  • Dorsal aorta cannulated rainbow trout averaging 505 $\pm$ 6.5g (Mean $\pm$ SD) were divided into 7 groups (5 fish per group). Twenty four hour post feeding, cannulated fish were intubated with one of seven L-amino acid diets containing graded levels of Valine (Val. : 0.45, 0.95, 1.20, 1.45, 1.70, 1.95 or 2.45%) at 1% of body weight. Blood samples were taken at 0, 5 and 24hr after feeding the experimental diets. Post-prandial (5h after feeding) plasma-free Valine concentrations (PPval.) increased linearly from fish fed diets containing Valine between 0.45 and 1.45%, but the concentration remained constant from fish fed diets containing valine between 1.45 and 2.45%. Post-absorptive (24h after feeding) plasma free valine concentrations (PAval) increased linearly from fish fed diets containing valine between 0.45 and 1.45%, but the concentration remained constant from fish fed diets containing valine between 1.45 and 1.95%. Using the broken-line model analysis, the dietary valine requirement by PPval and PAval could be 1.44 and 1.50% in rainbow trout, respectively. These results supported that the estimated dietary valine requirement by PP(val.) and PA(val.) could be in close agreement with the values obtained from the previous conventional feeding method. Thus, the use of PFAA concentrations for determining essential amino acid requirements could be possible in rainbow trout with dorsal aorta cannulation.

  • In ocean acoustic tomography (OAT), the pulse compression techniques using M-sequences are employed in the many studies for investigating the ocean structures. M-sequences can provide the good time and Doppler resolution in the process of demodulation using matched-filter. The signal-to-noise (SNR) performance at the output of receiver may be improved by manipulating received signal, i. e. coherently averaging. The processing time can be significantly reduced by using fast hadarmard transform (FHT) or fast Fourier transform (FFT). In this paper, we estimate the multipath arrival structures and delay times using the East Korean Sea experiment data and explore the compensation method for the detrimental effects on performance due to sampling rate error. We also analyze the characteristics of the ocean acoustic channels through scattering function, delay power profile, and time dispersions.

  • The tangential electric polarizability of a electrically small square patch, which is commonly used in metasurfaces, is calculated using electric potential continuity. Since the potential at the patch surface is not uniform due to the equivalent electric dipole located at the center, there is a problem in that the polarizability is not uniquely defined. To obtain equivalent polarizability, the meshes in the analysis area are divided on the patch surface, and the equivalent polarizability is calculated by averaging the polarizabilities obtained at each point. The results of the proposed method, third-power series approximation, and experimental equations are compared and verified. Finally, the magnitude and phase of the reflection coefficient of patch metasurface calculated by generalized sheet transition conditions(GSTCs) are in good agreement with the HFSS simulation results.

  • Objective: This study was designed to investigate the correlation between gastric emptying measurement by ultrasonography and the findings of various questionnaires of functional dyspepsia (FD) or in Korean medicine to explore the possibility of quantification of questionnaires. Methods: Eighty-eight patients (44 patients with FD and 44 healthy controls) were recruited from October 2016 to November 2017. Gastric emptying half-time (T1/2) was measured by ultrasonography at fasting, and at 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min after meals (apple juice, 500 ml, 224 kcal). The average half-time (average T1/2) was calculated by averaging all measured half-times. A visual analogue scale (VAS), food retention questionnaire (FRQ), damum questionnaire (DQ), cold and heat questionnaire (CHQ), deficiency and excess questionnaire (DEQ), spleen-qi deficiency questionnaire (SQDQ), Nepean dyspepsia index-Korean version (NDI-K), and quality of life of NDI (NDI-QoL) were filled out by all participants. Correlation between the average T1/2 and questionnaires were analyzed for 79 patients (37 patients with FD and 42 healthy controls) after excluding missing and erroneous data. Results: The FRQ, DEQ, SQDQ, NDI-K, and NDI-QoL scores, especially for some gastrointestinal symptoms and general weakness-related symptoms, showed statistically significant correlations with average T1/2. Conclusions: Our results suggest that gastric emptying measurement by ultrasonography may be a quantitative substitute method for some Korean medical questionnaires or for some dyspepsia-related and deficiency-related items among them. However, further studies using various measurements of gastric emptying will be needed.

  • This paper describes an effort to develop a microcomputer-based parameter identification system for three phase and two phase brushless DC motor. Back EMF equation is derived from back EMF waveform of three phase and two phase brushless DC motor. In this paper, a new identification algorithm for the brushless DC motor parameters by Pasek's technique is developed. It is found that Pasek's equation is valid for the brushless DC motor, too. The results obtained clearly shows that it is possible to implement the identification system for the determination of the brushless DC motor parameters. To minimize errors due to the ripple component in the measured armature current, digital averaging firis employed. The whole identification process of signal generation, measuring, parameter determination is fully automated. The use of the propod method in the parameter identifition system shows that the averaged current curve is in excellent agreement with the estimated current curve. Therefore, this close agreement confirms the validity of this technique.

  • Objective : Lumbar lordotic curve on L4 to S1 level is important in maintaining spinal sagittal alignment. Although there has been no definite report in lordotic value, loss of lumbar lordotic curve may lead to pathologic change especially in degenerative lumbar disease. This study examines the changes of lumbar lordotic curve after posterior lumbar interbody fusion with wedge shape cage. Methods : We studied 45patients who had undergone posterior lumbar interbody fusion with wedge shape cage and screw fixation due to degenerative lumbar disease. Preoperative and postoperative lateral radiographs were taken and one independent observer measured the change of lordotic curve and height of intervertebral space where cages were placed. Segmental lordotic curve angle was measured by Cobb method. Height of intervertebral space was measured by averaging the sum of anterior, posterior, and midpoint interbody distance. Clinical outcome was assessed on Prolo scale at 1month of postoperative period. Results : Nineteen paired wedge shape cages were placed on L4-5 level and 6 paired same cages were inserted on L5-S1 level. Among them, 18patients showed increased segmental lordotic curve angle. Mean increased segmental lordotic curve angle after placing the wedge shape cages was $1.96^{\circ}$. Mean increased disc height was 3.21mm. No cases showed retropulsion of cage. The clinical success rate on Prolo's scale was 92.0%. Conclusion : Posterior lumbar interbody fusion with wedge shape cage provides increased lordotic curve, increased height of intervertebral space, and satisfactory clinical outcome in a short-term period.

  • In this research, we developed an efficient real-time human exercise pose estimation system using multiple Kinects. The main objective of this system is to measure and recognize the user's posture (such as knee curl or lunge) more accurately by employing Kinects on the front and the sides. Especially it is designed as an extensible and modular method which enables to support various additional postures in the future. This system is configured as multiple clients and the Unity3D server. The client processes Kinect skeleton data and send to the server. The server performs the multiple-Kinect calibration process and then applies the pose estimation algorithm based on the Kinect-based posture recognition model using feature extractions and the weighted averaging of feature values for different Kinects. This paper presents the design and implementation of the human exercise pose estimation system using multiple Kinects and also describes how to build and execute an interactive Unity3D exergame.

  • Processes controlling the interannual variation of mixed layer temperature (MLT) averaged over the NINO3 domain ($150-90^{\circ}W$, $5^{\circ}N-5^{\circ}S$) are studied using an ocean data assimilation product that covers the period of 1993 to 2003. Advective tendencies are estimated here as the temperature fluxes through the domain's boundaries, with the boundary temperature referenced to the domain-averaged temperature to remove the dependence on temperature scale. The overall balance is such that surface heat flux opposes the MLT change but horizontal advection and subsurface processes assist the change. The zonal advective tendency is caused primarily by large-scale advection of warm-pool water through the western boundary of the domain. The meridional advective tendency is contributed mostly by Ekman current advecting large-scale temperature anomalies though the southern boundary of the domain. Unlike many previous studies, we explicitly evaluate the subsurface processes that consist of vertical mixing and entrainment. In particular, a rigorous method to estimate entrainment allows an exact budget closure. The vertical mixing across the mixed layer (ML) base has a contribution in phase with the MLT change. The entrainment tendency due to temporal change in ML depth is negligible comparing to other subsurface processes. The entrainment tendency by vertical advection across the ML base is dominated by large-scale changes in wind-driven upwelling and temperature of upwelling water. Tropical instability waves (TIWs) result in smaller-scale vertical advection that warms the domain during La Ni? cooling events. When the advective tendencies are evaluated by spatially averaging the conventional local advective tendencies of temperature, the apparent effects of currents with spatial scales smaller than the domain (such as TIWs) become very important as they redistribute heat within the NINO3 domain. However, such internal redistribution of heat does not represent external processes that control the domain-averaged MLT.

  • In this paper, we propose a method on the training sequence based on channel estimation issues for relay networks that employ amplify-and-forward(AF) transmission scheme. In $^{[1]}$ and $^{[2]}$, we have to point out that jointly estimating the channel from source to relay and from relay to destination suffers from many drawbacks in fast fading case because the estimation of previous pilots is not suitable for current channel. In this paper, we consider a new joint estimation of overall channel impulse response(CIR) using one OFDM signal without pilots. Using the maximum likelihood(ML) function, we derive a channel estimator by taking the frequency domain of transmitted signal as Gaussian and averaging the ML function over the resulting Gaussian distribution. Simulation results show that our proposed channel estimator performs a fraction of 1dB compared with $^{[1]}$ in high SNR region.

  • Objective : Use of quantitative computed tomography (CT) to evaluate bone mineral density was suggested in the 1970s. Despite its reliability and accuracy, technical shortcomings restricted its usage, and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) became the gold standard evaluation method. Advances in CT technology have reduced its previous limitations, and CT evaluation of bone quality may now be applicable in clinical practice. The aim of this study was to determine if the Hounsfield unit (HU) values obtained from CT correlate with patient age and bone mineral density. Methods : A total of 128 female patients who underwent lumbar CT for back pain were enrolled in the study. Their mean age was 66.4 years. Among them, 70 patients also underwent DXA. The patients were stratified by decade of life, forming five age groups. Lumbar vertebrae L1-4 were analyzed. The HU value of each vertebra was determined by averaging three measurements of the vertebra's trabecular portion, as shown in consecutive axial CT images. The HU values were compared between age groups, and correlations of HU value with bone mineral density and T-scores were determined. Results : The HU values consistently decreased with increasing age with significant differences between age groups (p<0.001). There were significant positive correlations (p<0.001) of HU value with bone mineral density and T-score. Conclusion : The trabecular area HU value consistently decreases with age. Based on the strong positive correlation between HU value and bone mineral density, CT-based HU values might be useful in detecting bone mineral diseases, such as osteoporosis.
