  • The optimum design of back pressure chamber is one of the most important factors in designing scroll compressors because it has a great influence on the efficiency and other design parameters. The design process can be divided into 2 parts. One is obtaining the optimum pressure of the chamber and keeping it in constant value. The other is finding out the minimum inflow rate of medium with which back pressure chamber is filled. In this study we are focused on the first step. At first we added a simple structure that can change back pressure without reassembling compressor. It makes possible to obtaining optimum back pressure. Then we designed an equipment that the back pressure control valve assembly could be independently tested with. Spring was redesigned to decrease stiffness variation. Also sealing mechanism of back pressure control valve was improved to more effective way. As a result, it was verified that in a real mode test back pressure variation could be retained in 2.3% with discharge pressure and operating frequency varied. In addition the integrated structure of back pressure control valve is expected to contribute to effective manufacturing process.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to confirm the effectiveness of the diaphragm stretching technique as a treatment method for low back pain by evaluating maximum inspiratory pressure, maximum expiratory pressure, and changes in back mobility in patients with low back pain. Methods: Thirty-four patients with low back pain were randomly divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The diaphragm stretching technique was conducted in the experimental group, and the placebo intervention was conducted in the control group. The diaphragm stretching technique was conducted once, maintaining tension for 7 min. The placebo intervention was conducted in the same position as the diaphragm stretching technique, but with only light contact maintained without pressure. Maximum inspiratory pressure, maximum expiratory pressure, and back mobility were measured before and after the intervention, and the changes were compared and analyzed. A paired sample t-test was used to compare measurements within the group before and after the intervention. An independent t-test was used to compare the experimental and control groups. Statistical significance (α) was set at 0.05. Results: In the experimental group, maximum inspiratory pressure, maximum expiratory pressure, and back mobility increased significantly after the intervention (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the changes in all areas of the control (p > 0.05). As a result of comparative analysis of changes before and after the intervention, there were significant differences in maximum inspiratory pressure, maximum expiratory pressure, and back mobility only in the experimental group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The diaphragm stretching technique improved maximum inspiratory pressure, maximum expiratory pressure, and back mobility compared to the placebo intervention. Therefore, the diaphragm stretching technique can be recommended as a physical therapy intervention to improve pain in patients with LBP.

  • The needs for reproducing in situ neutral pressure, and for having fully saturated specimens and pore pressure measuring system for consoildation testing were examined in respect to pore pressure development. undisturbed specimens of a sensitive development. undisturbed specimens of a sensitive marine soft clay were tested in the ANTEUS consolidometer with the application of four different magnitudes of back pressure(0,5, 40 and $70lb/in^2$) in order to investigate the effect of back pressure on pore pressure development during consolidation test. The effect of back pressure on pore pressure development during consolidation is striking for back pressure up to $40lb/in^2$) but, above this value, no measurable effects of back pressure variations on pore pressure development are evidenced.

  • For hydroforming process, determination of back-up fluid pressure in chamber is one of the most essential tasks. In this paper, we present a back-up pressure estimation system which estimates the back-up pressure of hydroforming process utilizing a multi-layered neural network. The neural network learns the nonlinear relation ship between the back-up pressure and the geometric state variables of hydroforming process. The proposed method does not necessitate sophisticated analysis on hydroforming process but some geometric intuition. The experimental results show that the neural network well approximates the nonlinear relationship between the back-up pressure and the geometric state variables of hydroforming process, thus giving the good estimation of back-up pressure vs punch stroke curve.

  • Powder forging with a back pressure was investigated for production of automobile and compressor parts made of a rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy powder. Disk-shaped green compacts made of a rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy powder were hot forged, and hubs were formed by loading back pressure on their top. The influences of the back pressure and die temperatures on forgeabiliy and properties of parts made of a rapidly solidified Al-Si alloy powder were examined. This method was also applied to the production of a scroll part. The results of these studies are summarized as follows : 1. A back pressure on the hub top is very effective for consolidation and preventing crack formation in the hub. 2. When a back pressure tess than 98 MPa is applied, the forging pressure increases by the same amount of the applied back pressure. With more than 98 MPa, the forging pressure increases further due to an increased friction at the hub side. 3. Die temperatures higher than approximately 670k are needed in order to consolidate well the hub top without cracks.

  • A safety relief valve is a device that relieves excessive pressure in piping lines or tanks and maintains pressure at the appropriate pressure level for use. The (pressure in the) safety valve is directly influenced by the change in the back pressure, depending on whether the vents in the spring bonnet are vented to the atmosphere or to the outlet. The back pressure is divided into the built-up back pressure and the superimposed back pressure, and the back pressure characteristics vary according to the usage conditions. The safety valve used in this study is a Conventional Safety Relief Valve. The blowdown of the safety valve is predicted by establishing the equilibrium equation between the opening force and spring force considering the back pressure characteristics. Its reliability is secured by using CFX17.1. In addition, the safety of the safety valve trim was examined through fluid-structure interaction analysis.

  • This paper proposes an energy-aware path management scheme, so-called the TBP(Threshold based Back-Pressure) algorithm, which is designed for lifetime extension of the energy-constrained wireless sensor networks. With the goal of fair energy consumptions, we extensively utilize the available paths between the source and the sink nodes. The traffic distribution feature of the TBP algorithm operates in two scales; the local and the whole routing area. The threshold and the back-pressure signal are introduced for implementing those operations. It is noticeable that the TBP algorithm maintains the scalability by defining both the threshold and the back-pressure signal to have their meanings locally confined to one hop only. Throughout several experiments, we observe that the TBP algorithm enhances the network-wide energy distribution. which implies the extension of the network lifetime. Additionally, both the delay and the throughput outcomes show remarkable improvements. This shows that the energy-aware path control scheme holds the effects of the congestion control.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to find out how the back instability during clam exercise (CE) causes changes in pelvic rotation and hip joint abductor muscle activity, and to find out the effects with different methods of application of pressure biofeedback. Design: Comparative study using repeated measures. Methods: Each subjects performed the clam exercise (CE) without pressure biofeedback, the clam exercise with pressure biofeedback applied to the back (CE-PBU to back), and the clam exercise with pressure biofeedback applied to the side (CE-PBU to side). The amount of pelvic rotation was measured using myomotion. And the muscle activity of the muscle gluteus medius and the tensor fasciae latae was measured using EMG device. One-way repeated measures ANOVA followed by the Bonferroni post test were used to compare the EMG activity in each muscle and pelvic rotation angle during the CE, CE-PBU to back, CE-PBU to side. Results: The amounts of pelvic rotation was the lowest in CE-PBU to back (p< 0.05) and the ratio of muscle activity of the muscle gluteus / tensor fasciae latae was the highest in CE-PBU to back (p< 0.05). Conclusions: It is thought that, in order to stabilize the waist-pelvis and increase hip joint muscle strength in subjects with back instability, applying clam exercise with pressure biofeedback applied to the lower back is effective in improving waist-pelvic movements and selectively strengthening the muscle gluteus medius.
