  • This paper presents an improved method of calculating the penalty factors for economic load dispatch based on B-coefficient and AC load flow and their performance comparison. The algorithm for calculating B-coefficients by Meyer is improved and its performance is compared with that of AC load flow. The B-coefficient method is superior to the load flow method in its simplicity and computation speed. However accuracy of the B-coefficient method is not satisfactory when it is applied to the ill-conditioned systems where generators produce excessive reactive power.

  • Our objective was to evaluate the CT attenuation coefficient and noise of spatial domain filtering as an alternative to additional image reconstruction using different kernels in abdominal CT. Derived from thin collimated source images was generated using abdomen B10 (very smooth), B20 (smooth), B30 (medium smooth), B40 (medium), B50 (medium sharp), B60 (sharp), B70 (very sharp) and B80 (ultra sharp) kernels. Quantitative CT coefficient and noise measurements provided comparable HU (hounsfield) units in this respect. CT attenuation coefficient (mean HU) values in the abdominal were 60.4$\sim$62.2 HU and noise (7.6$\sim$63.8 HU) in the liver parenchyma. In the stomach a mean (CT attenuation coefficient) of -2.2$\sim$0.8 HU and noise (10.1$\sim$82.4 HU) was measured. Image reconstructed with a convolution kernel led to an increase in noise, whereas the results for CT attenuation coefficient were comparable. Image medications of image sharpness and noise eliminate the need for reconstruction using different kernels in the future. CT images increase the diagnostic accuracy may be controlled by adjusting CT various kernels, which should be adjusted to take into account the kernels of the CT undergoing the examination.

  • Thermoelectric properties of p-type SiGe alloys prepared by a RF inductive furnace were investigated. Non-doped Si80Ge20 alloys were fabricated by control of the quantity of volatile Ge. The carrier of p-type SiGe alloy was controlled by B-doping. B doped p-type SiGe alloys were synthesized by melting the mixture of Ge and Si containing B. The effects of sintering/annealing conditions and compaction pressure on thermoelectric properties (electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient) were investigated. For nondoped SiGe alloys, electrical conductivity increased with increasing temperatures and Seebeck coefficient was measured negative showing a typical n-type semiconductivity. On the other hand, B-doped SiGe alloys exhibited positive Seebeck coefficient and their electrical conductivity decreased with increasing temperatures. Thermoelectric properties were more sensitive to compaction pressure than annealing time. The highest power factor obtained in this work was 8.89${\times}$10-6J/cm$.$K2$.$s for 1 at% B-doped SiGe alloy.

  • This research is about the optical characteristics of algae which is collected from Nam-Hae for basic research of red tide remote sensing technique development 21 kinds of red tide organisms were cultivated to investigate optical characteristics of them in the level of laboratory, and chlorophyll specific absorption coefficient $(a^*)$ and backscattering coefficient $(b_b^*)$ are estimated by using spectrophotometer. Absorption spectrums according to species appeared to range from 0.005 to 0.06 $(m^2/mg)$, and the shapes of spectrums were also different. The range of $b_b^*$ appeared to be $10^{-2}\sim10^{-4}m^2/mg$, which had about 100 times differences between species, and the shape of spectrum have significant difference between species. These results will input as an ocean color model input parameter from ocean color.

  • In this work, equilibrium molecular dynamics (MD) simulations in a microcanonical ensemble are performed to evaluate the friction coefficient of a Brownian particle (BP) in a Lennard-Jones (LJ) solvent. The friction coefficients are determined from the time dependent friction coefficients and the momentum autocorrelation functions of the BP with its infinite mass at various ratios of LJ size parameters of the BP and solvent, ${\sigma}_B/{\sigma}_s$. The determination of the friction coefficients from the decay rates of the momentum autocorrelation functions and from the slopes of the time dependent friction coefficients is difficult due to the fast decay rates of the correlation functions in the momentum-conserved MD simulation and due to the scaling of the slope as 1/N (N: the number of the solvent particle), respectively. On the other hand, the friction coefficient can be determined correctly from the time dependent friction coefficient by measuring the extrapolation of its long time decay to t=0 and also from the decay rate of the momentum autocorrelation function, which is obtained by time integration of the time dependent friction coefficient. It is found that while the friction coefficient increases quadratically with the ratio of ${\sigma}_B/{\sigma}_s$ for all ${\sigma}_B$, for a given ${\sigma}_s$ the friction coefficient increases linearly with ${\sigma}_B$.

  • A new absorption material, cellulose sponge soaked in cement, was made for anechoic water tank and its acoustical properties were investigated by pulse methods. The sound absorption coefficient a (dB/cm) of the material was obtained in the frequency range of 40~120kHz from the echo reduction ER (dB) and insertion loss IL (dB) data. The result was averagely 1.8dB/cm higher than the sound absorption coefficient a (dB/cm) of cork-filled rubber which is one of the most effective absorption materials. The wedge (1.2~5.0cm long) type absorption tiles were made with this new material. The echo reduction ER (dB) of the absorption tile with 5.0cm wedge measured in water tank was higher than 20dB in the experimental frequency range.

  • In most of cases, the wall friction coefficients applied for local tunnel design are quoted directly from foreign data or local design guideline. In the previous studies, the wall friction coefficient was estimated using the velocity decay method. However, it is difficult to estimate the wall friction coefficient when the convergence wind velocity in the tunnel is negative (-) or if there is a change in the natural wind. Therefore, in this study, the wall friction coefficient is estimated by applying the dynamic simulation technique in addition to the conventional the velocity decay method. As a result of the analysis, the coefficient of wall friction in the tunnels for the total of 9 tunnels (18 tubes both directions) was 0.011~0.025, and the mean value was estimated to be 0.020. In addition, the wall friction coefficient obtained quantitatively through this study was compared with the current design criteria.

  • This study is to investigate the effect of interference between two C-shaped high-rise buildings by computational fluid dynamics (CFD), focusing on the variation of the local pressure coefficient (CP) and the mean pressure coefficient (CPMEAN). Sixteen building position cases are considered for the present study. These cases were based on the position and height of the interference building (IB). The pressure coefficient (CP) is calculated on the principal building (PB) and is compared with an isolated building identical in shape and size. The interference effect on PB has also been presented in reference for the interference factor (IF). According to the findings, the maximum force coefficient on the PB is 0.971 and it is 10.97% more than the isolated PB when IB is located at position 2b (two times the width of the building), and the interfering height of 13H/15 mm. The moment coefficient on PB is 1.27, which is 27.36% less than the isolated case in which IB pushed 2b to 3b in the y direction with 750 mm height. In most of the cases, because of the shielding effect of the IB, the value of force coefficient (CF) on PB has been reduced. On the face of the PB, there are also considerable differences in the mean pressure coefficient CPMEAN. When IB was positioned at a location of 2b in Y direction and an interfering height of 13H/15 mm, the maximum CPMEAN (1.58) was observed on the leeward face of PB.
