A Study of Lightning Impulse Operating Duty and Temperature Dependence of Series Gap Type Arrester (Series Gap Type 피뢰기의 뇌임펄스 동작책무 및 온도의존성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes lightning impulse operating duty performance and temperature dependence of series gap type for transmission line arresters. The ageing parameters of lightning arresters are impulse current, moisture ingress, temperature ageing and so on. Especially it is important to estimate the change of electrical characteristics by lightning impulse current. In the discharge withstand test, total energy applied to the ZnO arrester each time is 4/10 ${\mu}s$, 30 kA. and in the operating duty test, the arrester has passed the test if thermal stability is achieved, if the residual voltage measured before and after the test is not changed by more than 5 %, and after the test reveals no evidence of puncture, flashover or cracking of the ZnO block. As a results, the residual voltage was in the range of 17.2${\sim}$20.3 kV and ZnO block bear up against at 2 shot of series impulse current of 30 kA. Also it was so excellent that the mechanical destruction does not occur at the 2 groups of 5 impulses current of 2/20 ${\mu}s$ 10 kA. According to the tests, it is thought that the ZnO arrester shows good stability with impulse current test. and it was found that the ambient temperature is increased resistive leakage current was increased in the range 47.3${\sim}$167.4 ${\mu}A$.

  • The main functions of AC railroad vehicles arresters is to protect the main transformer from lightening impulse or switching impulse surge, then the MOV(metal oxide varistor) elements rated of 10kA is applied. The residual voltage and surge energy absorption are important parameters in designing arrester, these must be carefully decided with considering protecting level of impulse environment of system. The purpose of this study is to discuss the residual voltages and the energy absorption capability by impulse currents on MOV elements for railroad vehicles, and to introduce design factors which act as optimal protecting condition against impulse currents.

  • Transient in an electrical system are generated by lightning and switching. This paper presents analysis of switching and lightning surge, and means of limiting the voltage magnification transient for high voltage power systems by using EDSA's EMTAP software package. One means of limiting the voltage magnification transient is to convert the end-user power factor correction banks to harmonic filters. An inductance in series with the power factor correction bank was used to decrease the transient voltage at the customer bus to acceptable levees. The interception of the impulse from the phase wire is fairly straight forward by properly installed surge arresters. The simulation shows that the addition of the surge arrester at the customer location can achieve a substantial reduction of the transient magnitude.

  • In multi-ground distribution system, overhead ground wire and neutral wire are parallel connected to offer the electrical power energy and protect damage of lightning strokes. Therefore a case where the two wires become single wire, the power company can get the benefit such as installation cost saving and line fault protection by simplify of distribution line. In this paper we describe the result of impulse test in both system ; one is the present power system the other is unified power system parallel connected overhead ground wire and neutral wire. As a result of this impulse test, the present power system get lower impulse voltage than the unified power system.

  • 국내 배전선로에서는 1999년부터 폴리머피뢰기를 설치하여 운영하고 있으나, 이들의 열화특성에 관한 데이터와 적합한 평가방법이 부족하여 장기적인 운영계획 수립이 어려운 상태이다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 폴리머피뢰기의 현장 열화인자를 인가할 수 있는 복합가속열화 시험장치를 제작하고 국내 환경조건을 모의할 수 있는 시험주기를 개발하여 폴리머피뢰기 완제품에 대한 장기신뢰성 평가법을 제안하였다. 그리고 가속열화시험 및 현장설치에 의한 전기적, 화학적 특성변화를 분석하여 폴리머피뢰기의 열화정도를 평가함으로써 본 연구에서 제안한 평가기법의 실효성을 검증하고 국산 폴리머피뢰기의 유지보수에 필요한 특성 데이터를 제시하였다.

  • According to some statistics, about 13,000 passenger aircrafts are daily flying over the globe and these aircrafts are struck by a lightning flash at least once a year. But so far we have never heard lightning injured any passengers and crew members got shocked by lightning. The aircraft, lightning and the sky are inseparably related to each other. Accordingly, the aircraft and lightning are also inseparably related to each other. They say lightning is easily attracted to metals and these aircrafts are incidentally made of metal. Aircraft become statically and electrically charged when flying because of the friction with air. A lot of research and investigation to protect aircraft from the influence of lightening have been made since the early days.   • 국내 배전계통에 90년대 말부터 설치된 폴리머피뢰기를 발취하여 신품과 비교 시험을 하였다. 시험결과 현장 경년품에서 부분방전, 내열화성 시험, 절연행거의 특성 시험 둥에서 다수의 시료가 불량한 결과를 나타냈다. 이러한 평가결과 국산 폴리머피뢰기의 품질이 안정화되지 않고 있어 배전계통의 신뢰성을 저하시킬 우려가 있다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 한전에서는 폴리머 피뢰기의 품질인증 기준을 강화하여 이를 구매규격서에 반영하였다.

  • Various deterioration diagnostic techniques and devices are suggested, and most of which measure leakage current components as an indicator of arrester ageing. However, the techniques based on the magnitude of leakage current measure simply RMS or peak value of leakage current components and do not provide detailed information needed in the diagnosis. In this study, we found that the phase vs. wave height of total leakage current is changed or a new wave height is produced with arrester ageing. To complete the new technique, we designed an arrester diagnostic device which is composed of a current detection circuit, an optical transmission circuit, and an analysis program. After measurement of the total leakage current, magnitudes, phase vs. wave height, and harmonics of the leakage current components are analyzed by the microprocessor based device. From the experimental results, we confirmed that the device can measure most parameters needed for the arrester diagnostics and analyze an initial deterioration state.

  • A program for numerical analysis of induced lightning surge is developed. The program first converts simultaneous differential equations into simultaneous difference equations for line sections without transition points, and calculates the line voltage and current by solving a determinant. It, then, calculates the line voltage and current at transition points by applying kirhhoffs law. This program is potentially useful in a wide range of applications for investigating the effect on distribution lines of lightning protection equipment such as lightning arresters and overhead ground wires.
