Imaging Anatomy of Waldeyer's Ring and PET/CT and MRI Findings of Oropharyngeal Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma

  • Background: This study was conducted to analyze positron emission tomography (PET) / computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performance with oropharyngeal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (ONHL).Materials and Methods: The complete image data of 30 ONHL cases were analyzed, all patients were performed PET / CT and MRI examination before the treatment, with the time interval of these two inspections not exceeding 14 days. The distribution, morphology, MRI signal characteristics, enhancement feature, standardized uptake value (SUV) max value and lymph node metastasis way of the lesions were analyzed. Results: Among the 30 cases, 23 cases were derived from the B-cell (76.7%), 5 cases were derived from the peripheral T cells (16.7%) and 2 cases were derived from the NK/T cells (6.7%). 19 cases exhibited the palatine tonsil involvement (63.3%). As for the lesion appearance, 10 cases appeared as mass, 8 cases were the diffused type and 12 cases were the mixed type. 25 cases exhibited the SUVmax value of PET / CT primary lesions as 11 or more (83.3%). MRI showed that all patients exhibited various degrees of parapharyngeal side-compressed narrowing, but MRI still exhibited the high-signal fat, and the oropharyngeal mucosa was intact. 25 cases were associated with the neck lymph node metastasis, among who 22 cases had no necrosis in the metastatic lymph nodes, while the rest 3 cases exhibited the central necrosis in the metastatic lymph nodes. Conclusions: PET / CT and MRI have important value in diagnosing and determining the lesion extent of ONHL.

Selective Vapor-Phase Deposition of Conductive Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) Thin Films on Patterned FeCl3 Formed by Microcontact Printing

  • We demonstrate a selective vapor-phase deposition of conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) thin films on patterned $FeCl_3$. The PEDOT thin films were grown on various substrates by using the vapor-phase polymerization of ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) with $FeCl_3$ catalytic layers at 325 K. The selective deposition of the PEDOT thin films using vapor-phase polymerization was accomplished with patterned $FeCl_3$ layers as templates. Microcontact printing was done to prepare patterned $FeCl_3$ on polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) substrates. The selective vapor-phase deposition is based on the fact that the PEDOT thin films are selectively deposited only on the regions exposing $FeCl_3$ of the PET substrates, because the EDOT monomer can be polymerized only in the presence of oxidants, such as $FeCl_3$, Fe($CIO_4$), and iron(II) salts of organic acids/inorganic acids containing organic radicals.

Primary Pelvic Peritoneal Yolk Sac Tumor in the Post-Pubertal Female: a Case Report with Literature Review

  • Yolk sac tumors are rare malignant germ cell neoplasms that usually arise from the gonads. Extragonadal yolk sac tumors (EGYSTs) frequently occur in the mediastinum in post-pubertal females. EGYSTs in the pelvis are extremely rare, and to date, only thirteen cases have been reported in the English literature. Among them, the primary EGYST of the pelvic peritoneum in post-pubertal females has only been reported in ten cases. The present case describes a 26-year-old female diagnosed with primary peritoneal yolk sac tumor located in the rectouterine pouch. We report clinical and tumor imaging features, including ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance images (MRI), positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), and present a review of the literature.

애완동물 인식을 위한 하이브리드 RFID 리더 개발 (Development of Hybrid RFID Reader to Recognize Pet)

  • 애완견의 사육 수가 해마다 증대됨에 따라 발생되는 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 정부와 지자체에서는 애완견 전자신분증 제도를 도입하고 있다. 애완견의 전자신분증으로 RFID 태그가 사용되고 있다. 애완견의 신분용 RFID 태그에는 일반적으로 두 개의 주파수 (134.2 KHz, 13.56 MHz)가 사용된다. RFID 태그 내의 정보는 RFID 리더로 읽는 데, 두 주파수를 읽을 수 있는 RFID 리더는 없다. RFID 태그에 사용되는 134.2 KHz용 RFID 리더는 대부분이 수입되고 있으며, 이 리더는 RFID 태그를 인식하는 반경이 짧고, 인식 방향이 제한적이라 사용에 불편함이 있다. 애완견 관리자는 RFID 리더로 읽은 RFID 태그 내 정보를 수작업으로 전산 입력하여 애완견에 대한 이력을 조회한다. 이 과정에서 관리자의 태그 정보 입력 오차가 발생할 수 있으며, 작업 시간이 많이 소요되어 효율적인 애완견 관리가 되지 않고 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위해서 하이브리드 RFID 리더와 RFID 리더와 무선통신으로 연동되는 애완견 관리 프로그램을 개발하였다.

Synthesis and Characterization of Ir(H)(CO)(PEt3})22-C60)

  • The title complex, Ir(H)(CO)(PEt3)2(η 2-C60) (2), has been prepared by the reaction of excess C60 (4 equiv) with a tetrairidium complex Ir4(CO)8(PEt3)4 (1) in refluxing chlorobenzene in 40% yield as green crystals. Compound 2 has been characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), spectroscopic methods (mass, IR, 1H and 31P NMR), and a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The molecular structure reveals that the iridium atom of 2 is coordinated by two axial ligands of a hydrogen atom and a carbonyl group, and three equatorial ligands of two phosphorus atoms and an η 2-C60 moiety. The CV study exhibits three reversible one-electron redox waves for the successive reductions of 2, together with additional four redox waves due to free C60 reductions, which was formed by decomposition of 2 in the reduced states. The three reversible redox waves of 2 are shifted to more negative potentials by ca. 270 mV compared to free C60, reflecting both metal-to-C60 π-back-donation and the electron-donating nature of the two phosphorus ligands.

롤투롤 스퍼터를 이용하여 PET 기판 위에 제조된 ITO 박막의 색도(b*) 및 투과도 연구 (Chromaticity (b*) and Transmittance of ITO Thin Films Deposited on PET Substrate by Using Roll-to-Roll Sputter System)

  • Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) thin films on Polyethylene Terephtalate (PET) substrate were prepared by Roll-to-Roll sputter system with targets of 5 wt% and 10 wt% $SnO_2$ at room temperature. The influence of the chromaticity (b*) and transmittance properties of the ITO Films were investigated. The ITO thin films were deposited as a function of the DC power, rolling speed, and Ar/$O_2$ gas flow ratio, and then characterized by spectrophotometer. Their crystallinity and surface resistance were also analyzed by X-ray diffractometer and 4-point probe. As a result, the chromaticity (b*) and transmittance of the ITO films were broadly dependent on the thickness, which was controlled by the rolling speed. When the ITO films were prepared with the DC power of 300 W and the Ar/$O_2$ gas flow ratio of 30/1 sccm using 10 wt% $SnO_2$ target as a function of the rolling speeds 0.01 through 0.10 m/min, its chromaticity (b*) and transmittance were about -4.01 to 11.28 and 75.76 to 86.60%, respectively. In addition, when the ITO films were deposited with the DC power of 400W and the Ar/$O_2$ gas flow ratio of 30/2 sccm used in 5 wt% $SnO_2$ target, its chromaticity (b*) and transmittance were about -2.98 to 14.22 and 74.29 to 88.52%, respectively.

애완학습곤충 소비자의 행동 모니터링 (Website Monitoring on the Behavior of Consumers for Educational Pet Insects)

  • 본 연구에서는 점차 확대되고 있는 애완학습곤충 시장을 올바르게 이해하고 적절한 대응을 하기 위해 실제 소비자들의 이용행태를 모니터링 함으로써 소비자의 욕구를 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 곤충 관련 박물관, 체험관, 곤충농장 등을 방문한 적이 있거나 곤충을 구매한 경험이 있는 소비자가 자신의 블로그에 올린 게시물들을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였으며, 게시물의 사진 및 텍스트를 중심으로 내용분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 애완학습곤충 시장은 자녀의 교육목적을 위한 초등학교 저학년 이하의 자녀를 동반한 가족형 방문형태인 것으로 나타났다. 방문 목적지는 주로 서울, 경기의 수도권에 집중되어있으며, 자녀의 방학기간을 이용한 방문이 가장 많았다. 사진 분석 결과 체험활동에 대한 높은 관심도를 확인할 수 있었으며, 만족한 내용도 체험거리가 많고 다양하다는 것이었기 때문에 앞으로도 직접 체험할 수 있는 다양한 형태의 수준별 체험 프로그램을 개발하여 제공해야 할 것이다. 또한 불만족한 내용은 곤충에 대한 거부감인 것으로 나타나 곤충에 대한 친근한 이미지를 형성할 수 있도록 다른 동물이나 식물과 연계한 프로그램의 개발 등 노력이 필요할 것이다. 또한 애완학습곤충 시장이 계속 성장하고 발전하기 위해서는 곤충종의 다양화 및 곤충을 활용한 체계화된 체험프로그램의 개발이 필요할 것으로 보인다.

  • Graft infections after aortic replacement are a rare, but severe complication. Because surgical removal of the infection source is essential, an accurate diagnosis is required to prevent unnecessary treatment. Both of the patients described herein were diagnosed with graft infections using dual-modality positron emission tomography-computed tomography; one patient was a false-positive, and the other was confirmed with an infection.
