Economic application of structural health monitoring and internet of things in efficiency of building information modeling

  • One of the powerful data management tools is Building Information Modeling (BIM) which operates through obtaining, recalling, sharing, sorting and sorting data and supplying a digital environment of them. Employing SHM, a BIM in monitoring systems, would be an efficient method to address their data management problems and consequently optimize the economic aspects of buildings. The recording of SHM data is an effective way for engineers, facility managers and owners which make the BIM dynamic through the provision of updated information regarding the occurring state and health of different sections of the building. On the other hand, digital transformation is a continuous challenge in construction. In a cloud-based BIM platform, environmental and localization data are integrated which shape the Internet-of-Things (IoT) method. In order to improve work productivity, living comfort, and entertainment, the IoT has been growingly utilized in several products (such as wearables, smart homes). However, investigations confronting the integration of these two technologies (BIM and IoT) remain inadequate and solely focus upon the automatic transmission of sensor information to BIM models. Therefore, in this composition, the use of BIM based on SHM and IOT is reviewed and the economic application is considered.

BIM지침의 통합관리를 위한 구조화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of Framework Based BIM Guideline System)

  • As various contractors have been asking BIM data in the construction industry, BIM guidelines and standards has become increasingly important these days. Above all, BIM guidelines should be established properly because it is utilized at the earliest stage of BIM data creation. However, each of the existing BIM guidelines was totally different by contractors, disciplines or phases so that it caused problems about repetitious work, inefficient management and so on. In order to overcome these problems, we suggest integrated management system for BIM guidelines. We firstly collected and analyzed existing guidelines, secondly standardized guideline phrases and lastly constructed data structure of integrated management system. This integrated management system is expected to increase work efficiency to avoid working error for designers and enable easy creation or revision of BIM guidelines for contractors.

The Development of a Haptic Interface for Interacting with BIM Elements in Mixed Reality

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) is widely used to efficiently share, utilize and manage information generated in every phase of a construction project. Recently, mixed reality (MR) technologies have been introduced to more effectively utilize BIM elements. This study deals with the haptic interactions between humans and BIM elements in MR to improve BIM usability. As the first step in interacting with virtual objects in mixed reality, we challenged moving a virtual object to the desired location using finger-pointing. This paper presents the procedure of developing a haptic interface system where users can interact with a BIM object to move it to the desired location in MR. The interface system consists of an MR-based head-mounted display (HMD) and a mobile application developed using Unity 3D. This study defined two segments to compute the scale factor and rotation angle of the virtual object to be moved. As a result of testing a cuboid, the user can successfully move it to the desired location. The developed MR-based haptic interface can be used for aligning BIM elements overlaid in the real world at the construction site.

Information Requirements for Model-based Monitoring of Construction via Emerging Big Visual Data and BIM

  • Documenting work-in-progress on construction sites using images captured with smartphones, point-and-shoot cameras, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has gained significant popularity among practitioners. The spatial and temporal density of these large-scale site image collections and the availability of 4D Building Information Models (BIM) provide a unique opportunity to develop BIM-driven visual analytics that can quickly and easily detect and visualize construction progress deviations. Building on these emerging sources of information this paper presents a pipeline for model-driven visual analytics of construction progress. It particularly focuses on the following key steps: 1) capturing, transferring, and storing images; 2) BIM-driven analytics to identify performance deviations, and 3) visualizations that enable root-cause assessments on performance deviations. The information requirements, and the challenges and opportunities for improvements in data collection, plan preparations, progress deviation analysis particularly under limited visibility, and transforming identified deviations into performance metrics to enable root-cause assessments are discussed using several real world case studies.

BIM 기반 MEP 설계 조율 프로세스 분석을 통한 비용 관리 시스템 개발 사례 연구 (Cost Management System for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing(MEP) Coordination Using Building Information Modeling(BIM) - A Case Study)

  • 본 연구에서는 BIM(building information modeling)을 활용한 비용 기반 MEP(mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) 조율 프로세스를 제안하였다. 제안된 프로세스는 MEP 부재간 간섭 해결뿐만 아니라 MEP 조율 과정에서 의사결정에 따른 MEP 관련 비용 변화를 정확하고, 빠르게 분석하고, 참여자와 공유할 수 있도록 해준다. 이를 위하여 MEP BIM 모델로부터 추출된 물량 정보와 비용 데이터베이스, 시간 정보를 통합했다. 제안된 프로세스의 적용성을 평가하기 위하여 국내 건설 프로젝트 현장에 적용하였다. 적용 결과, 예상 비용 대비 약 1.6%의 MEP 관련 비용을 절감했다고 분석되었다.

BIM 지원을 위한 IFC모델 호환성 검사 방법에 관한 기초 연구 (A Framework for the IFC Interoperability Test Method to Support BIM)

  • 거대해지고 복잡해진 건설프로젝트에서 건설 생애주기 동안 필요한 모든 정보를 효과적으로 관리하기 위한 BIM에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. BIM을 이용한 협업에서 정보의 교환과 공유는 이윤을 극대화할 수 있는 중요한 요소이다. IAI에서는 건설프로젝트의 모든 참여자가 사용할 수 있는 표준 파일포맷으로 STEP기반의 IFC모델을 제시하고 있고 현재 $2{\times}3$버젼이 게시되어 있어서 이를 지원하는 BIM소프트웨어에서 IFC포맷으로 내보내거나 들여올 수 있다. 하지만 실험결과 IAI로부터 IFC호환성 인증을 받은 BIM소프트웨어들이라도 IFC포맷의 파일을 내보내거나 들여올 때 정보가 손실되거나 변형되는 오류가 발생하였다. BIM소프트웨어 사용자들은 정보공유를 위해 IFC파일을 사용했을 때 자신도 모르게 에러가 발생해서 프로젝트에 큰 손실을 입을 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 호환성 검사에 대한 기존의 연구를 살펴본 후 IAI의 검사 과정을 조사하고 문제점을 도출한 후 문제점에 대한 해결방안을 제시하고자 한다.

시스템 다이내믹스 기반 한옥건축의 BIM 접목 활성화 방안 연구 (A System Dynamic for Investigating to Use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Hanok Construction)

  • 한옥 시공은 사회적 관심과 수요가 증가하고 있으나, 현장 시공 비율이 높고 시공 시 필요한 정보가 부족하다는 한계를 가지고 있다. 이에 따른 해결책으로, BIM을 한옥 시공에 접목하였을 때 부재 단위의 모델링, 유형화와 표준화, 조립 방식에 대한 정보 관리가 가능해진다. 하지만, 여전히 BIM의 한옥건축 접목을 위한 요인에 관한 분석에 관한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 한옥건축에서의 BIM의 활성화를 시뮬레이션으로 모델링하여 그 요인을 분석하고자 한다. 한옥건축 BIM 활성화 요인을 도출하고 각 인자 간 상관관계 분석을 통하여 causal loop diagram (CLD)을 작성하고 각 요인을 Parameter, Dynamic variable, Stock, Flow로 정리해 최종 모델링을 완성하였다. 주요 인자의 변화에 따른 시나리오 분석 결과, 현 지원제도 및 활성화 요인을 유지하였을 때(시나리오 1) 장기적인 관점에서 긍정적인 결과가 나왔다. 한옥의 건축지원금이 증가하였을 경우(시나리오 2), 장기적으로 약 23~24% 상승한 것으로 확인되었다. BIM의 교육비가 감소하여 전문 인력이 증가한 경우(시나리오 3)는 BIM 활성화에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있으나 시나리오 2에 비해 미미한 변화 값이 도출되었다. 도출된 각 요인 중 한옥 건축지원금이 가장 영향력 있는 변수로 판단된다. 추후 구체적인 변수를 적용하고 다른 관점에서 활성화 분석 연구를 진행하면 한옥과 BIM의 적용 활성화에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

  • A systemic building maintenance management is necessary to supply an convenience and safety environment by maintain the origin features for a building's life. However, the exist maintenance management system has some problems such as interoperability of information or standardization of data. In those reasons, a critical information for maintenance a building may be lost and changed. In addition, the data could be crashed or lost on a process of re-input or re-produce. This paper purpose the interoperability in exchanging data between design/construction and operation phases. In addition, this model will enhance the efficiency of building maintenance tasks through information quality improvement and data reproduction prevention.

  • 4D simulation integrates the 3 dimensional model of a building with the construction schedule, and it leads to the possibility of virtually checking the construction process and the building itself in advance. However, the existing problem of 4D simulation is the difference between the demands of architects, engineers, and construction site workers in 4D simulation. This study suggests the possible way to enhance the availability of 4D simulation, considering more the practical demands from the construction site. In order to conduct this study, we build a 3D BIM model of a business-residential complex and link the model with the pre-defined construction schedule in order to make a 4D simulation. This study concludes with the optimized 4D simulation methodology based on BIM model considering the demands in perspective of the construction site. It would contribute to the harmonic collaboration among architects, engineers, and labors in the construction site when using 4D simulation based on BIM model.

철도 인프라 BIM 디지털 모델의 전자납품 프로세스 및 기능 모듈 구성방안 연구 (A study on the Electronic Delivery Process and the Configuration Functional Modules of Railway Infrastructure BIM Digital Model)

  • Recently, Building Information Modeling(BIM) has become a hot topic in the construction industry such as quantity calculation, interference check, process management, and construction cost management. It is also trying to convert the existing 2D design to 3D design and introduce the BIM in various fields, thus, many new deliverable are being presented but there are many issues due to the lack of standard guides on the preparation and delivery criteria for such new deliverable and how to utilize performance data. Therefore, In order to develop the electronic delivery process, we analyzed the process related to the delivery of BIM digital models presented in domestic and international BIM guidelines and the delivery of products from the Korea National Railway. The analysis focused on the list of achievements, delivery process, quality review standards, and the utilization code system of the Korea National Railway through BIM guidelines and the National Railroad Service's business procedures. Based on these analysis results, it presents a plan to construct an functional module of electronic delivery.
