Food is an expression of social identity. The food we eat identifies us as members of a social group, distinguishes us from other groups, and binds us together through a process of self-categorization and social identification. This research extends the theory of collectivism versus individualism as basic dimensions of culture and personality to research on food and identity. We tested 2 hypotheses among 402 university students in Korea and the U.S. 1) Americans assume relatively individualistic orientation while Koreans relatively collectivistic in orientation. 2) Koreans and Americans differ in their orientation toward food, with Americans assuming an individualistic orientation and Koreans assuming a collectivistic approach. The level of collectivism versus individualism was measured by using Hui's INCOL Scale. We initially hypothesized that the Americans would be strongly individualistic and Koreans strongly collectivistic, however our results did not prove this. The two groups showed collectivistic social identity with the Americans being a bit more collectivistic, so little support was found. In order to test the second hypothesis, we devised a new set of questions based on a idea by Hui and Fischer. It was found that this hypothesis was strongly supported. In conclusion, it is difficult to find overall differences in collectivism versus individualism between the two groups. But in the area of attitude toward food, we found clear differences. For Koreans, food is an expression of collectivistic identity, whereas Americans assume a more individualistic approach.

The purposes of this study were to collect basic data on education of Sexuality(Health education) of consciousness & value of sexuality of elementary school children. 584,6th grade students in elementary school in Yong-In city were analysed and the results are as follow; 1. Knowledges of sexuality for children was at a average level, especially "physical change of puberty" and "sexual violence" were well recognized but "the physical characteristics of male & female" and "physiological phenomena of men" were less recognized. Attitudes of sexuality were positive for "relationship with partners" and "expression of mind". Practices of sexuality were at a low rate in the case of "shaking hands with partner" and "experience of sexual behavior". The Value of sexuality was at a high rates in the case of "the role of sex", "equality" & "self-identification", therefore students need good education of sexuality from childhood 2. Sexuality education of students increased knowledges of sexuality as a consciousness. There was no relationship between attitudes and pratices of sexuality. Educated children valued sexuality move highly than uneducated children. This result shows that education is needed with regard to both the knowledge and value of sexuality in a planned system. We need some program to provide more information on sexual attitudes and practices. 3. There was a high correlation between the consciousness of sexuality and value placed on it. As sexual awareness increases amongst students codes of morality develop Positive sexual attitudes served as good role models for sex. In particular positive sexual attitudes have a big effect on sexual values. In addition, as sexual awareness and attitude increase amongst students the role of sexual development. The elementary school phase sexual values are developed and determined. It is therefore an important phase.
Objectives : To analyse the psychosocial factors associated with hypertension management(drug treatment and life style modification) of newly detected cases and to understand and assess their behavioral intention or behaviors. Methods : The survey area was a combined urban and rural area in Chungnam province, Korea, and the sampling method was cluster sampling. Study subjects included 541 newly detected cases of hypertension rated above stage 2 by JNC-VI from a community survey. The first survey was applied to 383 of these patients in order to discern their psychosocial characteristics. A follow-up survey was given to 345 persons with an 11-month interval following monthly telephone counseling concerning medication and life style modification by trained nurses. The final study subjects for analysis comprised 271 persons after excluding cases of incomplete data and change of address. Results : Among the 85(33.2%) new patients who had intended to undergo drug treatment, 30(35.3%) persons were treated with antihypertensive agent after 11 - month interval, while among the patients with no intention to receive treatment, only 36(21.1%) persons were treated. Hypertensive patients with a high intention score revealed a high score in life style modification compliance as well. Seventy three percent of the variance of behavioral intention to undergo hypertension management was explained by the patients attitude toward performing the behavior and subjective norm associated with behaviors related to the theory of reasoned action in structural modeling. Actual behaviors related positively with behavioral intention. The coefficient of determination was 0.255. Conclusion : Improving the compliance level of hypertensive patients in respect to drug treatment or life style modification requires a build up of positive behavioral intention, and caregivers must pay more attention to eventually converting behavioral intention to actual behaviors.

As the number of successful design innovation product cases in business increases, interest in design innovation is increasing. This study aims to examine how the design innovation (functionality, ergonomics, aesthetics) of Bluetooth speaker products affects the customer's preference and purchase intention. It proposes a research model through rational behavior theory (TRA) and technology acceptance model (TAM) for empirical research. The questionnaire was composed of questions to understand the influence of design innovation, favorability, and purchase intention. As a result of the study, functionality, ergonomics, and aesthetics influenced product preference and purchase intention. In order for the innovative product of Bluetooth speaker design to be accepted in the early market, it is most important to form a positive attitude toward favorability centering on function and aesthetics. Favorability is a factor that has the most decisive influence on the purchase intention of design innovation products, and companies must discover and reinforce various factors that positively affect the preference.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze contents of beer advertisements in Korea. Research has suggested the influence of alcohol advertisements on viewer's drinking behavior, attitude, and expectancies. Korea's policy on alcohol advertising relies on limited government regulation and self regulation among alcohol industries. This study is expected to lay a foundation for further discussion on regulating alcohol advertising in Korea. Methods: A total of 81 beer advertisements broadcasted between 2008 and 2011 were analyzed. The contents were categorized into themes (22 themes were used), models, and presentation techniques. Results: The themes most frequently appeared in beer advertisements were quality (66.7%), relaxation (44%), camaraderie (41%), and individuality (39.5%), respectively. Analysis of models revealed that most advertisements had more than three models (64.2%), and most of them were in their 20s (68%). As much as 82% of advertisements used celebrity models. Analysis on presentation techniques showed that 91.4% displayed drinking scenes, and 27% displayed gulping down the whole bottle or the glass. Finally, about 10% of ads showed drinking in hazardous situations such as during water sports. Conclusion: The results of the study reflect the minimal regulation of alcohol advertising in Korea. The need for joint effort by legislators, researchers, alcohol industries, and advertising agencies is discussed in order to establish healthier drinking environment.
The rapid growth and popularity of Twitter have been one of the most influential phenomena in the era of social network system and the mobile internet, which also opens up opportunities for new business strategies; in particular, PR and marketing area. This study analyzed use of Twitter in terms of user characteristics and message attributes. Actual field data from the Twitter for PR and Marketing of a representative Korean IT company (Company "K") was used for this analysis. Research findings show that overall corporate twitter users show passive attitude in retweet behavior. Also, users who have relatively small network size (less than 1,000) are more active in retweet than power twitterians that have big network size(over than 10,000). It is showed that the rate of retweet is higher in the order of recruiting, promotional event, IT information, and general PR message. In the conclusion section, practical implications based on the research finding are thoroughly discussed.
The article is to investigate selection of Korean cuisine restaurants and levels of acculturation for foreigner living in Korea and to suggest some guidelines for drawing them and enlargement in consuming market. Out of 250 questionnaires, 220 questionnaires were used for data analysis. The findings are showed visiting for taking experience other culture and learning technology & training, not knowing well much about Korean culture, and eating experience Korean food on 30.5%, less than 2 years length in Korea. And the most difficult points are showed unclear communication, rude behavior, attitude, and language in living Korea. Second, the purpose of visiting restaurant is to spend good time with friends and to eat out special food, then foreigners usually have lunch & dinner Korean food, their own food on weekend. Third, 'service' and 'sanitation & cleanness' factors were ranked highly for foreigners living less than 2 years, but 'location' factor was ranked highly for residents living more than 4 years in the Korea. Last, foreigners living less than 2 years recognized highly on 'identification and Korea culture' in the Korea.
After the rapid growth of economics in South Korea 1960'1, the number of workers in the whole land in-creased day after day along with the growth of industry. As the growth of the third industry occurred quite rapid-ly, the rate of office workers went up high. Accordingly the business office has been changed the primary work-ing space and recognized the main space as much as the living space. As a result of conceptual change about working place, the business office has an important ef-fect on worker's liberal and psychological environment. In order to provide the office workers with the office work-ers with the suitable and convenient working environ-ment, Socio-psychological factors were first considered at the first stage of construction planning. In this paper, I would understand both how office workers take up their attitudes of Socio-psychological point according to the office type and what they claim for their office environment. This understanding offers us fundamental data in office plan. This paper starting from this purpose got the following conclusions. *Office workers are violated their hearing privacies rather than their visual privacies. They are dissatisfied with ensuring their own spaces and satisfied with their nature of domain. *In the feeling of satisfaction by office type, they are on the whole satisfied with their hearing privacies, their visual privacies, their own space, and the nature of do-main in the closed type and mixed type offices. In open type offices, their visual privacy is often violated. *In the property by individual, men feel more violated their hearing privacies than women. In the personal spa-se and domain, women are less stabilized psycholo-gically than men. *The analysis of the attitude by position, a man of po-sition is more violated his hearing privacy and does not understand each other. The common run of workers are violated their visual privacies and the nature of separa-tion.
This study was carried out to find out stress-eating relationship in obese high school girls and to investigate the factors related to stress-induced eating. The conceptual framework used in this study was individual difference model. The research method was methodological triangulation. The data of the study were collected from purposively sampled 309 normal high school girls and 314 obese high school girls in S city. 15 volunteers, obese high school girls, enrolled in this qualitative research. Quantitative data was collected from May 6 to June 10, 1997 through questionnaires about stress and stress-related eating changes and from June 23 to August 26, 1997, qualitative data was collected. The results of the study were as follows : 1. Obese high school girls were unaffected by stress(t=-1.84, p=0.0662). 2. Through quantitative analysis, obese people divided into two groups in their response to stress. One group was composed of stress- eater. The other group was composed of non- stress eater. 3. Disinhibition(t=-3.1275, p=0.0019), cognitive restrain (t=-3.1597, p=0.0017), hunger(t=-3.5878, p=0.0004) were significantly different between stress-eaters and non-stress eaters. 4. According to the interview, 5 subjects of obese girls were stress eaters, and 10 subjects were non-stress eaters. Through qualitative research, the related factors of eating were eating attitude & behavior, stimuli situations on eating, and personality. In stress-eater group, they constantly went on a diet, however, they were prompted to eat when an uneasy feeling such as anxiety, depression, annoyance developed. Their personality were entirely optimistic. Whereas non-stress eater group had no interest in diet and didn't appear to have psychological factors to stimulate eating in stressful situations. Their personality was not only optimistic but also keenly characteristic. 5. To compare obese-normal high school girls on the effect of stress in eating. Normal weigh high school girls decreased their eating when stressed(t= -13.62, p=0.0001). In conclusion, this study suggests that there are two different groups in obese high school girls in regards to eating responses on stressful situations. As a result of these finding, clinical and school nurses can detect the stress-eaters who need stress management intervention, and can apply appropriate management program according to the individual needs.
For the purpose of turning learners' locus of control into internal-controllable variables, counseling materials were developed, and attribution counseling was given. The counseling effects were practically confirmed by way of teaching and evaluation in the actual classes, and furthermore the efforts to provide learners with successful experiences in learning were repeatedly made. As a result, the conclusions are as follows: 1. The procedure of Individual counseling for learning attribution based on individual standard grades and data of the variable order of merit apparently shows learners that if learners are to try their best in learning, they will surely go far in terms of learning in the near future. 2. The procedure of Individual counseling for teaming attribution based on achievement distribution in individual behavior-oriented fields suggests to learners that how to learn is as important as how much effort they make. Surely enough, learners are required to make more effective and efficient efforts, considering their own learning abilities. 3. With the above 1, 2 procedures involved, learners have attributed locus of causality in achievement to their internal-controllable causes. 4. With preparatory assignments according to learner's abilities provided, even slower learners came to be assured that their constant efforts could give rise to success in learning achievement. 5. Above all, it was confirmed that the learners' struggling attitude might well have a significant correlation with achievement success. The learners who are willing to attribute locus of causality in achievement to their internal-controllable causes or strenuous efforts and intrinsic motivation tend to be convinced that they can address themselves to whatever faces them, so they can set up specific learning goals fit for their abilities. Accordingly, they will bit by bit acquire successful experiences (often called 'Aha' experiences) and in turn, feeling the senses of self-efficacy and self-esteem enough to push their efforts even further, they can grow to form a positive self-concept. With one successful experience after another fed back into learners, they are gradually motivated to bring the oncoming achievement expectation to a higher level. To conclude, it is necessary that instruction leading to internal-controllable attribution should be provided, inducing learners to recognize success and failure in learning achievement as a result of their strenuous efforts.
