Removing False Contour Artifact for Bit-depth Expansion

  • Bit-depth expansion is a process of enhancing the image quality by increasing the number of intensity levels. To solve this problem, a hybrid method is proposed, where the pixels are categorized into smooth and complex regions, and are processed using different methods. The pixels in the smooth region are reconstructed with a smooth prior, and a Bayesian estimator is used for the pixels in the complex region. The proposed method effectively removes the false contour artifacts while requiring less computation than conventional methods. In addition, the method shows good quantitative performance, and the PSNR gains over the best existing method are 1.45 dB and 0.26 dB for 4 bits and 3 bits expansion cases, respectively.

Non-Linear dynamic pulse buckling of laminated composite curved panels

  • In this paper, non-linear dynamic buckling behaviour of laminated composite curved panels subjected to dynamic in-plane axial compressive loads is studied using finite element methods. The work is carried out using the finite element software ABAQUS. The curved panels are modelled with S4R element and the nonlinear dynamic equilibrium equations are solved using the ABAQUS/Explicit algorithm. The effect of aspect ratio, radius of curvature and thickness are studied. The importance of orientation of plies in the direction of loading is also reiterated in this study. Vol'mir's criterion is used to calculate the dynamic buckling loads. The panels are subjected to rectangular pulse load of various amplitude and durations and the responses are observed. For particular loading amplitude, a critical value of loading duration is observed beyond which the variation of dynamic buckling load is insignificant. It is also observed that, the value of dynamic bucking load reduces as the loading duration is increased though the reduction is not much after a particular loading duration.

A person detection in HEVC bitstream domain based on bits density feature and YOLOv3 framework

  • This paper proposes an algorithm to detect persons in bitstream domain by skipping a reconstruction picture process in HEVC decoding. A new 3-channel feature extraction map is introduced in this paper by modelling the relationship between bits per CU density, average PU shape in CU, and total transform coefficients in CU from syntax elements. A state-of-the-art of YOLOv3 detection algorithm is used to detect and localize person on extracted feature maps. Based on the experimental results, the proposed person detection framework can achieve mAP of 0.68 and be able to find persons on feature maps. In addition, the proposed person detection can save decoding time about 60% by removing reconstruction picture process.

  • In this paper the voltage controlled GIC is classified into two structures, one has the dependent port conductance and the other has the independent port conductance. Nine kinds of configuration for the WDF with two voltage controlled GICs have been found and the design method for WD-LPF has been shown as an example. Their hardware complexity and amplitude characteristics are nearly same as the existing ones, but amplitude error according to coefficient quantization is reduced to about 5% of the error in existing structures. As the result of the numerical analysis of the RPSD to check up the product quantization effect at the WDF output, four kinds of proposed structures have about 10dB less RPSD than existed ones for 6 bits .leq.B .leq.20 bits.

  • This paper proposes context-based coding methods for variable length coding of inter-frame DCT coefficients. The proposed methods classify run-level symbols depending on the preceding coefficients. No extra overhead needs to be transmitted, since the information of the previously transmitted coefficients is used for classification. Two entropy coding methods, arithmetic coding and Huffman coding, are used for the proposed context-based coding. For Huffman coding, there is no complexity increase from the current standards by using the existing inter/intra VLC tables. Experimental results show that the proposed methods give ~ 19% bits gain and ~ 0.8 dB PSNR improvement for adaptive inter/intra VLC table selection, and ~ 37% bits gain and ~ 2.7dB PSNR improvement for arithmetic coding over the current standards, MPEG-4 and H.263. Also, the proposed methods obtain larger gain for small quantizaton parameters and the sequences with fast and complex motion. Therefore, for high quality video coding, the proposed methods have more advantage.

  • 광 기록 채널을 위한 간단한 6-ary(3, 10) runlength-limited(RLL) code를 연구하였다. 이 제안하는 코드는 6개의 state로 나타낼 수 있어 look-up table의 크기를 작게 할 수 있다. 또한 coding density가 $3.33bits/T_{min}$ 이며 96.6%의 code efficiency를 나타내었다.

  • This paper describes a new algorithm for encoding spectral envelope in the time domain alias cancellation (TDAC) part of G.729.1. The spectral envelope and modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) coefficients of the weighted code-excited linear predictive (CELP) coding error in lower-band and the higher-band input signal are encoded in the TDAC part. In order to reduce allocation bits for spectral envelope coding, a new algorithm using sub-band correlation between adjacent frames is proposed. In addition, to improve the quality of decoded signals, two bit allocation strategies using reduced bits from the proposed algorithm are proposed. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated in terms of objective quality and bit reduction rates. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm increases the quality of sounds significantly.

  • 본 논문에서는 동역학계를 해석하는 방법들 중의 한가지인 다차원 셀룰라 오토마타에 기초한 난수열 발생 시스템을 제안하였다. 제안된 난수열 발생 시스템은 키의 사용이 요구되는 경우와 요구되지 않는 경우에 모두 적용이 가능하도록 구성되었으며, 키를 사용하는 경우 키의 크기는 128bits에서 256bits까지 가변적으로 사용할 수 있게 구성되었다. 제안된 난수열 발생 시스템의 수행속도는 Pentium MMX 200MHz (64M RAM, Windows 98) 환경에서 약 280Mbits/sec로 측정되었다.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel modulation that combines the spatial modulation (SM) with the subcarrier intensity-modulation (SIM) for optical wireless communications. The performance of SIM-SM scheme is compared to a conventional SIM by computer simulation. For the spectral efficiency (SE) of 2bits/s/Hz, the performance gain about 2dB is achieved. As the SE increases to 3bit or 4bits/s/Hz, the Eb/N0 gain becomes about 5dB. It is shown the attenuation for the SIM is more serious than the SIM-SM according to increasing the number of the subcarriers.

  • 본 논문에서는 합산 수열 발생기에 기초한 새로운 PingPong-128(PP-128) 키수열 발생기를 제안한다. 제안된 PingPong-128은 PingPong 계열로 제시된 특수한 암호이며, 128비트 키와 128비트 초기 벡터 그리고 258 비트의 내부 상태를 갖으며, 128 비트의 비도 수준을 유지한다. PingPong-128에 대하여 합산 수열발생기와 클럭 조절형 키 수열 발생기에 대한 알려진 공격에 대한 암호 분석을 실시하였다.
