Technological Innovation and Multiple- and Single-Sourcing Policies In the Automobile Parts Trade

  • The single sourcing policy, in which an automobile manufacturer purchases identical or similar parts from one supplier, has an advantage of scale economy. Meanwhile, multiple sourcing policy, which allows procuring similar parts from multiple suppliers, has benefits of dispersing risks and promoting competition among suppliers. This paper analyzes the procurement policies by presenting a model of the Japanese automobile parts trade. It concludes that maturity of technology involved should be taken into account besides above-mentioned factors which have traditionally been recognized. For parts produced using evolving technologies, the single sourcing enhances purchaser’s benefits because of the scale economy in learning process. In the meantime, multiple sourcing is more beneficial to the purchaser if the parts are based on mature technologies. In either policy, if the technology involved is evolving, motivating suppliers by returning a great part of cost reduction as a reward to them may eventually increase profit for the purchaser. The conclusion supports the situation where the number of suppliers is being cut down as the trend of modularization and system deliveries of parts progresses in the auto parts industry, and suggests that returning part of benefits to parts suppliers may be encouraged from the viewpoint of auto manufacturers’ own interest.

  • In these days, customers require high-quality, high-performance, high-ride comfort for Automobile and then the automotive manufacturers concentrated on study of electrical, high-performance, low-cost of parts and sub-parts. In this paper, for ride comfort estimation PSD(Power Spectral Density) of acceleration at eight test point are measured, and then are calculated with new index of ride comfort. The new index of ride comfort developed for optimal design, real test, applied the actual. It can apply for various fields.

Hydroforming을 위한 Weld line 최적배치에 관한연구 (A Study on the Weld Line Position Optimization for Hydroforming)

  • Hydroforming is a metal forming process that enables circular metal tubes to be formed in to the parts with the complex cross section along the curved axial direction. Recently this hydroforming process is largely used for the production of the automotive parts. This paper presents the results of tube bending and hydroforming simulations in cases of the varying weld line positions of the tube. Ten cases of prebending and hydroforming simulations are carried out to find the optiaml weld line position.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUE OF A WARM SHRINK FITTING PROCESS FOR AN AUTOMOTIVE TRANSMISSION PARTS

  • A fitting process carried out in the automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that applies heat in the outer diameter of a gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and assembles the gear and the shaft made larger than the inner radius of the gear. Its stress depends on the yield strength of a gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of a shaft at room temperature by a press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of a shaft. A warm shrink fitting process for an automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by the process produced dimensional change in both outer diameter and profile of the gear so that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of a warm shrink fitting process in which design parameters such as contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of a shaft and inner diameter of a gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear are involved. In this study, an closed form equation to predict the contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop an optimization technique of a warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field have a good agreement with the results obtained from theoretical and finite element analysis and also the expanded amounts of the outer diameters of the gears have a good agreement with the results.

  • 글로벌 경쟁환경의 심화와 기업 운영환경의 변화로 인하여, 국내의 기업들은 국내외 생산 및 물류를 최적화하고, 기업간 공급망 경쟁력을 극대화하기 위하여, IT활용 역량을 강화하기 위한 정보화 전략계획 수립을 추진하여 오고 있다. 특히, 자동차 산업은 '글로벌 생산 판매 체계'와 시장변화에 유연하게 대응할 수 있는 '수요 기반의 생산 대응 체계'를 구축하여 운영하기 위하여 다양한 노력을 기울여 왔다. 그러함에도, 생산/물류 부문에서는 부품업체의 IT구축 및 활용 수준이 타 부문 보다 높은 수준이나, 전반적으로 타 제조업체에 비해 부품업체의 IT 구축 및 활용이 매우 낮은 수준인 것으로 조사되고 있다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구의 대상인 A기업(중소기업)은 정보시스템의 활용성과 정확성이 낮은 문제를 안고 있어, 수작업과 현장 확인에 따른 업무 효율성의 저하에 직면한 상황이어서, 이를 개선하기 위해 정보시스템의 활용도를 제고하고, ERP 및 POP 시스템의 기능개선 작업을 실시 중에 있으나, 자체개발 방식으로 추진하고 있어서 최신 기술의 도입 및 적용에 한계가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

자동차 내장재용 고분자 재료의 필드 열화에 따른 마찰소음 특성변화 (Observation and Characterization of Squeak Noises of Polymeric Materials for Automotive Interior Parts Under Field-Degradation)

  • In this work, the effect of field-degradation of automotive polymeric interior parts on the squeak characteristics was studied for a number of used vehicles with various mileages and years of service. The purpose of this study was to characterize the squeak noise related with long-term degradation in service life. The characteristics of field-degraded polymeric samples are analyzed using Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Complicated carbonyl spectra from FT-IR were deconvoluted into various carbonyls to trace field-degradation phenomenon. In addition, various mechanical tests, i.e. tensile test, hardness test as well as coefficient of friction test, were performed to analyze the variation in mechanical properties due to field-degradation. Squeak noise was measured and analyzed by frequency analysis. It was shown that the changes in the chemical structures of polymer due to field-degradation influenced the variation in mechanical properties, and squeak noise may worsen by increasing the squeak noise level in the wide frequency range. The results indicated that customer complaints regarding the squeak noise coming from used vehicles might be one of the important reliability issues because the increase in sound pressure level especially in the high frequency range could annoy drivers and passengers.

중공형 금속 복합 재료 부품의 Thixoforging 공정과 문제점 (Thixoforging Process and the Problems of Hollow Type Metal Matrix Composite Part)

  • MMC has excellent mechanical properties in many ways in automotive industrial, and get into the spotlight as a light materials substituted for iron and steel. But the know-how about MMC research lack, MMC is expensive and difficult to apply the sound parts. Especially it is difficult to produce the hollow type parts composed with MMC. Therefore, hollow type parts of metal composites by using thixoforming process which as co-existing solidus-liquidus phase, it is very important to obtain forming condition. In this study, MMC billet producted by electro-magnetic stirring and mechanical stirring process is formed to hollow type parts of thixoforming process and inspected of suitability for application. It is optimized production condition, and applied to experiment. After variable materials were produced for thixoforming process, it were inspected of suitability for application by comparsion with mechanical properties. In this study, used materials were A357, A380 10%vol, and 20%vol SiCp, and the size of particultes were 14$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 5.5$\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • In this paper, we introduce an ubiWarehouse system for the management of automobile parts. Because automotive parts are very various in kinds according to companies, models and manufacture year, it's hard to find exactly the desired parts and to control goods in stock. To solve this problem, we propose the model of context recognizer in which context data are expressed in a systematic type of 5W1H. And initial context data are grouped and integrated, and some conflict context information is solved. Finally user's intention is interpreted and served. As a result, the proposed system can be used to enhance conveniency and correctness of the management of various kinds of part's.

  • Spare part management is very important to products that have large number of parts and long lifecycle such as automobile and aircraft. Supply chain must support immediate procurement for repair. However, it is not easy to handle spare parts efficiently due to huge stock keeping units. Qualified forecasting is the basis for the supply chain to achieve the goal. In this paper, we propose an agent based modeling approach that can deal with various factors simultaneously without mathematical modeling. Simulation results show that the proposed method is reasonable to describe demand generation process, and consequently, to forecast demand of spare parts in long-term perspective.

플랜지 형성 액압성형시 공정변수에 따른 성형 특성 (Effect of Process Parameters on Forming Characteristics of Flange Hydroforming Process)

  • Hydroforming is the technology that utilizes hydraulic pressure to form tube or sheet materials into desired shapes inside die cavities. Tube hydroforming provides a number of advantages over the conventional stamping process, including fewer secondary operations, weight reduction, assembly simplification, adaptability to forming of complex structural components and improved structural strength. In many case, hydroformed parts have to be structurally joined at some point. Therefore it is useful if the hydroformed automotive parts can be given a localized attachment flange. In this study for the numerical process design FE analysis was performed with DYNAFORM 5.5. Die parting angle and circumferential expansion ratio was optimized. With optimized condition, bulge and hydroforming experiments to form flange were performed. Forming characteristic at various pressure conditions was analyzed and optimized internal pressure condition was evaluated. The results show that flanged parts can be successfully produced by tube hydroforming process.
