A Study on The Structural Systems of Modern Architecture and Architectural Characteristics (근대건축의 구조시스템과 건축적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the structural system used in modern architecture and the form and spatial composition of the buildings. The principle in stabilization of structures is closely related to the architectural form. That is, in order to stabilize a building, a special type of structural system is required and consequently shows up with consistent characteristics in the architectural form. Modern architecture can be classified into skeleton structure, trusses structure, and space structure according to the structural characteristics. Skeleton structure is then divided into a perpendicular form and tapered form. Trusses structure is categorized as dome-shaped structure and slab-shaped structure, and space structure can be divided into compressible space structure and tensile space structure. When classifies the modern building with the aspect of architectural effect, there is a possibility of trying to divide with effect of production, and its expression. Effect of production mean structural system and effect of expression mean space and plan.

A Study on the architectural composition of Giorgio Grassi (죠르죠 그라씨 건축형태 구성원리에 관한 연구)

  • This study is purposed to find fundamental characteristics in Grassi's architecture which has architectural principles in architecture itself and in the general frame of the historical facts of architecture. His architectural theories can be explained for rationality, historicity, universality. The method of architectural composition can be divided into urban morphological characteristic and compositional characteristic of architecture. The characteristics of the former are the reconstruction of the urban structure by the readjustment of an urban axis which is based on historical continuity of the city, the open court which is a passage transformed from colonnade that is the historical vernacular type and the respect for the city-line which goes with historical context. The characteristics of the latter are the use transformed of nine square which gives consideration to centrality and typology at the same time and the hierarchic division of the principal space and the subordinate space for the functional typical purpose. This analysis shows that Grassi's architecture is on the base of historical continuity and urban reality and for him architectural work is mental work which conflict with the real world for the reconstruction of the city.

  • As construction projects become larger, process plans become more complex, and inadequate process management leads to waste of time and resources. Effective process management requires process management techniques that can identify problems inherent in the process, continuously improve, and reflect interdependent process characteristics. In the field, the day's details by work type and work status are to be entered in the work daily report. However, even when important information is written, it is not directly linked to the overall process management. This study aims to propose specific process management and decision-making plan based on actual worker by visualizing and quantifying the information described in the existing work daily report. It is expected efficient process management to increase reliability and productivity through process management, which can increase the utilization of work daily reports and facilitates organic communication among participants.

Type Classification of Contemporary Hanok -Focusing on Architects' Designs since 2000- (현대한옥의 유형 분류 -2000년 이후 건축가의 디자인을 중심으로-)

  • Since the recent Hanok boom in Korea, Contemporary Hanok has been evolving in terms of structure, space, form, etc. To get a comprehensive understanding of the diversified Contemporary Hanok, this paper aims at its type classification by analyzing architects' designs since 2000. The criteria for the classification are two: (1) renovation [Re] or new construction [New]; and (2) degree of Contemporary Hanok's deviation from the traditional Hanok's standard - maintaining the traditional form [Main]; changing space within the traditional form [Space]; changing the traditional frame [Frame]; and juxtaposing the traditional and the modern [Combi]. From the two criteria, this paper deduced eight types of Contemporary Hanok, named respectively: Re-Main, New-Main, Re-Space, New-Space, Re-Frame, New-Frame, Re-Combi, and New-Combi, and studied their cases. It can be argued that various aspects of Contemporary Hanok and their critical meanings were well-investigated through this type classification and case-studies.

Tensile Characteristics of ETFE Film According to the Specimen Type (시험편 형상에 따른 ETFE 필름재의 인장 특성)

  • In this paper, uniaxial tensile tests of ETFE films with three kinds of thicknesses(100, 200, $250{\mu}m$) and two kinds of directions(machine direction & transverse direction) are performed and the tensile strength, the tensile strain at break and the Young's modulus of ETFE films are compared for two kinds of specimen types(2 & 5). It could be figured out that there are no significant difference between tensile strengths of two specimen types but the tensile strain at break and the Young's modulus of ETFE films are affected by the specimen types. And it is concluded that the uniaxial tensile test of specimen type 2 are more reliable than that of specimen type 5.

  • This study, firstly, investigates the basic design type and special features of the shape and structure of The Grand People's Study House in North Korea which corresponds to The National Library of Korea in South Korea and the people's study house in the provinces that was unknown until now, the public library of North Korea with the combined type of school(student) library and public(adult) library in South Korea, and university libraries. Secondly, by analyzing the establishment background, documentary records and others, we researched the historical background of present architectural type and design, and the general difference from libraries in South Korea.

  • This paper is a study on the type of campuse site plan constructed by Chosun colonial government in japanese period and then the model of the type being the basis on the campus plan. As a result of analysis to the type of function allocation, main axis and reference point, block plan of five high schools constructed in Mid-Meiji Eva in Japan and the campuses in Japanese period, both were composed of same basic types, I make clear that the model of the campus site plan in japanese period was the site plan of five high schools in Japan, as that of higher education facilities in Japan was.

Cyclic loading tests for precast concrete cantilever walls with C-type connections

  • This study investigates the behavior of precast concrete cantilever wall systems with new vertical connections under cyclic loading. C-type steel connections for PC wall systems are proposed for the transfer of bending moments between walls in the vertical direction, whereas a shear key in the center of the wall is prepared to transfer shear forces by bearing pressure. The proposed connections are assembled easily because the directions of the slots are different at the edges of the walls. Structural performance characteristics such as the strength, ductility, and failure modes of test specimens were investigated. The longitudinal reinforcing steel bars, which are connected to the C-type connections, yielded first. Ultimate deformation was terminated owing to premature failure of the connections. The strength and deformation obtained from the cross-sectional analysis were generally similar to experimental data.

  • This study was carried out to obtain basic data for architectural plans on the facilities relocation needed in operating the departmentalized classroom system at the latest built middle schools. For this, floor plans of ten middle schools built in Gwangju after 2009 were analyzed about space configuration and area holding state. The process of this study is as follows: (1) To investigate proper area holding state for operating variation type, this study analyzed area of departmentalized classrooms, homebases and teachers' offices. (2) To investigate space configuration for operating variation type, this study analyzed composition of departmentalized classrooms, learning-support facilities and homebases. (3) On the base of those analyses, this study proposed some directions for architectural plans on the facilities relocation.

Development of Rolling Type Light-Shelf with Adjustable Reflectivity (반사율 변경이 가능한 롤링타입형 광선반 개발)

  • Purpose: Recently, lighting energy consumption in buildings has been gradually increasing and more studies are being carried out in order to solve this problem. Especially, the efficiency of the light-shelf system, which is a natural lighting system, has been recognized as a potential solution in addressing this problem and so various studies regarding the light-shelf system are being conducted. However, if high luminance material is used for the light-shelf system, glaring may occur in certain circumstances even though such material increases efficiency, and there are also difficulties related to maintenance and management in the case of an external light-shelf system. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest modifications in relation to the reflectivity of the light-shelf system and introduce a rolling type light-shelf system with built-in cleaning equipment. In addition, a performance evaluation technique was established to verify its effectiveness. Method: In this study, we reviewed previous studies related to the light-shelf system and its performance. Then a testbed was established to assess the performance of the rolling-type light-shelf system suggested in this study. Also, the performance of the rolling-type light-shelf system suggested in this study was compared and analyzed with that of existent light-shelf systems in order to better verify the performance, and the uniformity ratio of illumination and lighting energy consumption were calculated for this purpose. Result: The results of the performance evaluation are as follows. 1) The performance evaluation result of the light-shelf system on the day of the summer solstice shows that $30^{\circ}$ is appropriate for the angle of light-shelf system, and the depth of the incoming natural light also increases as the angle of the light shelf increases. 2) It is possible to improve the uniformity ratio of illumination by increasing the reflectivity of the light shelf, and the reason for this is the increase in the amount of incoming light entering indoors due to the increased reflectivity of the light shelf. 3) The rolling type light-shelf system suggested in this study enables energy saving in comparison with existent light-shelf systems, and when the external illuminance decreases to 60,000 lx and 40,000 lx during the summer solstice due to factors such as the weather, the suggested light-shelf system can save energy by 12.1% and 5.1% respectively. Thus the light-shelf system proposed in this study is deemed to be effective in reducing energy costs.
