A Theoretical and Empirical Survey of Computer Attitudes

  • For years, research on the impact of students' attitudes on learning has maintained a spot amongst the most highly discussed topics in education. Particularly, over the past decades, researchers have made great strides in better understanding attitudes toward computers. This article presents a critical review of the current state of research by re-examining how attitudes toward computers have been studied. First, the review introduces an overview of the theoretical foundations and the origins of research on attitudes toward computers. Then, the article summarizes previous literature and knowledge about computer attitudes and provides a review of major findings from research on the effects of some factors affecting the formation of computer attitudes. The discussion reveals a number of major issues and challenges, which include unclear characterization of computer attitudes, problems with measurement tools, and the lack of studies using methods other than brief questionnaires. The unsolved problems cause conflicting, inconsistent and inconclusive results and affect interpretation in the study of computer attitudes. The article also suggests the main recent and future directions of research on attitudes toward computers. Finally, it concludes by providing implications for educators.

한국판 통계에 대한 태도 검사(K-SATS) 타당화 (Validation Study of Korean Version of Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics(K-SATS))

  • 전통적으로 대학에서 개설되는 통계학 강좌의 지향점은 통계적 지식과 기술의 습득 여부에 주된 초점이 맞추어져 있었다. 그러나 최근 연구에서 통계에 대한 태도와 같은 비인지적 요인이 통계학 성취도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 통계 학습에 대한 긍정적인 태도의 함양이 통계 지식 및 기술의 습득 못지않게 중요한 통계학 강좌의 과제로 부각되었다. 이에 해외에서는 통계에 대한 태도를 측정하는 검사의 개발 및 타당화 연구가 많이 이루어졌으나 국내는 아직 미비한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 통계에 대한 태도를 가장 타당하게 측정하고 있다고 평가되고 있는 SATS-36(Survey of Attitudes Toward Statistics-36; Schau 등, 1995)을 우리나라 대학생들의 특성에 맞게 수정한 한국판 통계에 대한 태도 검사(K-SATS)를 타당화하고자 하였다. 예비분석 결과 원척도의 6요인이 아닌 흥미, 가치, 인지적 역량, 용이성, 노력의 5요인 구조가 한국 학부생 및 대학원생들에게 적합한 것으로 나타났으며, 본 검사 분석 결과 K-SATS의 신뢰도와 구인타당도가 확인되었다. 또한 K-SATS의 전체 혹은 하위 척도별 점수에서 성별, 강좌 수준, 학위 과정, 전공 계열에 따라 학생들의 통계에 대한 태도에 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 한국판 통계 태도 검사가 추후 연구와 교수방법에 주는 시사점에 대해 논의하였다.

  • This survey investigated elementary school teachers' Astronomical Spatial Concept and their Attitudes about Astronomy for Effectively Teaching Strategy. This study surveyed 53 teachers in Ulsan. The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS WIN 18.0. The results of this study are as follows : First, Elementary school teachers' level of understanding of the concept of astronomical space, usually lower. In particular, the lower the level of understanding of the concept of spatial location. Second, Elementary teachers' attitudes about astronomy, astronomers generally appreciate the value of the information and guidance, but difficult for astronomers had recognized. Third, the concept of space and astronomy astronomical elementary teacher attitudes about sex and there was no significant difference according to the teaching career. Therefore, in order to develop effective teaching strategies for elementary teachers attitudes about astronomy and astronomical space concepts from their spatial position to increase the understanding of astronomy, often on the job training to strengthen the astronomers should eliminate the difficulties.

가족가치관과 성역할태도에 영향을 미치는 인구학적 변인 : 국제비교 분석 (The Impact of Demographic Variables on Family Value Orientations and Gender Role Attitudes : The International Comparison)

  • This study aims to examine how much Korean's family value orientations and gender role attitudes are different from those of U.S.A., Sweden, and Japan, and how demographic variables influence family value orientations and gender role attitudes across the countries. By using 2004 Korea General Social Survey data and 2002 International Social Survey Program family module, multiple regression analyses showed that Korean's family value orientations and gender role attitudes were much more traditional than those of U.S.A., Sweden, and Japan, even after controlling demographic variables. Furthermore, each country showed a distinct pattern in the impact of demographic variables on family value orientations and gender role attitudes. Among the demographic variables, age and marital status were statistically significant indicators of family value orientations for all the countries. However, gender, the year of education, and employment status effected on family value orientations only in some countries. The findings of this study showed that Korea was still traditional in terms of family value orientations and gender role attitudes, compared with U.S.A, Sweden, and Japan. Although family value orientations were more traditional in Korea than in the other countries, all the countries showed similar patterns of explaining mechanism in the effect of demographic variables on family value orientations. People who were men and married were likely to be more traditional than those who were women and unmarried. However, gender role attitudes showed interesting results. All the demographic variables were significant predictors of gender role attitudes for Korea, whereas only some of demographic variables were statistically significant indicators of gender role attitudes for other countries. That is, Korean society showed strong attitudinal differences on the basis of demographic variables. The implication of these differences was discussed.

  • This is the third consecutive study on the 'Standardization of Measurements for Korean Kitchen work cneters and cabinets for future design criteria I, II'. The present research consisted of two studies 1) the examination of attitudes and responses of consumers toward kitchen work centers and cabinets, and 2) comparision of actual measurements with the models suggested in study II. Homemakers of upper and middle class residing in Seoul were selected for the survey: 1,096 survey questionaires on consumer attitudes and 95 questionnaires on actual measurements were used. Data were analyzed using the SAS computer package.

초.중등 학생 및 교사의 환경교육에 관한 의식 조사 (A Survey of Attitudes toward to, Values and Expectation of Environmental Education of korean students and Teachers)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate attitudes toward to, values and expectations of environmental education of Korean students and teachers and to provide basic data and reference materials needed to development of environmental education curricula for primary and secondary schools. A review of the related literature, a series of conferences with teachers and specialists in environmental education and environmental sciences. and questionnaire survey were methods employed in this study. Survey question were developed to explore attitude and responses of primary and secondary school students and teachers on various types of issues and problems of environmental education at personal level as well as on their future prospects attitudes values and expectations with which had been dealt in this study were categorized into personal feeling on environmental issues and problems at both national and regional levels issues and problems of current environmental education pre service and in service training of teachers for environmental education instruction and so on. The sample population for the survey was selected by using the stratified cluster and random sampling techniques with respect to regional area, school level, sex and grade, The subjects used in this study were 1,633 students and 385 teachers of primary and secondary schools across the country. The results of the survey were summed up and recommendations to be considered in the revision of sixth national curricula for primary and secondary schools were also suggested.

한의사의 근거중심의학에 대한 인식 및 태도 - 침구요법을 중심으로 (Traditional Korean Medicine Practitioners' Awareness and Attitudes toward Evidence Based Medicine)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to estimate traditional Korean medicine (TKM) practitioners' awareness and attitudes about acupuncture clinical study toward evidence based medicine (EBM). Methods : We conducted two surveys before and after the workshop. First survey, about the awareness and attitudes toward EBM was carried out with questionnaire. Second survey, about their changes in the attitudes toward EBM after the workshop was carried out with on-line questionnaire. Results : 70.0 % of respondents shows interest in the trends of clinical research. In contrast, 26.0 % of respondents used to search papers by themselves. 30.3 % of respondents reported that they apply the result of researches to their practice. 41.0 % of respondents thought that case study is needed for their practice, whereas 29.5 % responded that randomized controlled trial is most important. In the second survey, the attitudes toward EBM were changes positive. fair number of respondents usually get information from data regardless of EBM for their practice, but 23.5 % of respondents refer to the journals. Conclusions : The awareness and needs for education on the attendees toward EBM is quite high, and the effect of education is possibly influential. We expect the improvement on the refresher and the extension of education course for practitioners, and undergraduate curriculum.

외국인의 에스닉 푸드에 대한 태도가 한식 구매 의도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Foreigner's Ethnic Food Attitudes on Purchasing Intentions of Korean Foods)

  • In order to globalize Korean foods successfully, it is necessary to understand foreigners' attitudes about ethnic foods and how foreigners perceive Korean foods. It would be valuable to survey the degree of interest from foreigners when purchasing Korean foods. Thus, a survey was performed on the most common tourists in Korea, the Japanese, Chinese and Americans. 313 respondents completed the survey on ethnic foods (16 questions), purchasing intention of Korean foods (3 questions), and socio-demographic conditions (9 questions). Factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted to identify the indicators of attitudes toward ethnic foods. Correlation analysis was conducted to confirm the relation between attitudes toward ethnic foods and Korean food purchasing intention. From the results of factor analysis, 5 factors emerged from the 13 out of 16 questions; and were labeled new food seekers, ethnic food seekers, familiarity seekers, new taste seekers and challenge seekers. Items were analyzed to determine the differences according to nationality by using the ANOVA, and it showed that Americans have the highest Korean food purchasing intentions. The regression analysis indicated that attitude factors on ethnic foods, new foods and new taste seekers are strongly related to Korean food purchase intentions.

상품특성에 대한 태도와 가사노동 상품대체에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Attitudes toward Market Goods Characteristics and the Market Goods Substitution of Housework)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the attitudes toward of market goods characteristics and to investigate the relationships between attitudes toward market goods characteristics and the level of market goods substitution of housework. For empirical analysis, the data of the study was collected from 572 married women living in Seoul. A questionnaire was used as a survey method. Data was analysed using SPSS/WIN8. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1) Wives had negative attitudes toward quality characteristics in the domain of food, but positive attitudes in the domain of clothes. They had positive attitudes toward time/labor saving characteristic, especially ready-made side dishes and dining-out, whereas negative attitudes toward money saving characteristic in the domain of food and clothes. 2) The level of market goods substitution of housework was influenced by the attitudes toward market goods characteristics.

성인 여성의 성역할 태도와 의복디자인에 나타난 음양특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Sex-role Attitudes of Women and Yin-Yang characteristics in clothing design)

  • The purpose of this study was 1) to investi-gate the trends of sex-role attitudes of women and 2) to examine the relations between sex-role attitudes and Yin-yang characteristics in clothing design. The survey was conducted among 317 women in Seoul and Kyunggi province. The results were as follows: 1) Androgynious gender and masculine gen-der with sex-role attitudes are strongly ap-peared among the low-age university students and not-married group. 2) Yang characteristics with light and cool-warm color to the clothing color and with clothing design are strongly appeared ming the low-age university students and not-mar-ried group. 3) Masculine attitude with clothing design preference attitudes are strongly appeared among the low-ager university students and not-married group. Many persons appeared to have feminine attitude rather than in andro-gynious attitude. 4) There are significant differences between sex-role attitudes and yin-yang characteristics to the clothing design. A high level of mascu-line gender is storngly indicated the yang characteristics with saturation to the clothing colorand and with clothing design 5) There are significant differences between sex-role attitudes and clothing design prefer-ence attitudes.
