In road pavements, it is known that cement concrete pavement has superior durability, safety in compared with asphalt concrete pavement. But in reparing pavement cement concrete pavement is not usually applied because of the length of time while the road is interrupted when using Ordinary and Rapid-hardening Portland Cement. And Super High Early Strength Cement and Ultra Super High Early Strength Cement are not favorable for ready mixied concrete because of rapid setting time, high slump loss and other restrictions. We aim to develope specific cement and concrete developing 1 day strength of over 300 kg/$cm^{2}$ to open the road within one day and workable time is maintained over 1 hour that can be used as ready mixed concrete. In this study, we Produced cement using rapid-hardening cement, Hauyne clinker, anhydride gypsum and accelerator and studied on its properties. The concrete strength was over 300 kg/$cm^{2}$ at 1 day and 550 kg/$cm^{2}$ at 28 day and workable time was maintained for over 1 hour.

There are various test methods for evaluating the reflective cracking resistance of asphalt concrete pavement. Repeated direct tensile test is cheap and simple compared to the other traditional experimental methods. Determination of failure criteria is needed to apply a repeated direct tensile test. Various methods were used to determine the number of failure of repeated direct tensile test. The number of failure was defined as the time to reach 10% of the initial load, this method can be satisfied with specified tolerance of 10%. When the thickness of specimen is increased to 50 mm from 30 mm, the failure number is increased by 13.6 times. Thus, this result shows that the thickness of pavement is a big influence on the reflective cracking resistance. Reflective cracking resistance of asphalt concrete is decreased according to the increase in opening displacement. The repeated direct tensile test can be used as a reflective cracking resistance factor in pavement design, because it can evaluate the reflective cracking resistance according to the pavement thickness, opening displacement, material properties etc.
OBJECTIVES : The objective of this research is to determine the integrity of pavement structures for areas where voids exist. Furthermore, we conducted the study of voided-area analysis and remaining life prediction for pavement structures using finite element method. METHODS : To determine the remaining life of the existing voided areas under asphalt concrete pavements, field and falling weight deflectometer (FWD) tests were conducted. Comparison methods were used to have better accuracy in the finite element method (FEM) analysis compared to the measured surface displacements due to the loaded trucks. In addition, the modeled FEM used in this study was compared with well-known software programs. RESULTS : The results show that a good agreement on the analyzed and measured displacements can be obtained through comparisons of the surface displacement due to loaded trucks. Furthermore, the modeled FEM program was compared with the available pavement-structure software programs, resulting in the same values of tensile strains in terms of the thickness of asphalt concrete layers. CONCLUSIONS : The study, which is related to voided-area analysis and remaining life prediction using FEM for pavement structures, was successfully conducted based on the comparison between our methods and the sinkhole grade used in Japan.
In order to investigate the basic performance of the high strength anchor for asphalt road subjected to tensile load, the static pullout test was carried out and the pullout strength of the asphalt anchor was analyzed. In the pullout test, the depth of anchor, depth of pavement, diameter of anchor, type of anchor, experimental temperature, epoxy type and amount of anchor were used as test variables. As a result, the steel strength of asphalt anchor was 1.08 times higher than that of conventional concrete anchor, therefore it is considered appropriate to use the steel strength formula of concrete anchor for asphalt anchor. Compared with the proposed formula, the pullout load obtained from the test of the asphalt anchor was within ${\pm}10%$. The ratio of the projected area of the asphalt anchor is similar as that of the concrete anchor.

PURPOSES : Reflection cracking has been one of the major causes of distress when asphalt pavement is laid on top of concrete pavement. This study evaluated the reflection cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures reinforced with asphalt embedded glass fiber and carbon fiber using a Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) overlay tester. METHODS : Different asphalt mixtures such as polymer-modified mastic asphalt (PSMA) and a dense graded asphalt mixture were reinforced with asphalt-embedded carbon fiber and glass fiber. For comparison purposes, two PSMA asphalt mixtures and one dense graded asphalt mixture were evaluated without fiber reinforcement. Two different overlay test modes, the repeated overlay test (R-OT) and monotonic overlay test (M-OT), were used to evaluate the reflection cracking resistance of asphalt mixtures at $0^{\circ}C$. In the R-OT test, the number of repeated load when the specimen failed was obtained. In the M-OT test, the tensile strength at the peak load and tensile strain were obtained. RESULTS : As expected, the fiber-reinforced asphalt mixture showed a higher reflection cracking resistance than the conventional nonreinforced asphalt mixtures based on the R-OT test and M-OT test. The dense graded asphalt mixture showed the least reflection cracking resistance and less resistance than the PSMA. CONCLUSIONS : The TTI overlay tester could be used to differentiate the reflection cracking resistance values of asphalt mixtures. Based on the R-OT and M-OT results, the carbon-fiber-reinforced asphalt mixture showed the highest reflection cracking resistance among the nonreinforced asphalt mixtures and glass-fiber-reinforced asphalt mixture.

This study is a fundamental research for recycling waste vinyl in asphalt concrete mixture for roadway pavement. The mixing method and proper content of waste polyethylene(PE) film were determined through preliminary mix design. This study was performed mix designs using 2 type graduations of aggregate and used two types waste PE film. The asphalt concrete mixture was satisfied with the specification of the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Its showed that dense grade asphalt concrete mixture containing waste vinyl were higher performance in comparision to other mixtures(common dense grade mixture and gap grade mixtures). From results of this study, it was confirmed that addition of waste vinyl improved on quality of asphalt concrete mixture.

Many structural evaluation procedures of road and airfield pavements use the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) as a critical element of non-destructive deflection testing. FWD is a trailer mounted device that provides accurate data on pavement response to dynamic wheel loads. A dynamic load is generated by dropping a mass from a variable height onto a loading plate. The magnitude of the load and the pavement deflection are measured by a load celt and geophones. And database concerning pavement damage should be enhanced to analyze loss of thickness asphalt layer caused from the plastic deformation of pavement structure, such as cracking or rutting. The prototype FWD is developed, which consists of chassis system, hydraulic loading system, data acquisition and analysis system. This system subsequently merged to from automation management system and is then validated and updated to produce a working FWD which can actually be used in the field.

In this paper, actual bridges constructed with SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) deck pavement and virtual bridges substituted the deck pavement with polymer concrete under the same conditions were statically analyzed to investigate applicability of the thin polymer concrete bridge deck pavements. PSC (prestressed Concrete) girder bridge, steel box girder bridge, PSC box girder bridge, and RC (Reinforced Concrete) rahmen bridge constructed with the SMA deck pavement were analyzed and compared to evaluate various types of the bridge. The bridge deck and pavement were assumed to be fully bonded and the stress and deformation during the construction were ignored while those due to pavement weight and vehicle loading were analyzed. According to the analysis results, the stress and deformation of the bridges using the polymer concrete due to the pavement weight were smaller than those using the SMA because of smaller self weight due to lighter unit weight and thinner thickness of the pavement. The stress and deformation of the bridges using the polymer concrete due to the vehicle loading were larger than those using the SMA because of the smaller area moment of inertia due to the thinner pavement thickness. In case that the pavement weight and vehicle loading applied simultaneously, the stress and deformation of the bridges using the polymer concrete were smaller because effect of self weight reduction was more dominant. Investigation of performance of the bridge deck pavement and analysis of economical efficiency are warranted.

Failure criteria for asphalt concrete pavements are developed combining the AASHTO design equation and the multi-layered elastic theory. Thickness range including typical layer thicknesses of four-layer Korea highway structures are employed for pavement structure models. Total of 2430 pavement models with different layer thicknesses and moduli are analyzed. Models with crushed stone and asphalt stabilized base courses are equally included in the analysis. Number of load repetition and the maximum tensile strain at the bottom of asphalt layer are computed from the AASHTO design equation with terminal PSI=2.5 and multi-layered elastic computer program, SINELA, respectively. Failure criteria are developed through the regression analysis. From the analysis, failure criteria for the asphalt concrete pavements with 50% and 95% reliability levels are developed. It is found that the failure criterion of 95% reliability level gives similar results with existing fatigue failure criteria whose terminal performance condition is crack development when compared in a graphical form an equation to estimate failure criterion for a specific reliability level is also proposed.

In Korea, the temperature of winter seasons are really severe and cause lot's of snow-falling and iceing in the pavements. Several de-iceing mehtod have generally been adopted to melt the ice on the surface of pavement. Therefore, the Study of experimental in the first stage was given to the verification of the icers's effects. First, Contrete and asphalt pavement specimens were made and scattered with a CaC2-deicers. then 3cm and 5cm thickness of artificial snow were prepared on the surface of specimens. It reveals that the early calorification due to de- icers as high as the temperature of laboratory increases within about 10 minutes and last for more then 2 hours and the test of ice-formation on the surface of contrete and asphalt specimen due to snow leads to the similar rate of freezing time about 20 minutes. Second, three kinds of de-icers, such as CaC2 CaC2+Nacl, Cacl Flaket are rested in the snowy highway to check the iceing-resistance. The CaC2 is proved to be the most effective de-icers so far.
