  • Modem standard CMOS process technology suffer from so large amount of PVT i.e process, voltage and temperature variation over 30% of its desired value that accurate resistor value is hard to be achieved. A filter using switched-capacitor(SC) circuit has a time constant proportional to relative capacitor area ratio rather than its absolute value. If the PLL's loop filter were made out of SC circuit, there could be much less PVT variation problem. Furthermore, programmability on the loop filter can be achieved In this paper, we present the PLL with SC loop filter. The accuracy provided by SC filter would be helpful to enhance PLL's locking behaviour.

A Miniaturized CMOS MMIC Bandpass Filter with Stable Center Frequency for 2GHz Application

  • A miniaturized CMOS bandpass filter for a single RF transceiver system is presented, using diagonally end-shorted coupled lines and lumped capacitors. In contrast to conventional miniaturized coupled line filters, it is proven that the effective permittivity variation of the coupled transmission line has no effect on shifting the center frequency when the bandpass filter is highly miniaturized. A bandpass filter at a center frequency of 2 GHz was fabricated by $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The insertion loss with the die area of $1500{\mu}m{\times}1000{\mu}m$ is -5.14 dB. Simulated results are well agreed with the easurements. It also verify the center frequency stability in the compact size bandpass filter.

  • In this paper a discrete extended Kalman filter for the tidal prediction has been developed. The filter is based on a set of difference equations derived from the one dimensional shallow water equations using the finite difference scheme proposed by Lax-Wendroff. The filter gives estimates of the water level and water velocity, together with the parameters in the model which essentially have a random character, e.g. bottom friction and wind stress. The estimates are propagated and updated by the filter when the physical circumstances change. The Kalman-filter is applied to field data gathered in the coastal area alon the West Sea and it is shown that the filter gives satisfactory results in forecasting the waterlevels during storm surge periods.

  • The demand of micro electrical mechanical system (MEMS) bio/chemical sensor is rapidly increasing. To prevent the contamination of sensing area, a filtration system is required in on-chip total analyzing MEMS bio/chemical sensor. A nano-filter was mainly applied in some application detecting submicron feature size bio/chemical products such as bacteria, fungi and so on. We suggested a simple nano-filter fabrication process based on replication process. The mother pattern was fabricated by holographic lithography and reactive ion etching process, and the replication process was carried out using polymer mold and UV-imprinting process. Finally the nano-filter is obtained after removing the replicated part of metal deposited replica. In this study, as a practical example of the suggested process, a nano-dot array was replicated to fabricate nano-filter fur bacteria sensor application.

  • This paper proposes a multimodal information transformation system that converts the image information to the voice information to provide the sight impaired people with walking area and obstacles, which are extracted by an acquired image from a single CCD camera. Using a chain-code line detection algorithm, the walking area is found from the vanishing point and boundary of a sidewalk on the edge image. And obstacles are detected by Gabor filter of extracting vertical lines on the walking area. The proposed system expresses the voice information of pre-defined sentences, consisting of template words which mean walking area and obstacles. The multi-modal information transformation system serves the useful voice information to the sight impaired that intend to reach their destination. The experiments of the proposed algorithm has been implemented on the indoor and outdoor environments, and verified its superiority to exactly provide walking parameters sentences.

  • Recently, CMOS RF integration has been widely explored in the wireless communication area to save cost, power, and chip area. The direct conversion architecture, rather than a more conventional super-het-erodyne, has been an attractive choice for single-chip integration because of its many advantages. However, the direct conversion architecture has several fundamental problems to solve in achieving performance comparable to a super-heterodyne counterpart. In this paper, we describe a programmable filter for mobile communication terminals using a direct conversion architecture. The proposed filter can be implemented with the active-RC filter and programmed to meet the requirements of different communication standards, including GSM, DECT and WCDMA. The filter can be tuned to select a detail frequency by changing the gate voltage of the MOS resistors. The gain of the proposed architecture can be programmed from 27dB to 72dB using the filter gain and VGA in 3dB steps.

  • An area efficient, low power switch-matrix semidigital FIR reconstruction filter for delta-sigma D/A converter is proposed. Filter coefficients are quantified to 7-bit and 7 current sources that correspond to each coefficient bit are used. The proposed semidigital FIR reconstruction filter is designed in a 0.25 um CMOS process and incorporates 1.5 mm$^{2}$ of active area and a power consumption is 3.8 mW at 2.5 V supply. The number of switching transistors is 1419 at 205 filter order. Simulation results show that the filter output has a dynamic range of 104 dB and 84 dB attenuation of out-of-band quantization noise.

  • Digital filters are indispensible element in digital signal processing area. The performance of digital filter based on adding and multiplying operation, such as computational speed and power consuming is determined by the orders and coefficients of filter which has on effect area of semiconductor chip when it is implemented by VLSI technology. In this research, in order to performance improvement of digital filter, we proposed the algorithm to speed-up the operation of digital filter associated with the minimum signed digit representation of binary number system and method to simplify the digital filter design associated with common subexpression elimination. The performance of proposed method is evaluated by the computational speed and design-simplicity by experimental implemented digital filter on FPGA.

Removal Efficiency of TSS Loadings from Expressway by Road Sweeping and Sand Filter Facility Using ROADMOD (ROADMOD를 이용한 도로청소 및 모래여과시설에 의한 고속도로에서의 강우시 TSS 저감효과 분석)

  • In this study, the removal efficiency of road sweeping and sand filter facility for removing total suspended solid (TSS) as nonpoint source pollution from expressway was evaluated for the last 10 years (2012~2021) using ROADMOD. ROADMOD is a screening level model and was calibrated for runoff rate and TSS loading both at the inlet, which is the loading from the drainage area, and the outlet, from the sand filter facility. The drainage area is 715 m2 and the dimensions of sand filter facility are 1.5 m (wide) × 3.8 m (length) × 1.5 m (depth). The monitoring period for model calibration was the rainfall event during Aug. 31~Sep. 1, 2021 and the amount of rainfall was 74.5 mm. As a result of calibration, the determination coefficients (R2) of the flow rate were 0.66 and 0.86, for the inlet and outlet, respectively, and those of TSS loading were 0.50 and 0.84, for the inlet and outlet, respectively. Considering that ROADMOD is a screening level model, the calibration results were reasonable to evaluate the best management practices (BMPs) on the expressway. Using ROADMOD simulation results for 2012~2021, the average yearly runoff rate from the expressway was 82% and removal efficiency was 9% for road sweeping, 35% for sand filter facility, and 39% for both road sweeping and sand filter facility.

  • A simple and effective filtering method to control the member size of an optimized structure is proposed for topology optimization. In the present approach, the original objective sensitivities are replaced with their relative values evaluated within a filtering area. By adjusting the size of the filtering area, the member size of an optimized structure or the level of its topological complexity can be controlled even within a given finite element mesh. In contrast to the checkerboard-free filter, the present filter focuses on high-frequency components of the sensitivities. Since the present filtering method does not add a penalty term to the objective function nor require additional constraints, it is not only efficient but also simple to implement. Mean compliance minimization and eigenfrequency maximization problems are considered to verify the effectiveness of the present approach.
