This study is an experimental study on the single group pre-post test design for the effects of the aroma inhalation method with roll-on on stress, pain, depression and blood pressure of the elderly. 33 elderly people who met the selection criteria participated among the elderly using the senior citizen clubs located in S city, Gyeonggi-do. The data collection period was from November 14, 2022 to December 19, 2022. A questionnaire consisting of stress, pain, depression, and blood pressure was measured before and after the aroma roll-on inhalation intervention. The components of aroma essential oil included Marjoram, Geranium, Peppermint and Orange sweet that were diluted in Jojoba oil which was the carrier oil. The aroma inhalation method with roll-on was carried out 3 times day for 4 weeks. In the result of this study, the aroma inhalation method with roll-on were statistically significant differences in stress(t=2.63, p=.013), pain(t=2.46, p=.019), and systolic blood pressure(t=3.01, p=.005) of the participants. Therefore, aroma roll-on therapy is expected to be available as a useful nursing intervention method for reducing stress, relieving pain, and managing blood pressure in the elderly using the senior citizen clubs.
The essential oil of Schizandrae Fructus was extracted by simultanous distillation-extraction and steam distillation and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The oil content of Schizandrae Frutus was 0.64% when extracted by steam distillation and 0.88% in case of simultanous distillation extraction and sensory analysis of the oil indicated woody, camphorous, spicy and sour characteristic notes. The experimental results confirmed the presence 47 volatile components, the major components were ${\gamma}-terpinene$, p-cymene, ${\alpha}-ylangne$ and ${\beta}-elemene$. The oil was fractioned into ten fractions and 4 fraction of them have a good aroma character. The application of the oil showed the utilization possibility as flavoring materials for Korea tea.
The volatile flavor components were isolated from the roots of Saussurea lappa C.B. Clarke produced in Korea and China by the hydro distillation, and were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). 63 aroma compounds representing 87.47% of the total peak area were tentatively identified, including 13 alcohols (22.56%), 26 hydrocarbons (21.78%), 4 aldehydes (21.24%), 11 ketones (18.04%), 1 oxide (0.52%), 3 esters (0.16%), 1 carboxylic acid (0.02%) and 4 miscellaneous components (3.15%). 46 volatile flavor components of imported S. lappa C.B. Clarke constituted 65.69% of the total volatile composition were tentatively characterized, consisting of 1 aldehyde (23.32%), 24 hydrocarbons (16.69%), 10 ketones (15.84%), 7 alcohols (8.92%), 1 oxide (0.83%), 2 esters (0.07%) and 1 acid (0.02%). The predominant components of both essential oils were (7Z,10Z,13Z)-7,10,13-hexadecatrienal and dehydrocostuslactone.
The objective of this study is to examine how different concentration of neurotransmitters in plasma between patients with dementia and normal people regarding the inhalation of lavender oil. This study subjects were 9 elderly patients with dementia who live in nursing home and 9 normal women. Before and after inhalation, they were collected blood sample. Norepinephrine (NE), serotonin (5-HT), dopamine (DA), and r-aminobutyric acid (GABA) concentration analysis were performed. Before inhalation, dementia patients were significantly different with the normal group in GABA and DA, NE. Following inhalation in experimental group, dementia patients and normal group were only significantly increased in 5-HT. But it did not significantly change in the other neurotransmitters. After inhalation, dementia patients were significantly different with the normal group in GABA and 5-HT. This result suggests that the increase of 5-HT release by the inhalation of lavender oil related to reduce the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.
This research applied Aromatherapy Foot Massage on Community elders and examined its effects on their chronic pain, sleep. The study subjects were 43 female elders in the community of including 22people for the experimental group and 21 for the control group. The aromatherapy was carried out 6times for 2weeks to the experimental group, 3times a week and 10minutes per session. The components of aroma essential oil included Chamomile roman, Lavender, Marjoram sweet, and Orange sweet that were diluted 20% into 100mL of Jojoba oil which was the carrier oil. The results, the experimental group that participated in the aromatherapy improved in chronic pain, quality of sleep, and the number of urination during sleep decreased compared to the control group. The research results demonstrated that due to the aroma foot massage, chronic pain decreased, sleep improved.
Flavor profiles on regular and low-calorie French type salad dressings were carried out in the two different temperatures(5$^{\circ}C$ and 25$^{\circ}C$). Data collected through consensus discussion. Panelists found less oil flavor and after-taste in the low-calorie dressing, which was to be expected, since water has been substituted for oil to reduce the calories. The two salad dressing had a moderate aroma and flavor of cider venegar, with a slight taste of distilled vinegar. It was balanced by a tomato flavor consisting of tomato paste, tomato sauce, and tomato juice. There were slight aroma and flavor of spices, including onion and galic, and a moderateamount of oil in the regular dressing. The overall sweet and sour flavor impression were in the low-moderate range, and were well balanced. The amplitude of the low calorie dressing was moderate, being slightly higher than that of the regular dressing. Temperature effects seemed to influence more one the low-calorie samples than regular samples.
Background and Objectives: Aroma therapy using Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil for curing allergic rhinitis is an inhalation treatment which has been applied as an aid to oriental clinics which use a fundamental treatment such as acupuncture and herbs. There have been no studies so far performed on the effect of this oils' use, only . We aimed to find out the therapeutic effect of its exclusive use only on an Animal Model with Allergic Rhinitis. Materials and Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were induced the allergic rhinitis by ovalbumin solution. And then, rats in the treated group were treated by diffusing Eucalyptus essential oil in a flask for 7 days. Compared with the treated group, rats in the control group were treated by diffusing normal saline in a flask for 7 days. We observed changes in glandular cells and mast cells in nasal mucosa and submucosa; also changes in the number of eosinophils and neutrophils in blood and the succus of rhinenchysis. Results: The number of neutrophils in the succus of rhinenchysis was significantly decreased in treated group compared with control group(p<0.05). The number of neutrophils in blood and mast cells in nasal mucosa were decreased in the treated group but, these were not significant statistically(p>0.05). Histologic changes showed edema; congestion and expansion of grandular cells in nasal submucosa and hypertrophy of epithelium in nasal mucosa were decreased in treated group compared with control group. Conclusions: The results may suggest that the inhalation treatment using Eucalyptus essential oil decreases the inflammatory response on an Animal Model with Allergic Rhinitis.

Nowadays Aromatherapy has been proved its own superiority and is getting popular for its specipic effects. Then, we can find some of aroma herbs are similar to those of Oriental medicine herbs. The purpose of this study was to identify the heating effect in Fennel essential oil on Aromatherapy, which is known for an effect of Hui-Hyang(Foeniculm vulgare) on Oriental medicine. We studied a patient who has visited Dongseo Oriental Hospital with Handam From November 29th 2001 to April 12th 2003 and has been observed for 5 months. We chose three spots in his body where the temperatures were lower than the other sides over $0.4^{\circ}C$. Then we treated him only with Fennel essential oil for 20 days. We used Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging to analyze the symptoms and assess the results of treatment. The results we obtained were as follows; 1. Fennel essential oil showed the heating effect at all the three spots on the Handam patient. 2. Fennel essential oil has the characteristics of Warmness and Heat in Oriental Medicine. 3. More studies are needed to analyze what kind of characteristics Other essential oils have by Oriental medical thought for better clinical use in Oriental Medicine.
The volatile components of umbelliferous herbs having a characteristic spicy aroma were investigated. The essential oils of herbs were isolated by simultaneous steam distillation and extraction and the volatile components were identified by capillary GC and GC/MS. Forty-nine volatile compounds were identified from the herbs. The major compounds of chervil (Anthricus cerefolium) leaf oil were methyl chavicol, 1-allyl-2,4-dimethoxy benzene, and of coriander (Coriandrum sativum) leaf oil were ${\beta}$-sesquiphellan drene, germacrene B, nerolidol, selinene-4-ol, and of coriander seed oil were linalool, decanal, ${\gamma}$-terpinene, $\rho$-cymene.
