This work presents the Thermal Hydraulic analysis has been performed for a 19-pin wire-spacer fuel assembly using three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. SST model is used as a turbulence closure. The whole fuel assembly has been analyzed for one period of the wire-spacer using periodic boundary condition at inlet and outlet of the calculation domain. The overall results far a preliminary calculation show a good agreement with the experimental observations. It has been found that the major unidirectional flows are the axial velocity in sub-channels and the peripheral sweeping flows and the velocities are found to be following a cyclic path of period equal to the wire-wrap pitch. The temperature is found to be maximum in the central region and also, there exist a radial temperature gradient between the fuel rods. The major advantage of performing this kind of analysis is the prediction of thermal-hydraulic behavior of a fuel assembly with much ease.

The top and bottom nozzles of PWR fuel assembly are connected by guide thimbles and an instrumentation tube that are connected with spacer grids. The fuel rods are inserted into the each cell of spacer grids. The loads acting on the fuel assembly are transmitted to the guide thimbles through the flow plate of top nozzle The axial loads applied to the fuel assembly are not equally distributed among the guide thimble due to the geometry of the top nozzle flow plate and spacer grid. In this study, the load concentration factors for the $17\times17$ fuel assembly were calculated. The analytical model fur the calculation of the load concentration factor of top nozzle flow plate was developed using ANSYS 5.6. The finite element analyses were performed using the model composed of top nozzle, guide thimble, and spacer grid. And, the analysis results were compared with the test results.
A spacer grid is one of the most important structural components in a LWR nuclear fuel assembly. The primary considerations are to provide a Zircaloy spacer grid with crush strength sufficient to resist design basis loads, without significantly increasing pressure drop across the reactor core. In this study, the dynamic crush strength analysis and test are carried out for the specimens of a spacer grid assembly.

A reactor vessel internals comprehensive vibration assessment program (RVI CVAP) of an advanced power reactor 1400 (APR1400) is being performed as a non-prototype category-2 type of reactor based on the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide (NRC RG) 1.20. The aim of this paper is to present the results of structural response analysis and measuring locations of a upper guide structure (UGS) assembly of the APR1400 reactor. The analysis results of the UGS assembly results show that meet the specified integrity levels of the design acceptance criteria. Also, the measuring locations are set by the analysis results of the UGS assembly and selection criteria of measuring locations prior to this study. These analysis results and measuring locations will be used as fundamental materials to design a measurement system for the APR1400 RVI CVAP.

A capacity calculation and process analysis is a very important part for the entire ship production planning. Ship's production plan is set up with a concept that the product is produced based on the capacity achievable by the processes while general manufacturing sets up the production plan based on product lead-time. Therefore, in case the calculation of capacity for each process of shipbuilding yard is different from actual conditions, a series of production plan - ship table composition, dual schedule plan and execution schedule plan, etc - may accumulate errors, lose reliability of planning information and cause heavy cost deficit in this course. In particular, in case of new shipbuilding yard, stocks between processes are built up and half blocks are not supplied in timely manner, and that is sometimes due to the clumsiness of the operator but it is more often because of the capacity to execute each process is not logically calculated. Therefore, this paper presents the process to calculate the assembly leadtime and assembly process capacity for shipbuilding yard assembly factory. This paper calculated the block type for calculation of assembly lead time based on block DAP(detailed assembly procedure), and introduced cases that calculate production capacities by assembly surface plate by considering the surface plate occupied area of the blocks that change depending on assembly field area and assembly processes through assembly simulation.

A general and efficient methodology has been developed to analyze dimensional variations of an assembly, taking into account of weld distortion. Weld distortion is generally probabilistic because of the random nature of welding parameters such as the welding speed, maximum welding temperature, ambient temperature, etc. The methodology is illustrated through a very simple example of two perpendicular plates fillet-welded to each other. Two steps comprise the methodology: establishment of a weld-distortion database, and tolerance analysis using the database. To establish the database, thermo-elasto-plastic finite element analyses are conducted to compute the weld distortion for all combinations of discrete values of major welding parameters. In the second step of tolerance analysis, the weld distortion retrieved from the database is used in addition to the dimensional tolerances of the parts. As a result of such an analysis, sensitivities of the assembly's dimensional variations to the part tolerances and weld distortion are obtained, which can be help improve the dimensional quality of the assembly.

Since spent nuclear fuel assemblies (SFA) are transported to interim storage or final disposal facility after cooling the decay heat, finite element analysis (FEA) with simplification is widely used to show their integrity against cladding failure to cause dispersal of radioactive material. However, there is a lack of research addressing the comprehensive impact of shape and element simplification on analysis results. In this study, for the optimization of a typical pressurized water reactor SFA, different types of finite element models were generated by changing number of fuel rods, fuel rod element type and assembly length. A series of FEA in use of these different models were conducted under a shock load data obtained from surrogate fuel assembly transportation test. Effects of number of fuel rods, element type and length of assembly were also analyzed, which shows that the element type of fuel rod mainly affected on cladding strain. Finally, an optimal finite element model was determined for other practical application in the future.

For successful assembly of flexible parts, informations about their deformation as well as possible misalignments between the holes and their mating parts are essential. Such informations can be acquired from visual sensors. For robotic assembly, the corrective assembly motion to compensate for such misalignments has to be determined from the measured informations. However, this may not be simply derived from the measured misalignment alone because the part deformation progressively occurs during misalignment compensation. Based on the analysis of flexible parts assembly process, this paper presents a neural net-based inference system that can infer the complex relationship between the corrective motion and the measured information of parts deformation and misalignments. And it verifies the performance of the implemented inference system. The results show that the proposed neural net-based misalignment compensation algorithm Is effective in compensating for the lateral misalignment, and that it can be extended to the assembly tasks under more general conditions.

This paper describes the analysis of state when load applies to McPherson strut assembly. Strut assembly except knuckle-arm are created with 3 dimensional modeling program. Stress and structural strength on this model are analyzed by analysis program as load applies on the lower part of assembly modeling. When McPherson suspension is applied with 3000N at Z direction, maximum stress at spring becomes 433MPa and the cycle of minimum life is 4321. The designed modeling suspension at this study has no possibility with resonance.
The MATRA-LMR code has been developed based on a subchannel analysis method for LMR (Liquid Metal Reactor) core subassembly thermal hydraulic design and analysis. The code was improved to allow a seven assembly calculation and can account for inter-assembly heat transfer based on a lumped parameter model. This paper describes the main modifications and improvements of the code and shows reference calculation results which compared single assembly calculation with seven assembly calculation cased for driver and blanket subassemblies of the KALIMER 150 MWe breakeven conceptual design core. KAL- IMER is a pool-type sodium cooled reactor with a thermal output of 392.0 MWth, which have inherently safe, environmentally friendly, proliferation-resistant and economically viable reactor concepts.
