  • Purpose: This paper presented a descriptive study which aimed to identify the relationship among menstrual attitude, premenstrual distress and premenstrual coping in Korean college women and to propose fundamental data for the development of guidelines for effective management of premenstrual distress. Methods: The data were collected from 111 college women and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The mean score of premenstrual coping was $3.25{\pm}0.60$ out of 5 points. The 'Awareness and Acceptance of Premenstrual Change' score was highest and the 'Avoiding Harm' score was lowest. Menstrual attitude was significantly related to premenstrual distress (r=.37 p<.001) and the awareness and acceptance style of premenstrual coping (r=-.21. p=.021). And premenstrual distress was significantly related to the self-care coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.30, p=.001), the adjusting energy coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.45, p<.001) and the avoiding harm coping style of premenstrual coping (r=.48, p<.001). Conclusion: Results of this study support that positive attitude about menstruation is necessary for the effective management of premenstrual distress. Also, premenstrual coping programs that consider the level of premenstrual distress will be needed for college women.

  • This study was carried out to investigate awareness and attitude of monitors in 206 small sized industries in Seoul and Kyeonggi area toward the occupational health programs using a specially prepared questionnaire. The industries had been running Government-Funded Subsidiary Program since 1998. The questionnaire was designed to be self-administered by respondents. Data were collected for two months from November to December, 1998. Major results are as follows: 1. Between two groups of industries, there were no significant differences in classification, scale, methods of production, existence of trade union, but in type of working pattern and facility ownership there were significant differences. 2. Between two groups of monitors, there were no significant differences in gender, age, marital status, rank, years of education, but in duration of working there was a significant difference. 3. In awareness and attitude of monitors toward their activities and occupational health programs, there was no significant difference by groups of industries, but a significant difference by type and scale of industry, gender, age, years of education 4. It was found that newly subsidized industries were more necessary to provide education programs on occupational health than old industries, and there was a significant difference between two groups of industries in the contents of education needed. In conclusion, it is desirable that the government should develop specific training programs for monitors on occupational health to provide them practical knowledge and specific skills which monitors can apply to their specific situation, and implement the training programs and continue Government-Funded Subsidiary Program for years until small scale industries would have been able to develop and keep their own health management system spontaneously.

  • Purpose: This descriptive study investigated the relationship between death awareness and life ethics awareness, according to life stress, among students in the department of paramedics. Methods: General characteristics were identified using means and frequency, and the differences between the two military models were analyzed using the χ2-test and t-test by dividing them into lower and higher groups based on the mean life stress score (99.76 points). Results: Those with high life stress had higher death awareness than those with low life stress at 114.11 points. In contrast, those with low life ethics experienced more severe life stress with a score of 145.61 points (t=-2.609, p=.010)(t=-2.953, p=.003). The death recognition attitude and bioethics according to the degree of living stress-showed a significant correlation between the low and high groups (r=.188, p=.043) (r=.201, p=.042). Conclusion: Paramedic students require education on how to cope with life stress. However, access to education is limited to people living in modern times. As a potential solution to this problem, observing videos on the Internet is recommended. Moreover, we suggest accessing Internet and smart phone applications for advertising/educational purposes.

The instruction using the ARCS model was verified to improve interest in culture, understanding of others from other cultures, motivation to create culture, perception of importance of culture, and perception of necessity of culture education. But the traditional lecture instruction did not show statistically meaningful effects on cultural interest, awareness and attitude.

  • The totality of language learning comprises three integrated components: linguistic, cultural, and attitudinal (Wilkes, 1983).Positively sensitizing students to cultural phenomena is urgent and crucial. A positive attitude toward L2 culture is a factor in language learning that leads to cross cultural understanding. This research examined, through a survey analysis, how three groups of students (one high school group and two university student groups) viewed the role of their foreign culture (i.e., American and British cultures) in achieving cultural understanding. The focus was upon how EFL learners approach the target language culture as well as their own culture.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate factors affecting handwashing practice among elementary school students by assessing the perception of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) and characteristics related to knowledge, attitude, and practice of handwashing. Methods: The cross-sectional study design and an online self-reported survey were used in this study. The subjects were 211 elementary students at a school located in G province, Korea. Data were collected from January 4 to 8, 2021. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0. Results: Mean scores for knowledge, attitude, and practice of handwashing were 17.09 (out of 20), 21.15 (out of 24), and 27.51 (out of 33), respectively. There were significant positive correlations between the perception of COVID-19 and knowledge of handwashing (r=.23, p=.001), between knowledge and attitude toward handwashing (r=.45, p<.001), between knowledge and practice of handwashing (r=.18, p=.010), and between attitude and practice of handwashing (r=.28, p<.001). The factors influencing handwashing practice were handwashing frequency at home (β=.39, p<.001), handwashing frequency at school (β=.18, p=.006), and attitude toward handwashing (β=.15, p=.026), which explained 34.2% of the variance. Conclusion: These results suggest a need to raise awareness of the importance of handwashing and develop an education program for infectious disease prevention.
