Measuring Efficiency of Korean Steel Industry Employing DEA (DEA 모형을 이용한 한국 철강 산업의 효율성 분석)

  • The steel industry plays an important role in the entire Korean Economy. However, little empirical research has analyzed the efficiency of steel companies. The purpose of this paper is to measure and analyze their efficiency using DEA models. We evaluate the CCR and BCC efficiency and the return to scale of 28 Korean steel companies. We also provide their envelopment map and the projection, which are valuable information for inefficient companies to find benchmarking companies and to improve their efficiency.

Analysis on Productivity and Efficiency of Blueberry Farming (블루베리 농가의 경영 효율성 및 생산성 분석)

  • Blueberry producers' management is failing as a result of the price decline caused by an increase in blueberry imports and the accompanying deterioration in management. Consequently, an endeavor was undertaken to verify the measurement and impact from the standpoint of efficiency and productivity of blueberry management, and to offer an indication of management improvement through analysis. Using the Rural Development Administration's income survey data, the data for twenty-four blueberry farms was analyzed. First, the management effectiveness of blueberry cultivators was evaluated. Using the CCR model (0.7297) and the BCC model (08148), the efficiency of a farm was examined. When the efficiency is one, CCR is ten and BCC is fifteen, and in overall, it was found to be ineffective, the efficiency declined from 2018 to 2019, but climbed again in 2020, according to the annual analysis. The MPI index was then used to examine productivity. T2's MPI index was 1.3338, whereas T3's MPI index was 0.8896, demonstrating a considerable decline in TC. This indicates that technological progress is not being accomplished, necessitating the need for countermeasures. In order to improve the management efficiency of blueberry producers, it is necessary to reduce costs and improve receivable prices through producer organization, and to actively introduce new technologies.

A Comparative Study on the Efficiency of Major Container Ports (세계 주요 컨테이너항만의 효율성 비교 연구)

  • This study aims to analyse efficiencies of international main container ports. For the purpose, it selected twenty main ports based on the volume of cargo of ports recorded in Containerisation International Yearbook and conducted BCC(efficiency analysis) on them. The variables which may influence efficiency of ports were selected based on previous studies. Berth, Depth, Crane and Total area were input variables and Total TEU was an output variables. The results are summarized as follows: First, DEA-CCR efficiency of Shenchen Port(China) was 1.0, which was the most efficient poor analysed. Second, DEA-BCC efficiency of Port of Singapore, Shenchen Port(China), Ningbo Port (China), Port of Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia) was 1.0, which was the most efficient analysed. Third, efficient scale of Shenchen Port(China) has been 1.0 for four subsequent years from 2004 to 2007, which was the most efficient analysed.

Relative Efficiency of Korea Trucking Transport Business Using DEA Model (DEA를 이용한 국내 화물자동차 운송업의 상대적 효율성분석)

  • Korea Trucking Transport Business is one of principal national logistics sector, though, so many issues and problems came to arises, which brought cargo transport system crisis over the country such as logistics enormous jam and traffic. This paper analyzes the efficiency of korean trucking transport business firms using DEA model. We evaluate the CCR, BCC efficiency and RTS of 30 trucking transport firms. We also suggest the trucking transport firms which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information. The result shows that seven enterprises whose values of CCR efficiency are 1, and fifteen enterprises whose values of BCC efficiency are 1. RTS indicates IRS of 16 firms, DRS of 5 firms and CRS of 9 firms.

  • In 1997, Korean government established the National Energy and Resources Plan, which targeted from 1997 to 2005 with strategic energy technology development. At the end of 2005, Korean government built a New National Energy and Resources Plan preparing for upcoming 10 years from 2006 until 2015 based on energy technology trees comparing with the previous plan, which based on the energy R&D projects. In this research, we prioritize the relative preferences and efficiency by an AHP/DEA CCR-I and BCC-I integrated model approach considering scale efficiency for well focused R&D and efficiency of developing Greenhouse Gas technologies as an extended research from a view point of econometrics as an extended research.

  • It is hard environment to get a profit without active invest due to the low interest. In this kind of environment, however, it is also difficult to find good company directly. So private investors is hard to succeed in comprehensive financial environment. Analyzing efficiency is necessary to enhance the competitive power of fund companies. This paper analyze the efficiency of fund company using DEA models. We evaluate the CCR and BCC efficiency and RTS(return to scale) of 33 Korean fund companies. We also suggest the fund company which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information.

  • This paper presents a approach to the measurement of efficiency. Data envelopment analysis(DEA), as it is called, has particular applicability in the service sector. Applying mathematical programming techniques, DEA enables relative efficiency ratings to be derived within a set of analysed units. This paper investigates the efficiency employing DAE-CCR Model and DEA-BCC Model on data for 15 container terminals covering 1998$^{\sim}$2005 in Korea Results of this paper, suggests to some plan for operation strategy in Container terminals.

Efficiency Analysis of Public Services Regarding Technical and Vocational Education and Training Using DEA : Focusing on Chungnam Province's Case (DEA를 활용한 직업능력개발 공공서비스의 효율성 분석 : 충남 지역맞춤형일자리창출지원사업을 중심으로)

  • In this research, in order to analyze the efficiency of vocational education and training public services, we analyzed 27 projects conducted in Chungcheongnamdo province in 2014 using DEA. Also we compared the efficiency of 2014 projects with 2013 projects, and verified 3 representative DMU's inefficiency to suggest how to improve the efficiency. The DEA examined the efficiency using CCR model, BCC model and SE(CCR / BCC). As a result of this analysis, the total project costs and the number of projects were increased in 2014 from 2013, but it turned out that the number of inefficient projects were increased and the overall efficiency is decreased. Therefore, in order to improve efficiency, we proposed to allocate labor costs and direct project costs appropriately. In the case of large-scale projects, it was confirmed that reducing the scale of the project is important to increase the overall efficiency. Based on this research, we are presenting a research model that analyzes the efficiency of vocational education and training, and expanding the research area of performance management into the area of various public services.

Developing a Method for Diagnosing the Banking Industry (은행산업 진단방법론 개발)

  • The globalization of the banking industry has highlighted the importance of the internal stability of the banks. For internal stability, the efficiency and productivity of the bank becomes more important, and the bank must be improved. To improve the efficiency and productivity, a methodology for analyzing the current state of the bank's needs was made based on the BCC of DEA and the Malmquist productivity index. This model was developed as a diagnostic method that can analyze the efficiency and productivity of the bank. As a result of the analysis, the position of the bank and the position of the model studied were similar. The BCC-Malmquist model can be applied to the other areas and provide a management strategy.

A DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) Approach for Evaluating the Efficiency of Exclusive Bus Routes (자료포락분석을 이용한 서울시 간선버스노선 효율성 평가)

  • This study presumes the efficiency of each route by utilizing data of Seoul's exclusive bus routes for the 2008 and the DEA model. In the estimation, it is assumed that the number of passengers and profits of each route is calculated by considering the number of buses and stops, travel distance, intervals and management cost. This study computed the efficiency scores of each bus line in Seoul based on the data for the first half of 2008 and one of the DEA models, namely the BCC model. After analysis using the input-oriented BCC model, out of a total of 18 lines of interest, there were 2 CRS lines and 16 IRS lines. Also, the Tobit Regression Analysis that helps identify the impact of the elements used in the analysis on efficiency scores proved that the most influential element to exclusive buses is the length of intervals.
