  • Ionizers are essential in various areas of manufacturing industries to protect electrostatic hazards and to reduce inferior products. For ion sources used in the charge neutralizers, there are corona discharge, soft X-ray, ultraviolet and glow discharge. Glow discharge has lots of attractive properties, such as lower discharge sustaining voltage, no generation of ozone, and so on. In this paper, we did an experimental study to trace the mechanism and stabilization of atmospheric pressure glow discharge using the several size and shape of electrodes. As an experimental result, to sustain conditions of atmospheric pressure glow discharge is that discharge voltage is 360V, discharge current is 12mA, apply frequency is 1kHz between electrodes when positive electrode is molybdenum(Mo) and negative electrode is copper(Cu). We confirmed that the mechanism and stabilization of atmospheric glow discharge is deeply concerned with the shape and material of electrode for discharge. Especially, glow discharge in atmospheric pressure was well generated and sustained according with the physical properties used electrode materials, example melting point, thermal conductivity, and etc.

  • Meteo-tsunamis are tsunamis that are typically caused by strong atmospheric instability (e.g., pressure jumps) in low pressure systems, but some meteo-tsunamis in winter can be caused by local atmospheric instability in high pressure systems (e.g., the Siberian High). In this study, we investigated a meteo-tsunami event related to a high pressure system that occurred during winter on the Yellow Sea in 2005. Sea level data from tidal stations were analyed with a high-pass filter, and we also performed synoptic weather analyses by using various synoptic weather data (e.g., surface weather charts) collected during the winter season(DJF) of 2005. A numerical weather model (WRF) was used to analyze the atmospheric instability on the day of the selected event (21 Dec. 2005). On the basis of the results, we suggest that the meteo-tsunami triggered by the high pressure system occurred because of dynamic atmospheric instability induced by the expansion and contraction of the Siberian High.

  • This study investigates the relationship between environmental factors, such as semilunar rhythm and atmospheric pressure, and the release of Marphysa sanguinea larvae. During artificial seed production in a temperature-regulated culture system, there was an increase in the number of released larvae at tide times between 3-4 and 9-11. Numbers of larvae released were significantly correlated with tidal rhythms. Atmospheric pressure also appeared to influence larval release, with increased numbers released when a period of high atmospheric pressure followed a period of low pressure.

  • The purpose of this study is to inquire into the effects of teaching methods in the class on the conceptual change of atmospheric pressure for middle school students. After analyzing the concept of atmospheric pressure in the middle school science textbooks on the present 7th Curriculum, classes were performed adopting classified Method A and Method 3. For Method A, the textbook is used to explain the concept in the view of weight. For Method B, the textbook is used to approach the concept in the views of molecular movement as well as of weight. This study consists of four classes in the third grade students of middle school in Busan, where they were divided into the Method A group and the Method B group. These study was carried out with pre-post on each of these classes on the learning achievement and on the conceptual change of atmospheric pressure. The results of this study were as follows: First, the effect on the learning achievement was displayed the average score of the Method B was showing a meaningful difference comparing to the Method A. Second, the effect on the conceptual change measured by verifying the score for the difference among the averages for each sub-scale three out of four conceptual factors,'the direction of atmospheric influence and the reason','the principle of atmospheric action' and 'the atmospheric changes by the temperature rise on the surface of the earth and the reason', showed meaningful improvement. But, the one left factor,'the distribution of atmospheric pressure by altitudes and the reason', displayed no meaningful difference. Third, The concept of atmospheric pressure is better defined as the pressure created by the movement of air particles, in the view of kinetic theory of gas, rather than explained by the notion of the weight of air.

따라서, 본 연구에서는 atmospheric pressure plasma cleaning 과 low pressure i inductively coupled plasma (ICP) cleaning 처리에 의하여, 보호층으로 사용이 되는 MgO layer의 outgassing 특성을 조사하고자 한다. plasma cleaning에 의한 MgO layer 표면의 roughness와 불순물의 변화를 알아보기 위 하여 atomic force microscopy(AFM)과 x-ray p photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)를 이용하여 측정 하였다. 또한, outgassing의 특성을 분석하기 위하여 MgO layer를 $400^{\circ}C$ 까지 온도를 가하여 온도에 따른 outgassing의 특성을 quadrupole mass spectrometer(QMS)를 이용하여 알아보았다. atmospheric pressure plasma cleaning 에서는 $He/O_2/Ar/N_2$의 gas를 사용하였으며, low pressure ICP cleaning 에 서는 Ar의 gas를 사용하였다. atmospheric pressure plasma cleaning는 low pressure ICP C cleaning과 비교해 더 낮은 outgassing을 관잘 할 수 있었으나.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the types of concepts about atmospheric pressure of middle school students and to design a new method to improve students' understandings on atmospheric pressure. The second grade students of the middle school has been selected and examined their pre-concepts on atmospheric pressure through questionnaires and interviews. Two groups of students have been taught using the second grade science textbooks and experimental methods designed from this study, respectively. The results suggest that we need to develope various teaching methods that can improve alternative concept as well as experimental tools that can help students understand difficult scientific concepts. The reason is that once alternative concept is occupied, it is extremely difficult to fix it. In addition, the proposed experimental methods are effective in establishing the concept and understanding on atmospheric pressure.

  • Nitrite is an essential additive for cured meat product. Plasma is ionized gas and reactive nitrogen species in plasma can be infused into meat batter and subsequently generate nitrites by reaction with water molecules after plasma treatment. However, the increase of nitrite in meat batter is limited with direct treatment of atmospheric pressure cold plasma because of the increase of meat batter temperature. Therefore, this study investigated the influence of indirect treatment of atmospheric pressure cold plasma on the physicochemical properties of meat batter. Meat batter was indirectly treated with plasma at 1.5 kW for 60 min. The pH of meat batter decreased while the temperature increased with plasma treatment time. The total aerobic bacterial count of meat batter was not affected by plasma treatment. The nitrite content of meat batter was increased to 377.68 mg/kg after 60 min of plasma treatment. The residual nitrite content of cooked meat batter also increased with plasma treatment time. The CIE $a^*$-value of cooked meat batter increased. As plasma treatment time increased, lipid oxidation tended to increase and protein oxidation significantly increased. According to these results, the indirect treatment of atmospheric pressure cold plasma can be used as a new curing method for replacing synthetic nitrite salts.
