  • In this paper, we study the energy-efficient deployment strategy for micro base station (BS) in wireless cellular systems. Firstly, we formulate a general problem pertaining to total energy consumption minimization with the requirement of area spectral efficiency (ASE). We start from an observation about the correlation between the area covered by an additional micro BS and the increment of ASE. Under such an observation, we propose an efficient greedy micro BS deployment algorithm. Simulations show that the proposed deployment algorithm can deploy micro BSs with a slight performance reduction comparing with the optimal solution.

  • Uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become a vital element in nonterrestrial networks, especially with respect to 5G communication systems and beyond. The use of UAVs in support of 4G/5G base station (uncrewed aerial vehicle base station [UAV-BS]) has proven to be a practical solution for extending cellular network services to areas where conventional infrastructures are unavailable. In this study, we introduce a UAV-BS system that utilizes a high-capacity wireless backhaul operating in millimeter-wave frequency bands. This system can achieve a maximum throughput of 1.3 Gbps while delivering data at a rate of 300 Mbps, even at distances of 10 km. We also present the details of our testbed implementation alongside the performance results obtained from field tests.

  • In this paper, the frequency sharing issue between time division duplex-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/orthogonal frequency division multiple access(TDD-OFDM/OFDMA) based systems beyond third generation(B3G) and fixed Satellite Service(FSS) earth station has been studied. The conventional advanced minimum coupling loss(A-MCL) is adopted to assess the interference from a single base station(BS) of B3G systems. The aggregated interferences from base stations and mobile stations(MS) are evaluated by applying the extended A-MCL and analysed with a cumulative density function(CDF). The minimum distances that enable a single FSS earth station to sharing the frequency with a single BS are between 4 and 53.3 km. In the case of 20 MS per sector, the BS-to-BS distance and the minimum distance between a ES and BS are 6.5 and 2.8 km, respectively.

  • In this paper, we design up-down converter for asynchronous IMT-2000 base station using W-CDMA(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) technology. This up-down converter(UDC) has AGC (Automatic Gain Control), TPTL(Transmitting Power Tracing Loop), RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indicator) function. And for the cell control of BS(Base Station), breathing, blossoming, wilting function also available. This UDC has diversity structure for better performance.

  • In this paper, we investigate the effect of cooperative and selection relaying schemes on multiuser diversity in downlink cellular systems with fixed relay stations (RSs). Each mobile station (MS) is either directly connected to a base station (BS) and/or connected to a relay station. We first derive closed-form solutions or upper-bound of the ergodic and outage capacities of four different downlink data relaying schemes: A direct scheme, a relay scheme, a selection scheme, and a cooperative scheme. The selection scheme selects the best access link between the BS and an MS. For all schemes, the capacity of the BS-RS link is assumed to be always larger than that of RS-MS link. Half-duplex channel use and repetition based relaying schemes are assumed for relaying operations. We also analyze the system capacity in a multiuser diversity environment in which a maximum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scheduler is used at a base station. The result shows that the selection scheme outperforms the other three schemes in terms of link ergodic capacity, link outage capacity, and system ergodic capacity. Furthermore, our results show that cooperative and selection diversity techniques limit the performance gain that could have been achieved by the multiuser diversity technique.

  • The Snoop in the BS (Base Station) performs a local retransmission over wired-wireless networks to recover packet loss quickly. However, when the MH (Mobile Host) leaves the reception range of the signal, the local retransmission causes performance to degrade. In this paper, we minimize the packet loss and local retransmission caused by the unreachability from BS to MH to improve network performance. To do this, we suggest to add RSS(Received Signal Strengths) flag bit in ACK packet of MH. By using this flag bit, the BS decides whether it retransmits or not to minimize packet loss. The result of the simulation by ns-2 shows a big improvement of performance in the networks.

  • This paper is about frequency allocation of LTE Base Station(BS) in the spare band which is generated by DTV transition. In the case of frequency allocation of LTE BS in adjacent band with DTV channel 51 among the spare band, the guard bands that requires for no interference between LTE and DTV system were calculated. As a result, 5.5 MHz of guard band for LTE BS and 2 MHz of guard band for DTV receiver were suggested based on interference analysis between LTE BS and DTV BS, respectively.

  • Currently Energy-Saving (ES) methods in cellular networks could be improved, as compensation method for irregular Base Station (BS) deployment is not effective, most regional ES algorithm is complex, and performance decline caused by ES action is not evaluated well. To resolve above issues, a low-complexity energy efficient BS cooperation mechanism for Long Time Evolution (LTE) networks is proposed. The mechanism firstly models the ES optimization problem with coverage, resource, power and Quality of Service (QoS) constraints. To resolve the problem with low complexity, it is decomposed into two sub-problems: BS Mode Determination (BMD) problem and User Association Optimization (UAO) problem. To resolve BMD, regional dynamic multi-stage algorithms with BS cooperation pair taking account of load and geographic topology is analyzed. And then a distributed heuristic algorithm guaranteeing user QoS is adopted to resolve UAO. The mechanism is simulated under four LTE scenarios. Comparing to other algorithms, results show that the mechanism can obtain better energy efficiency with acceptable coverage, throughput, and QoS performance.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the effects of interference from HAPS ground stations to P-MP FWA base station and to P-MP FWA terminal station using more detail parameters such as a new interference model, a realistic HAPS scenario, practical antenna patterns for both the HAPS system and FWA systems. The analysis results show that, in the case of interference from HAPS GSs into a P-MP BS, compatibility of the two systems can be obtained by using a sectored BS antenna with the boresight directed away from the nadir. However, in the case of interference from HAPS GSs into a P-MP TS, the two systems cannot operate effectively in the same band unless the separation distance is guranteed and/or some form of interference mitigation technique is employed such as dynamic channel allocation.

  • In the paper, the researcher has proposed to install a relay between Base Station (BS) and Mobile Station (MS) to improve receiving performance of the downlink transmission method of Long Term Evolution (LTE) system whose standards now being established by 3GPP. By setting the distance between the location of BS and the relay installed as by 500m, 1000m, and selecting OFDMA and SC-FDMA as transmission method, the researcher conducted a study to improve the receiving performance of LTE. The results from study revealed that when the location of Relay Station (RS) was closer to BS, it was better to use OFDMA at BS, and SC-FDMA at RS. On the contrary, when the distance between BS and RS was farther, it was better to use SC-FDMA at BS, and OFDMA at RS. In addition, around the center zone between the location of BS and of MS, the researcher was able to improve the receiving performance of the system by utilizing the transmission method suitable for the situation in that area.
