A questionnaire on the soldiers smoking status and other various characteristics was obtained from October 2nd to 12th, 2000. Logistic regression analysis was performed on the various variables in order to determine the factors related to smoking. Results : 1) 830(80.3%) out of 1033 subjects had smoked cigarettes and 759 persons(73.4%) were regular smokers. 2) Among the 734 soldiers who started smoking before their military service, 714 soldiers(97.2%) continued to smoke after, while 45 soldiers(15.0%) among the 299 non-smokers started smoking after joining the army. 3) Through the logistic regression analysis. the education level. specialty in the army. smoking amongst the friends they met before military service, smoking amongst soldiers in the army. dating girl friends, drinking, satisfaction with their army lives and the presence of convenient smoking places at the barracks were significant factors related to the prevalence of smoking in soldiers. Conclusion : The factors related with incidence of smoking in the army are the complicated interactions among the individuals personal background, general characteristics of the soldier and the special environment in the barracks. Therefore, to improve national soldiers' health, an active non-smoking campaign and education should be pushed to discourage smoking in the barracks.

A total of 508 subjects were included in the final analysis. Collected data were analyzed by independent t-test. Results : The Internet addiction risk group (n=19, 3.7%) had significantly higher mean scores for obsessive-compulsion (t=-2.43, p=0.02) and interpersonal-sensitivity subscales (t=-2.30, p=0.03) than the control group. Conclusion : Internet addiction was related to soldiers' mental health. An assessment focused on internet use would be useful in the evaluation of a person potential adaptation to the military.

Background and objective: This study verified the physiological and psychological effects of plant fragrance therapy to analyze whether the therapy has a forest healing effect on maladjusted soldiers. Methods: This study was conducted from March 14 to May 31, 2020 according to the Green Camp curriculum for 2 weeks per recruit class. Thus, plant fragrance therapy was implemented twice each for three recruit classes. Each session of the program was carried out for 4 hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The venue was the garden within the camp and the forest nearby. Forest healing activities using plant fragrances were led by 1 forest education specialist and 1 assistant. The effects of plant fragrance therapy for maladjusted soldiers were analzed analyzed by quantifying physiological and psychological changes through measuring brain waves and stress levels before and after the therapy. Results: As a result of analyzing BRQ and SQ to determine the physiological and psychological healing effect of plant fragrance therapy, both the left and right brain showed higher BRQ and SQ after the therapy with statistical significance. This indicates that plant fragrance therapy on maladjusted soldiers helped positively stabilize their negative psychological and behavioral dispositions, and stabilization of brain waves lowered physical and mental stress and improved self-regulation and immunity. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in ATO. This is the result of analyzing the stress-coping mechanism. Troubleshooting (t = -2.702, df = 61, p = .009), emotional remission (t = -2.173, df = 61, p = .034), pursuit of help (t = -3.286), df = 61, p = .002), and wishful thinking (t = -3.714, df = 61, p < .001) showed statistically significant results. Conclusion: Applying plant fragrance therapy to maladjusted soldiers positively stabilized their negative psychological and behavioral dispositions and helped their self-regulation. Thus, plant fragrance therapy has psychological and physical forest healing effect on maladjusted soldiers.

This study examined the research trends with a focus on the academic papers released from 2010 to 2022 on multicultural soldiers policy. As a result of examining the current status by year, field, and research subject, research has been conducted since the revision of the Military Service Act that allowed young people from multicultural families to join the army, but not actively so. Research fields also diversified from the creation of the environment and preparation directions to policy proposals ahead of the first multicultural soldier's enlistment, but the need to expand the field of research has been identified. Lastly, research subjects ranged from executives to warriors, but most of them centered around inmates rather than multicultural soldiers. It is expected that the analysis results of this paper will play a positive role in setting future research directions for multicultural soldiers that are still in progress.

This study is aimed for emprical analyzing (1) the effects of leadership of army commanders on subordinates' job satisfaction and (2) the moderating effects of subordinates' active engagement within the relationship between commanders' transformational transactional leadership and job satisfaction of soldiers, while over 500 combat soldiers throughout the nation are questioned for this analysis. The followings are the summary of findings of this study. The first finding shows that both transformational and transactional leadership have positive impacts on the job satisfaction of the soldiers. In this context, it is recommended that army commanders should apply effectively these behaviors of leadership in order to achieve their goals in military organizations. The second sector of the analysis includes the moderating effect of subordinates' active engagement within the relationship between the commanders' leadership and job satisfaction of the soldiers. The finding of the second analysis shows that subordinates' active engagement has positive moderating effect on the relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction. However, it has no moderating effect on the relationship between transactional leadership and job satisfaction. This implies that army commanders should apply the behavioral factors of both leadership styles and encourage active engagement of soldiers in order to enhance the satisfaction of soldiers, focusing more on applying the behavioral factors of transformational leadership.

This qualitative research examined the experiences and patterns of military life of service maladaptive soldiers. The research site was the place where the soldiers of the A-adaptive soldiers' healing program were conducted, and the study period was conducted from September 2016 to December 2017. Maladaptive soldiers' military life experience pattern was analyzed, and their experience consisted of three domains (early domain after joining the army, middle domain after joining the army, and last domain where they failed to adapt themselves), five cultural themes, 12 categories, and 29 attributes. The cultural themes of maladaptive soldiers in their military life experiences were as follows: facing unfamiliar military culture, hardship, being left alone in a group, pain becoming unbearable, and the last choice of leaving a painful military life. Maladaptive soldiers attempted suicide after they failed to overcome the psychological pain, but they needed help during their early period of adaptation. Moreover, during their middle period of adaptation, they needed guidance for their immature coping strategies, and ultimately they had misperceptions about their death together with a pessimistic view about their life. These results are expected to be used as basic data for the development of mental nursing arbitration programs and suicide prevention projects to help service maladaptive soldiers.
