Fogarty catheter is a simple and easily reproducible procedure, and it can be helpful in increasing AVF patency in cases of insufficient runoff or a suboptimal cephalic vein.

  • Koh Chang Island is located near the east border of Thailand. The government of Thailand promotes the island as a model of eco-tourism spots. The Island undeveloped until recent years, is expected to change to major tourist attraction. 'Digital Koh Chang project' has thus. The main objective of this project is to monitor the environment and land use status of the island and to support its sound development. In March 2003, a field survey of this project was planned and field data were collected using both airborne and ground platforms and an ocean vessel. These data were combined with satellite data in the laboratory. This presentation is all balloon-born system field operation. A 5-meter length balloon filled with Helium gas was used, whose payload consisted of two RGB standard color digital still cameras, two directional rotating servo motors, a camera mount cradle as well as signal transmitting and receiving components. A series of aerial high-resolution digital images were rather easily obtained using this inexpensive system, making it possible to monitor intended landscape features in a specific field. Design of simple, low-cost and easily transportable flying platforms and local field surveys using them are useful for getting local ground truth data to calibrate satellite or airborne-based RS data. The design analysis to upgrade the system is further investigated.

  • This study compares two analogical models employed in the instruction of cosmic expansion to assess their impact on the comprehension of middle and high school students. Among the most frequently used models, the balloon model, in which the surface of a balloon represents the Universe, and the bread model, in which the bread itself symbolizes the Universe, were chosen. Using the balloon model, students are required to conceptualize the 2-dimensional surface as representing a higher-dimensional space. Using the bread model, students need to visualize the Universe as the interior of the bread prior to slicing it. For middle school students who had not yet studied cosmic expansion, the balloon model proved more effective in conveying the fundamental scientific concept that the expanding Universe has no center. High school students, who were already familiar with the concept of expansion without a center from previous lessons, found it easier to map the analogy onto the target using the bread model. Based on these results, we conclude that employing multiple models is necessary to complement any single analogy, given its inherent limitations.

  • Background and Objectives: Arterial dissection during endovascular therapy rarely occurs but can be lethal. A fabric-based covered graft stents yield poor clinical outcomes. A novel balloon-expandable stent with biodegradable film graft for overcoming these issues was evaluated in a rabbit iliac artery model. Method: Eighteen rabbits with iliac artery dissections were induced by balloon over-inflation on angiography (Ellis type 2 or 3) and treated using the test device (3.0×24 mm). Subsequently, survived twelve animals underwent histologic examinations and micro-computed tomography (CT) at 0, 2, 4, and 8 weeks and 3, 6, 9, and 12 months and angiography at one-year. Results: There were no adverse cardiovascular events during the one-year. Early-stage histologic examination revealed complete sealing of disrupted vessels by the device, exhibiting mural hematoma, peri-stent red thrombi, and dense infiltration of inflammatory cells. Mid- and long-term histologic examination showed patent stents with neointimal hyperplasia over the stents (% area stenosis: 11.8 at 2 weeks, 26.1 at 1 month, 29.7 at 3 months, 49.2 at 9 months, and 51.0 at 1 year), along with mild peri-strut inflammatory response (Grade: 1-2 at mid-term and 0-1 at long-term). The graft film became scarcely visible after six months. Both CT and angiography revealed no instances of thrombotic occlusion or in-stent restenosis (% diameter stenosis: 5.7 at 2 weeks, 12.3 at 1 month, 14.2 at 3 months, 25.1 at 9 months, and 26.6 at 1 year). Conclusions: The novel balloon-expandable stent with a biodegradable film graft demonstrates feasibility in managing severe artery dissection and preventing lethal vascular events in animal model.

  • This study deals with an experiment to measure ozone concentration in the atmosphere over the Korean Peninsula, Jeollabuk-do, using a helium balloon and analyze the change in atmospheric density based on the scale height. In the experiment, Arduino Uno was used to collect data and ozone concentration was measured using the MQ131 sensor. In addition, the BMP280 sensor was used to measure temperature and atmospheric pressure at various altitudes. The experimental results showed that the scale height of the atmosphere over the Korean Peninsula was 6,828.30 m, and the decreasing pattern of atmospheric density was confirmed based on this. In addition, by analyzing the graph of the measured ozone level, a phenomenon of a rapid decrease in the ozone level was observed between 8 km and 9 km altitude. These results can provide important information for understanding the atmospheric environment and ozone concentration changes and for environmental monitoring.
