  • In Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems, Narrow-Band Jamming (NBJ) over pilot tones used for channel estimation degrades the system performance. In this paper, we propose a new jammed pilot detection and elimination algorithm to overcome this problem. Moreover, the average Mean-Squared Error (MSE) on one OFDM symbol both under jammed and removed pilot subcarrier is analyzed. And then, the Symbol Error Rate (SER) performance of the channel estimation scheme using the proposed algorithm is evaluated by simulation. We can confirm that the channel estimator with the proposed algorithm improves the channel estimation performance at a high jamming power.

  • In this paper, we investigate the error probability performance of noncoherently detected orthogonal modulation combined with Alamouti space-time block coding. We find that there are two types of pair-wise error probabilities that characterize the performance. We employ methods that allow a direct evaluation of exact, closed-form expressions for these error probabilities. Theoretical as well as numerical results show that noncoherent orthogonal modulation combined with space-time block coding (STBC) achieves full spatial diversity. We derive an expression for approximate average bit error probability for-ary orthogonal signaling that allows one to show the tradeoff between increased rate and performance degradation.

  • Recently, a concern of power qualify increases because of electronic device development and well-being generation. Power quality problems such as voltage sag, harmonics, flicker etc. have adverse effects on electric devices. Therefore, power quality problems have been monitored. This paper studies a detection of voltage sag that is more severer than the others. A voltage sag has been monitored using rms or wavelet method. This paper proposes an advance detection method using wavelet. An error Of Start Point differs error of ending point. We use this difference. So, we respectively revise detection error. Also, we revise multiplying average error rate.

  • In this study, laser welding of aluminum AA5182 with AA5356 filler wire was carried out and the formability of the weld joint was evaluated through Erichsen test according to laser power, welding speed and wire feed rate. Fracture was occurred in both directions, perpendicular and parallel to the weld line at 0.75 of Erichsen ratio. Second order Regression model to estimate Erichsen ratio with experimental variables was proposed and the performance of model was evaluated with F-test and average error rate.

  • We consider an optimal antenna weighting scheme for a closed-loop transmit antenna diversity system in Rayleigh fading channels. We derive a closed-form expression for the optimal transmitter weights that minimize the average bit error rate (BER) subject to fixed average and peak transmit power constraints. It is shown that the peak power limitation degrades the average BER performance more significantly as the available average power and/or the number of transmit antennas increase.

  • This paper describes a 'gyro-mouse', which provides a new human-computer interface (HCI) for persons who are disabled in their upper extremities, for handling the mouse-click and mouse-move function. We adopted the artificial neural network to recognize a quick-nodding pattern of the disabled person as the gyro-mouse click. The performance of our gyro-mouse was evaluated by three indices that include 'click recognition rate', 'error in cursor position control', and 'click rate per minute' on a target box appearing at random positions. Although it turned out that the average error in cursor positioning control was 1.4-1.5 times larger than that of optical mouse control, and the average click rate per minute was 40% of the optical mouse, the overall click recognition rate was 93%. Moreover, the click rate per minute increased from 35.2% to 44% with repetitive trials. Hence, our suggested gyro-mouse system can be used to provide a new user interface tool especially for those persons who do not have full use of their upper extremities.

  • In this paper, we induced that the noise powers and bit error rate of direct detection receiver taking account of ISI (intersymbol interference) in the 2,000 km optical transmission system. And we evaluated the sensitivity in the vrious bit rate system. We verified that the proposed calculation method is applicable to the exact optical system. And we confirmed that the signal distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects compensated by using of MSSI (Mid-Span Spectral Inversion) method, and yet the sensitivity of a higher bit rate system is reduced, because of the increase of ISI and then the decrease of the average receiving power, compared with a the lower bit rate system.

  • The signal model and weighted-average based estimation techniques are proposed to estimate the angle-of-arrival (AOA) parameters of multiple clusters for a low data rate ultrawide band (LR-UWB) based wireless positioning system. It is observed that the weighted-average based AOA estimation technique gives an optimal AOA estimate under few clusters condition, and the average based AOA estimation technique gives a correct AOA estimate under many clusters condition through computer simulation. Also, we can observe that the variance estimation error decreases as SNR increases, and the proposed techniques are superior to the conventional technique from the viewpoint of performance.

  • In this paper an active random noise control using adaptive learning rate neural networks is presented. The adaptive learning rate strategy increases the learning rate by a small constant if the current partial derivative of the objective function with respect to the weight and the exponential average of the previous derivatives have the same sign, otherwise the learning rate is decreased by a proportion of its value. The use of an adaptive learning rate attempts to keep the learning step size as large as possible without leading to oscillation. It is expected that a cost function minimize rapidly and training time is decreased. Numerical simulations and experiments of active random noise control with the transfer function of the error path will be performed, to validate the convergence properties of the adaptive learning rate Neural Networks. Control results show that adaptive learning rate Neural Networks control structure can outperform linear controllers and conventional neural network controller for the active random noise control.

  • In recent years, a non-contact respiration and heart rates monitoring via IR-UWB radar has been paid much attention to in various applications - patient monitoring, occupancy detection, survivor exploring in disaster area, etc. In this paper, we address a novel approach of real time heart rate estimation using IR-UWB radar. We apply sine fitting and peak detection method for estimating respiration rate and heart rate, respectively. We also deploy two techniques to mitigate the error caused by wrong estimation of respiration rate: a moving average filter and finding the frequency of the highest occurrence. Experimental results show that the algorithm can estimate heart rate in real time when respiration rate is presumed to be estimated accurately.
