The effects of sharpness of needle electode on the spark voltage in needle-plane and needle-needle spark gaps at atmospheric pressure was investigated experimentaly in this paper. As the sharpness of needle electrode increases, the spark voltage increases, and the rate of increase is greater in needle-needle electrode than in needle-plane gap. the effects of sharpness is greater in small gap length. These characteristics can be explained by the electric field strength at the needle tip depending on the sharpness of needle, electro-static capacity between the electrodes, and the polarity effect in needle-plane gap. These experimental results will be able to play an important roles on the design of needle-needle gap as high voltage measurement devices and of needle-plane gap as high voltage rectifier equipments.
Polyester cord yarns have been treated in an atmospheric-pressure nitrogen plasma reactor in order to enhance their adhesion to rubber. A thin layer or the plasma was generated in the close vicinity of the yam surface using various types or surface discharge. To assess the effect of the plasma treatment on fiber surface properties, the cord thread/rubber matrix adhesion values measured using the untreated and threads cord threads were compared. The static and dynamic adhesion of the cord thread to rubber was characterized by using the standard Henley test. The dynamic adhesion values for the reference and plasma treated fiber were $7,3{\pm}1,2\;N$ and $83,5{\pm}3,5\;N$. The surface properties were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. It is concluded that both polar group interactions and increased surface area of the fibers are responsible for the improved adhesive strength.
Environmental conservation has become one of the greatest concerns of all the people in the world. This issue is related to wood utilization in two major view points such as carbon dioxide emitted by the use of manufacturing energy and absorbed during the growth of trees. Wood construction materials require less manufacturing energy, which, in turn, means less carbon dioxide emission. In addition, wood keeps absorbed carbon in itself as far as it is not burnt. Therefore, wood is environmentally superior to other materials in terms of potential effects on atmospheric carbon dioxide. As examples of the environmental effect of wood utilization, the following two results were obtained: 1) If wood construction becomes popular in Korea as in Japan, more than 24% of carbon dioxide emission during construction of residential housings can be reduced: and 2) If aluminum windows are substituted by wood windows, more than 19% of carbon dioxide emission can be reduced. If the principle of "cut and plant" is kept well, wood is the best construction material for environmental protection as well as human residence.
In this study, phosphosilicate glass(PSG) film was deposited by the oxidation of phosphine (PH3) and silane(SiH4) in nitrogen ambient with a conventional conveyerized Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition(APCVD)system and phosphorus concentration is measured by using FT-IR technique. The flow characteirstics and etch rate variations ofthe films, depending on phosphorus concentrations, are investigated. Special emphasis is focused on the yield variations of NMOS-based 256K DRAM with 1.2\ulcorner metallization spacing with increasing phosphorus concentrations. As a result, the data indicates that the fairly good yield can be obtained within the range of between 8 and 10wt% phosphorus concentration, which result in a slope of flow within 45\ulcorner10\ulcorner The analysi of failure mechanism is also accompanied.
In this paper, atmospheric turbulence and absorption under clear weather condition, which affect the optical satellite up-link communication between geo-satellites and earth station, were studied. In case of the up-link communication, the received optical power is weakened by pointing loss caused by beam tilt which is the main effect of turbulent atmosphere. This pointing loss directly has relation to the diameter of optical transmitting antenna. From the inverse proportion of the pointing and spaced loss, it is the regions where the diameter of transmitting antenna increases abruptly and the efficient design of transmitting antenna is impossible. In case of using channel coding, it was shown that the peak value of diameter moved to the lower regions of elevation angle with increasing the coding gain and its width was also decreased. In case of considering both coding gain and transmission rate on the design of transmitting antenna, it was known that more coding gain was necessary as transmission rate was increased.
Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were prepared by a sol-gel method. The structural and electrical properties were investigated by varying drying and annealing temperatures. The thin films were coated (250 nm) by spin-coating method on glass substrates. The optimum drying temperature of ZnO thin films was 300$^{\circ}C$ where the resistivity was the lowest and the preferred c-axis orientation was the highest. The annealing was carried out in air and inert atmospheric conditions. The degree of the preferred c-axis orientation was estimated. The highest preferred c-axis orientation was recorded at 600$^{\circ}C$. The preferred c-axis orientation and grain growth resulted in the mobility enhancement of the ZnO thin films, and the lowest resistivity was 0.62${\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ at 600$^{\circ}C$.
Effect of high-temperature annealing on morphology of fully coherent self-assembled InAs quantum dots' grown on Si (100) substrates at $450^{\circ}C$ by atmospheric pressure metalorganic chemical vapor deposition(APMOCVD) was investigated by atomic force microscopy(AFM). When the dots were annealed at 500 - 600$^{\circ}C$ for 15 sec - 60 min, there was no appreciable change in the dot density but the heights of the dots increased along with the reduction in the diameters. In segregation from the InAs quantum dots and/or from the 2-dimensional InAs wetting layer which was not transformed into quantum dots looked responsible for this change in the dot size. However the change rates remained almost same regardless of annealing time and temperature, which may indicate that the morphological change due to thermal annealing is done instantly when the dots are exposed to high temperature annealing.
Inhibition of propellant temperature rising in liquid propulsion rocket using cryogenic fluid as a propellant is very important. Especially propellant temperature rising during stand-by after filling and pre-pressurization can bring into cavitation in turbo-pump. One of the method preventing propellant temperature rising in cryogenic feeding system is recirculating propellant through the loop composed of propellant tank, feed pipe, and recirculation pipe. The circulation of propellant is promoted through gas-lift effect by gas injection to lower position of recirculation pipe. In this experiment liquid oxygen and gas helium is used as propellant and injection gas. Under atmospheric and pressurized tank ullage condition, helium injection flow-rate is varied to observe the variation of recirculating flow-rate and propellant temperature in the feed pipe. There is appropriate helium injection flow-rate for gas-lift recirculation system.
We have studied the fabrication self aligned atmospheric pressure(AP) CVD a-Si thin film transistor with source-drain ohmic contact by using ion shower doping method. The conductivity is 6*10$^{-2}$S/cm when the acceleration voltage, doping time and doping temperature are 6kV, 90s and 350.deg. C, respectively. We obtained the field effect mobility of 1.3cm$^{2}$/Vs and the threshold voltage of 7V.
Plasma surface coating is applied to the wood powder to improve its bonding and dispersion with the polypropylene(PP). Some mechanical test results and visual inspection indicates the good compatibility between the wood powder and the PP, and relatively good interfacial adhesion between wood powder and PP matrix was seen. Also, this method is considered as a non-toxic process as compared to other direct chemical method.
