Electrical Properties and Clamping Voltage Characteristics of ZPCCY-Based Varistor Ceramics (ZPCCY계 바리스터 세라믹스의 전기적 성질 및 제한전압 특성)

  • The microstructure, electrical properties, and clamping voltage characteristics of $ZnO-Pr_6O_{11}-CoO-Cr_2O_3-Y_2O_3(ZPCCY)-based$ varistor ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ were investigated as a function of sintering time from 1 to 3 h. With increasing sintering time, the average grain size and density increased in the range of $11.4\~16.0\;{\mu}m$ and $5.34\~5.54g/cm^3$, respectively, in accordance of increasing sintering time. The nonlinear exponent decreased in the range of $60\~26$ and the leakage current increased in the range of $1.3\~10.7\;{\mu}A$ with increasing sintering time. The clamping voltage ratio increased in the range $1.58\~1.65$ for ratio surge current of 10 A as the sintering time increased.

  • Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 was prepared by the molten salt synthesis method using an equimolar mixture of NaCl-KCl. Initial particle size could be controlled by varying the weight ratio of the NaCl-KCl to raw materials from 0.1 to 1.0, and the initial particle size effects on the sintering and dielectric properties of Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 were investigated at the sintering temperature range from 90$0^{\circ}C$ to 105$0^{\circ}C$. As the weight ratio of salt increased, the average particle size decreased and the particle size distributions tended to narrow. As the initial particle size decreased, the linear shrinkage and density increased due to the promotion of densification. Dielectric constant increased with decreasing the initial particle size resulting from the increase of density and grain size.

Properties of VN Coatings Deposited by ICP Assisted Sputtering: Effect of ICP Power

  • Vanadium nitride (VN) coatings were deposited using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) assisted sputtering at different ICP powers. Microstructural, crystallographic and mechanical characterizations were performed by FE-SEM, AFM, XRD and nanoindentation. The results show that ICP has significant effects on coating's microstructure, structural and mechanical properties of VN coatings. With an increase in ICP power, coating microstructure evolved from a porous columnar structure to a highly dense one. Single- phase cubic (FCC) VN coatings with different preferential orientations and residual stresses were obtained as a function of ICP power. Average crystal grain sizes of single phase cubic (FCC) VN coatings were decreased from 10.1 nm to 4.0 nm with an increase in ICP power. The maximum hardness of 28.2 GPa was obtained for the coatings deposited at ICP power of 200 W. The smoothest surface morphology with Ra roughness of 1.7 nm was obtained in the VN coating sputtered at ICP power of 200 W.

  • Electrical conductivity, I - V and DLTS have been measured on polycrystalline samples of $\alpha-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ containing small deviation from stoichiometry and small amounts of added titanium. DLTS (Deep Level Transient Spectroscopy) in the current transient mode has been applied to the measurement of the trap density at the grain boundary. Titanium enters the $\alpha-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ lattice substitutionally as $Ti^{4+}$, thus producing an $Fe^{2+}$ and maintaining the average charge per cation at three. The $Fe^{2+}$acts as a donor center with respect to the surrounding $Fe^{3+}$ions.

  • In this paper, the structural and electrical properties of the $Sr_{1-x}Ca_xTiO_3$($0{\leq}x{\leq}0.2$)-based grain boundary layer ceramics were investigated by X-ray, SEM and V-I system. Increasing content of Ca, the average gram size and the lattice constant were decreased. The relative density of all specimens was > 96%. The 2nd phase formed by thermal diffusing from the surface lead to a very excellent electrical properties, that is, ${\varepsilon}_r$ > 50000, tan${\delta}$ < 0.05, $\Delta$C < ${\pm}$ 10%.

  • The microstructure and electrical properties of Zn-Pr-Co-Cr-Tb oxide-based varistors were investigated for different $Tb_4O_7$ amounts. As the $Tb_4O_7$ amount increased, the average grain size decreased from 7.7 to $4.8{\mu}m$ and the sintered density increased from 5.73 to $5.84g/cm^3$. As the $Tb_4O_7$ amount increased, the varistor voltage increased from 280.9 to 715.8V/mm and the nonlinear coefficient increased from 26.4 to 44.4. It is assumed that these varistors can be applied for high power with compact size.

  • We have studied the structural and optical properties of ZnO thin film deposited on glass by RF magnetron sputtering as functions of working pressures. The grain sizes were decreased as the working pressures were increased. The average optical transmissions over all exceeded 80% for ZnO films deposited in 20, 25 and 300m torr working pressures. And the transmission spectra patterns were almost same. While the transmission spectra pattern of ZnO film deposited in 35nm torr was different with other spectra patterns obtained in 20, 25 and 30nm torr working pressures.

Characteristics of Porous Wollastonite Ceramics Fabricated by Hydrothermal Synthesis (수열 합성에 의해 제조된 다공성 Wollastonite Ceramics의 특성)

  • The porous wollastonite ceramics were fabricated after firing calcium silicates, obtained using natural resources and by-products of power plants by hydrothermal synthesis, without organic fibers or asbestos for reinforcement agent. A specimen from diatomite as a SiO2 staring raw material had the highest strength owing to normal grain growth and good densification from homogeneous sperhcial C-S-H hydrates. A specimen from SiO2 sol as a SiO2 starting raw material showed tobermolite, but fly ash and mixed system did xonotlite after hydrothermal synthesis. The specimen from fly ash showed the lowest firing shirikage and strength changes in the firing range from 50$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$. The other phases in all specimens changed to wollastonite phase after firing at 100$0^{\circ}C$. Also the average pore size was distributed from 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

Structural and Dielectric Properties of Pb(zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 Thick Films Fabricated using a Screen Printing Technologies

  • [ $Pb(Zr_{0.2}Ti_{0.8})O_3$ ] powders, prepared by the sol-gel method, were mixed with an organic vehicle and the PZT thick films were fabricated by the screen-printing techniques on Pt/alumina substrates. The structural and dielectric properties were examined as a function of sintering temperature. The particle size distribution of the powder is bimodal with the mean particle size of about $1.2\;{\mu}m$. The average grain size of the PZT thick films sintered above $1000^{\circ}C$ was about $3.1\;{\mu}m$ and the thickness of the specimens was approximately $41\;{\mu}m$. The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the thick films sintered at $1050^{\circ}C$ were 337 and $1.24\%$, respectively.

  • The microstructure, electrical, and clamping voltage characteristics of ZPCCD-based varistors were investigated at sintering time of 2 and 3 h. The average grain size and density of varistor were increased from 15.2 to 19.0 and from 5.5 to 5.6 $g/cm^3$ with sintering time, respectively. The nonlinear exponent was 65.4 for 2 h and 37.4 for 3 h, and leakage current was 0.54 ${\mu}A$ for 2 h and 0.67 ${\mu}A$ for 3 h. The dissipation factor was 0.0397 for 2 h and 0.0457 for 3 h. The clamping voltage ratio at surge current($8/20{\mu}s$) of 10~300 A was increased in the range of 1.56~2.17.
