  • CNS/ATM(Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management) was adopted as a standard navigation system of 21st century. Therefore, ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization) members are developing the technology and infrastructure of CNS/ATM. ADS-B(Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) system and Multilateration system are being implemented in the surveillance field of CNS/ATM. Multilateration system is installed in order to complement radar system and to surveil blind areas. Also, Multilateration system using TDOA(Time Difference Of Arrival) is more accurate than radar. In this paper, we applied an IMM(Interacting Multiple Model) filter which is widely used in radar systems to the Multilateration data in order to improve the reliability of the Multilateration data. Comparisons with the original Multilateration data and the Multilateration data with the IMM filter show that the ADS-B data with the IMM filter provides a better performance: 38.37% near the airport, 20.86% around 10 miles of the airport.

  • In this paper, we have chosen KimPo International Airport as an area for estimating the flutter interference, in order to analyze the flutter interference. The field test at 25 points around KimPo International Airport and the simulation have been performed for estimating the flutter interference. We consider the received power of a direct wave, the height of an antenna, the ERP of a transmitting point, transmit frequency, and the reflection coefficients of an airplane, the transmit/receive point coordinates as estimation functions for the flutter. From the results, we have found that the flutter interference from flights is very serious around the route of flight circumference, and often occurs when the height of an airplane is low, range from 40 to 240 m. Besides, the degree of the flutter interference can be changed according to the distance between an airplane and a transmitting point, elevation angle, and the reflection coefficients of an airplane.

  • Objective: This paper discusses the recent challenges to human factors engineering due to the safety culture. Background: As incidents occurring in specific fields such as logistics, plant, energy and medical sectors in Korea, as well as in the public sectors including railway, road, aviation and shipping, are recently raised as social issues from the disaster dimension, those incidents are dealt with as man-made disasters in many cases. The trend regarding all accidents as man-made disasters has been expanded in the active perspective that the controllability of all incidents should be ensured in technology development, due to change from a fatal point of view regarding disasters as random occurrence of uncertainties in the past. Method: Man-made disasters are concluded as human errors, and safety culture stands out as a cause of human errors or a new cause item recently. Because safety culture, however, is a very comprehensive term, of which true nature is obscure, although many definitions of safety culture have been presented, the safety culture may make avoid the true nature and responsibility of an incident, or make the main player and subject obscure. Raising safety culture as a cause without presenting a specific countermeasure will be just a wisdom of hindsight. Results and Conclusion: This study reviews the fundamental discussions on "Is safety culture a task of human factors engineering?" and the existing approach carried out from various perspectives in order to seek an effective approach on the new task of safety culture in the human factors engineering field. This study discusses an engineering approach to meet a precondition that safety culture is not just an added factor through a review of the approaches in the proactive fields such as nuclear power and aviation, and the traditional approaches of human factors engineering. Application: This study especially defines the perspective of socio-technological system that has expanded the existing man-machine system, and discusses a systemic approach embracing various interactions, and several overriding tasks.

  • In the present paper, a flap was optimized to maximize the lift. A 2-element fowler flap system was utilized for optimization with an initial shape of general aviation airfoil and a flap shape designed by Wentz. Response surface method and Hicks-Henne shape function were implemented for optimization. 2-D Navier-Stokes method was used to solve flow field around aGA(W)-1 airfoil with a fowler flap. Commercial programs including Visual-Doc, Gambit/Tgridand Fluent were used. Upper surface shape and the flap gap were optimized and lift for landing condition was improved considerably. The original and optimized flaps were tested in the KARI's 1-m low speed wind tunnel to examine changes in aerodynamic characteristics. For optimized flap tests, the similar trend to prediction could be seen but stall angle of attack was lower than what was expected. Also, less gap than optimized design delayed stall and produced better lift characteristics. This is believed to be the effect of turbulence model.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology that can measure the combat effectiveness of attack helicopter which Korea army will be operating in the near future. To measure the combat effectiveness, firstly, we use a wargame model, AAsim (Army Aviation simulation), as a analytic simulation model which is used to analyze DOTMLPF and operation in army aviation field, secondly we use an Analytic Hierarchy Process by opinion of experts. For simulation and AHP, we consider anti armored corps operation reflecting attack helicopter's combat effectiveness. As a result of this study, the combat effectiveness per each attack helicopter can be measured and this combat effectiveness is useful for reasonable decision making such as selection helicopter type, quantity when acquiring new weapon system.

  • The education system is the communication field should be based on the characteristics of communication science and the function of manpower. However, the current education system at the level of college is insufficient and irrational to meet the requirements of the telecommunication field in our country. The main reasons are as follows: 1. Misunderstanding the characteristics of communication science. 2. Indiscretion of the categories of communication manpower due to lack of coordination between academic circles and communication industrial field. Telecommunication function could be performed only by combining the engineering and the suitable operational control. The communication engineering is similar to the electronic engineering, but the former should follow the miscellaneous international protocol and the domestic regulations, being only a means for the telecommunication function. In order to improve the education system of communiation, we aim to identify the principle of communication science, orthodoxy of the education, the categories of communication industrial field and manpower. The present system has been formed on the basis of ignoring the attributes of manpower and historical background of communication science. Therefore, this paper proposes to set up new departmental organizations for educating communication manpower as the following: In addition, this paper proposes a new curriculum model of the above twodept, and we believe that it well turn out more scientific, effective and reasonable education for the communication science. 1. Modification of the present formation, designated Electronic Communication Department. 2. New formation model: A. The best future model such as establishing ad independent telecommunication college which is composed of : Dept. of Radiocommunication Dept. of Telecommunication Enginnering Dept. of Communication Industrial management Dept. of Transmission Engineering Dept. of Telecommunication Law B. An immediately practicable proposal model instead of the existin Dept.. which is composed of the first two Dept. of the above five Dept. In addition, this paper proposes a new curriculum model of the above two dept. and we believe that it will turn out the education for the communication science to be more scientific, effective and reasonable.

  • In this paper, we aimed to identify the insulation characteristics and reliability of Epoxy composites, which are widely used as insulation material for electrical & electronic components and electric appliance. To this end, it was necessary to predict variations of electric field due to the distribution of fillers that must be added by economic and mechanical factors. So, we verified the result using an electric field analysis Simulator. Furthermore, under the condtion of DC voltage application, an dielectirc breakdown test was performed according to ambient temperature changes and the distribution of fillers, and the changes were observed. Three types of specimens were manufactured by adding 0, 50 and 100[phr] filling to Epoxy resin. In all specimens, as temperature was increased, the strength of the dielectric strength was decreased. When comparing the simulation results with the actual dielectric breakdown test results, we was able to confirm the technical applicability required for Insulation design of electric appliance.

  • In this paper, a new 'presumed' Probability Density Function (PDF) approach coupled with a Lagrangian tracking method is proposed for turbulent combustion modeling. The test and the investigation of the model are conducted by comparing the model results with DNS data for a premixed flame subjected in a decaying turbulent field. The newly constructed PDF, which incorporates the instantaneous chemical reaction term, demonstrates consistent improvement over conventional assumed PDF models. It has been found that the time evolution of the mean scalar, the variance and the mean reaction rate are strongly influenced by a parameter deduced by a Lagrangian equation which takes into account explicitly the local reaction rate. Tests have been performed for a moderate Damkohler number, and it is expected the model may cover a broader range of Damkohler number. The comparison with the DNS data demonstrates that the proposed model may be promising and affordable for implementation in a moment-equation solver.

  • An air traffic control organization will require knowledge management to keep competitive advantage. A traffic controllers are forced to share their tacit as well as explicit knowledge among their organization to get aircraft's safety and efficient operation. The purpose of this study is to examine which factors influence the air traffic controllers' intention of sharing knowledge for the case of Civil Aviation Safety Authority, Ministry of Construction and Transportation. An ANOVA analysis shows that a difference exists between ages in terms of open mindedness towards sharing knowledge, the search for new knowledge and the recognition of the importance of sharing knowledge.
