Recently, most of the construction companies is being degraded due to the overall construction recession profitability. Among them, order quantity of the architectural and engineering firms are trend to decrease except for large companies over a certain size. In particular, small companies are facing more difficulties. This study was conducted expert interview method to extract the main cause of profitability degradation of a small-sized design engineering companies. And, we are proposes a critical influence factors through survey about extracted factors. The results of this study are expect to help the competitiveness of architectural design firm.

This paper proposes how to design and implement data-driven strategies by investigating how a firm can increase its value using data science. Drawing on prior studies on architectural innovation, a behavioral theory of the firm, and the knowledge-based view of the firm as well as the analysis of field observations, the paper shows how data science is abused in dealing with meso-level data while it is underused in using macro-level and alternative data to accomplish machine-human teaming and risk management. The implications help us understand why some firms are better at drawing value from intangibles such as data, data-science capabilities, and routines and how to evaluate such capabilities.

In the architectural design industry recent BIM system was introduced to the vast amount of information generated by the process, who need it and require the need to manage the construction of information related to production, storage, delivery. In addition, for the project to perform the work involved collaboration between organizations is essential. The purpose of this study was to BIM standard for the system to effectively utilize BIM technology and development of the BIM business support collaboration system, to establish a BIM application environment, a variety of information in the field of architectural design that can be used practically efficient transcription.

This paper is a longitudinal study, comparing survey results between two time periods. A previous survey was conducted in 1999. After 10 years of the first survey, the second survey was conducted while utilizing the same questionnaire. A list of membership of Korea Institute of Heallthcare Architecture was used as a sampling frame. At the first survey in 1999, questionnaires of 27.3 percentage were returned, and 15.5 percentage in the 2008 survey. Healthcare design is one of the highly specialized design types in architecture. In addition, it is demanded highly specialized knowledge to solve healthcare design problems. As a professional service firm(PSF), architectural firm utilizes knowledge assets to provide design service to clients. Specialized knowledge in question is one of the core assets of PSF. The knowledge generates competitive advantages and plays an effective role as a marketing tool for PSF. However, empirical studies dealing with the knowledge characteristics of specialized design(healthcare) firms were hardly found. Thus, this study aims to trace the professional architects' perception of knowledge demands for task performance and architectural knowledge assets. The results can be used as a reference when a specialized firm in healthcare design initiates to build knowledge assets in it.
