  • The objective of this study was to suggest conducting a preliminary investigation into renaming the clinical laboratory science degree by comparing the names of this degree used in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. In Korea, students who graduate from clinical laboratory science departments at universities are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, a Bachelor of Science, or a Bachelor of Clinical Laboratory Science, while graduates of clinical laboratory science departments at colleges receive an Associate Degree in Health Science or an Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science and the Associate of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science are internationally accepted designations. They reflect the academic identity and professionalism of the occupation. The Bachelor of Science in Health Science and the Associate Degree in Health Science, being used by the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science in Korean schools, can be renamed to the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science and the Associate of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, uniform names, respectively, through the revision of the school regulations.

  • Purpose: This study was to compare the influencing factors of clinical competence between associate and bachelor nursing students completing nursing courses. Method: The subjects were 429 students completing the nursing courses (172 bachelor course students, and 257 associate course students). The study design was cross sectional. Results: Bachelor students showed a significant higher score in clinical competence than associate students. There were significant influencing factors on clinical competence including critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, communication skill, theoretical education satisfaction, and practice education satisfaction. The strongest factor influencing clinical competence was critical thinking disposition. All the factors mentioned above explained 49% of clinical competence in associate courses, and 40.0% in bachelor courses excluding the factor of practice education satisfaction. The level of theoretical and practice education satisfaction of bachelor courses was significantly lower than associate. Conclusion: It is recommended that associate course nursing students should be encouraged in critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, and communication skill. Bachelor course nursing students should be encouraged in practical education including practical environments, instruction methods, and content for improving clinical competence.

  • Partially balanced diallel cross designs with m-associate classes are defined and two general methods of construction are presented. Two-associate class designs based upon group divisible, triangular, and extended group divisible association schemes obtained using the general methods are also given. Tables of designs for p$\leq$24 are also provided.

  • In this paper, partial diallel crosses designs are proposed. These designs for estimating general combining abilities are constructed by using m-associate class partially balanced incomplete block designs. Also, the efficiency of the partially diallel crosses designs obtained through this method is reported in table.

  • In this paper, we are to address the problem of item recommendations to users in shopping malls selling several different kinds of items, e.g., daily necessities such as cosmetics, detergent, and food ingredients. Most of current recommendation algorithms are developed for sites selling only one kind of items, e.g., music or movies. To devise efficient recommendation algorithms suitable for repetitively purchasing items, we give a method to implicitly assign ratings for these items by making use of repetitive purchase counts, and then use these ratings for the purpose of recommendation prediction with the help of user-based collaborative filtering and item-based collaborative filtering algorithms. We also propose associate item-based recommendation algorithm. Items are called associate items if they are frequently bought by users at the same time. If a user is to buy some item, it is reasonable to recommend some of its associate items. We implement user-based (item-based) collaborative filtering algorithm and associate item-based algorithm, and compare these three algorithms in view of the recommendation hit ratio, prediction performance, and recommendation coverage, along with computation time.

  • We suggest a quantitative conditional unrelated question model that can be used in obtaining more sensitive information. For whom say "yes" about the less 7han sensitive question .B we ask only about the more sensitive variable X. We extend our model to two sample case when there is no information about the true mean of the unrelated variable Y. Finally we compare the efficiency of our model with that of Greenberg et al.′s.

  • We propose a line process for edge detection which is easy to implement foe Bayesian image restoration. Comparisons are made between the proposed method and the method suggesed by Geman and Geman (1984) in two cases, simple image and complicated image. We show that the proposed method improve images mainly at the edges.

  • This descriptive study was done to investigate the critical thinking ability of senior nursing students in two types of nursing education programs : associate and baccalaureate programs. Data were conveniently collected from 159 associate degree nursing (ADN)students and 158 baccalaureate degree nursing(BSN)students. All schools were the Ministry of Education accredited and located in Seoul City and Kyung gi Province. These data were collected by self reporting questionaire given over two months from March to May, 1995. The subjects completed the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (WGCTA) and a demographic questionnaire. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and t-test with the SAS program. The results of this study are as follows 1. The mean of critical thinking ability of the ADN students was 42.69. 2. The mean of critical thinking ability of the BSN students was 47.68. 3. There was significant difference in the WGCTA scores between the ADN and the BSN students (t=7.38 p<0.001) 4. This study suggests that critical thinking ability may increase with higher levels of nursing education. Possible explanations for these findings are discussed.
