  • Migration velocity analysis (MVA) for creating optimum depth-domain velocities in seismic imaging was applied to marine long-offset multi-channel data, and the effectiveness of the MVA approach was demonstrated by the combinations of conventional data processing procedures. The time-domain images generated by conventional time-processing scheme has been considered to be sufficient so far for the seismic stratigraphic interpretation. However, when the purpose of the seismic imaging moves to the hydrocarbon exploration, especially in the geologic modeling of the oil and gas play or lead area, drilling prognosis, in-place hydrocarbon volume estimation, the seismic images should be converted into depth domain or depth processing should be applied in the processing phase. CMP-based velocity analysis, which is mainly based on several approximations in the data domain, inherently contains errors and thus has high uncertainties. On the other hand, the MVA provides efficient and somewhat real-scale (in depth) images even if there are no logging data available. In this study, marine long-offset multi-channel seismic data were optimally processed in time domain to establish the most qualified dataset for the usage of the iterative MVA. Then, the depth-domain velocity profile was updated several times and the final velocity-in-depth was used for generating depth images (CRP gather and stack) and compared with the images obtained from the velocity-in-time. From the results, we were able to confirm the depth-domain results are more reasonable than the time-domain results. The spurious local minima, which can be occurred during the implementation of full waveform inversion, can be reduced when the result of MVA is used as an initial velocity model.

  • As wind turbines become larger and lighter, they are likely to respond sensitively by dynamic loads applied on them. Since the responses at resonances are particularly interested, it is required to be able to predict natural frequencies of wind turbines reliably at early design stage. To achieve this, the foundation-soil analysis is needed to be carried out and a finite element approach is adopted in general. However, the finite element approach would not be appropriate in early design stage because it demands heavy efforts in pile-soil modelling and computing facilities. On the contrary, theoretical approaches adopting linear approximations for soils are relatively simple and easy to handle. Therefore, they would be a useful tool in predicting a pile-soil interaction, particularly in early design stage. In this study an analysis for a pile inserted in soil is performed. The pile and soil are modelled as a beam and continuum medium, respectively, within an elastic range. In this analysis, influence factors at the pile head for lateral loads are predicted by means of this continuum approach for various length-diameter ratios of the pile. The influence factors predicted are validated with those reported in literature, proposed from a finite element analysis.

  • As one of the methods to ameliorate the ray effects which are the nature of anomalous computational effects due to the discretization of the angular variable in discrete ordinates approximations, a computational program, named TWODET (TWO dimensional Discrete Element Transport), has developed in 2 dimensional cartesian coordinates system using the discrete elements method, in which the discrete angle quadratures are steered by the spatially dependent angular fluxes. The results of the TWODET calculation with K-2, L-3 discrete angular quadratures, in the problem of a centrally located, isotropically emitting flat source in an absorbing square, are shown to be more accurate than that of the DOT 4.3 calculation with S-10 full symmetry angular quadratures, in remedy of the ray effect at the edge flux distributions of the square. But the computing time of the TWODET is about 4 times more than that of the DOT 4.3. In the problem of vacuum boundaries just outside of the source region in an absorbing square, the results of the TWODET calculation are shown severely anomalous ray effects, due to the sudden discontinuity between the source and the vacuum, like as the results of the DOT 4.3 calculation. In the probelm of an external source in an absorbing square in which a highly absorbing medium is added, the results of the TWODET calculation with K-3, L-4 show a good ones like as, somewhat more than, that of the DOT 4.3 calculation with S-10.

  • The integral equation method is a powerful tool for numerical electromagnetic modeling. But the difficulty of this technique is the size of the linear equations, which demands excessive memory and calculation time to invert. This limitation of the integral equation method becomes critical in inverse problem. The conventional Born approximation, where the electric field in the anomalous body is approximated by the background field, is very rapid and easy to compute. However, the technique is inaccurate when the conductivity contrast between the body and the background medium is large. Quasi-linear, quasi-analytical and extended Born approximations are novel approaches to 3-D EM modeling based on the linearization of the integral equations for scattered EM field. These approximation methods are much less time consuming than full integral equation method and more accurate than conventional Born approximation. They we, however, still approximate methods for 3-D EM modeling. Iterative series methods such as modified Born, quasi-linear and quasi-analytical can be used to increase the accuracy of various approximation methods. Comparisons of numerical performance against a full integral equation and various approximation codes show that the iterative series methods are very accurate and almost always converge. Furthermore, they are very fast and easy to implement on a computer. In this study, extended Born series method is developed and it shows more accurate result than that of other series methods. Therefore, Iterative series methods, including extended Born series, open principally new possibilities for fast and accurate 3-D EM modeling and inversion.

  • In this paper, we analyze transmission characteristics of ultrashort laser pulses using the property of Raised-cosine pulse which are systematically obtained following Class-2 PRS model. The high-order pulses are easily derived front a modified PRS system model as Class-1 PRS model. This may be based on the fact that the spectra and bandwidths of the high-order pulses are beautifully related to their orders. And we make clear they are very useful to cover wider area and more accurate transmission characteristics of ultrashort pulses than Gaussian or Sech pulse approximations used conventionally. First modifying the generalized PRS system model, we propose a new model for deriving any type of high-order pulse. And we offer a novel analysis method of ultrashort pulse transmission which has any shape and FWHM, using the proposed model. In addition, by fixing the pulse range $\tau$=1(ps) and varying the order of the pulse from n=1 to n=100, we obtain spectra of ultrashort pulses with 1(ps)-100(fs) FWHM's, and width of FWHM in the Class-2 PRS model 50~100(fs) smaller than Class-1 PRS model. As a one-step further, we derive PSD's of their pulse trains when they are applied to Unipolar signaling scheme. These PSD's are derided in the range of possible pulse intervals. All of these results are not only coincided with some conventional experimental works but also will to applied to any pioneering ultrashort pulse in the future.

  • Using as assay for jejunal crypt stem cell survival, dose-response curves for the reproductive capacity of crypt stem cells of mouse jejunum exposed to multifractionated gamma-ray irradiation (single, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, and 16 fractions) were analyzed and single-dose survival curve of these cells was constructed. The following conclusion were drawn: 1) Survival curves for higher numbers of dose fractions were displaced to higher dose, and characterized by increasingly shallower slopes. 2) The single-dose survival curve had broad shoulder, Dq=460 cGy, remaining near-exponential over initial dose range 0 to 300 cGy, with initial slope 1Do=474 cGy. 3) At fractionated dose En the range of 180 to 450 cGy, the average recovered dose per fraction interval was approximately $50\%$ of the dose per fraction. 4) The value of $\alpha/\beta$ ratio by using of linear regression analysis for the reciprocal dose plots was 8.3 Gy which lied in the range of 6-14 Gy for early-reacting tissues. 5) The linear-quadratic model for dose-response formula offers valid approximations for at 1 doses to be used in radiotherapy, only two parameters to be determined, and considerable convenience in practical applications.

  • In this study, a new simple method for the estimation of hyperelastic material properties by indentation tests is proposed. Among hyperelastic material models, the Yeoh model with three material properties ($C_{10}$, $C_{20}$, $C_{30}$) is adopted to describe the strain energy density in terms of strain invariants. Finite element simulations of the spherical indentation of hyperelastic materials of the Yeoh model with different material properties are performed to establish a database of indentation force-displacement curves. The indentation force-displacement curves are fitted by cubic polynomials, which are approximated as a product of third-order polynomials of ($C_{10}$, $C_{20}$, $C_{30}$). A regression analysis is conducted to determine the coefficients of the equations for the indentation force-displacement curve approximations. A regression equation is used to estimate the hyperelastic material properties. The present method is verified by comparing the estimated material properties with true values.

  • Many Linear attacks have introduced after M. Matsui suggested Linear Cryptanalysis in 1993. The one of them is the method suggested by B. Kaliski and M. Robshaw. It was a new method using multiple linear approximations to attack for block ciphers. It requires less known plaintexts than that of Linear Cryptanalysis(LC) by Matsui, but it has a problem. In this paper, we will introduce the new method using multiple linear approximation that can solve the problem. Using the new method, the requirements of the known plaintexts is 5(1.25) times as small as the requirements in LC on 8(16) round DES with a success rate of 95%(86%) respectively. We can also adopt A Chosen Plaintext Linear Attack suggested by L. R. Knudsen and J. E. Mathiassen and then our attack requires about $2^{40.6}$ chosen plaintexts to recover 15 key bits with 86% success rate. We believe that the results in this paper contain the fastest attack on the DES full round reported so far in the open literature.

  • In this paper, we firstly evaluate the resistance of the reduced 5-round version of the block cipher CIKS-1 against linear cryptanalysis(LC) and show that we can attack full-round CIKS-1 with \ulcorner56-bit key through the canonical extension of our attack. A feature of the CIKS-1 is the use of both Data-Dependent permutations(DDP) and internal key scheduling which consist in data dependent transformation of the round subkeys. Taking into accout the structure of CIKS-1 we investigate linear approximation. That is, we consider 16 linear approximations with p=3/4 for 16 parallel modulo $2^2$ additions to construct one-round linear approximation and derive one-round linear approximation with the probability P=1/2+$2^{-17}$ by Piling-up lemma. Then we present 3-round linear approximation with 1/2+$2^{-17}$ using this one-round approximation and attack the reduced 5-round CIKS-1 with 64-bit block by LC. In conclusion we present that our attack requires $2^{38}$chosen plaintexts with a probability of success of 99.9% and about $2^{67-7}$encryption times to recover the last round key.(But, for the full-round CIKS-1, our attack requires about $2^{166}$encryption times)

  • Ice accretion on the aircraft components, such as wings, fuselage, and empennage, can occur when the aircraft encounters a cloud zone with high humidity and low temperature. The prevention of ice accretion is important because it causes a decrease in the aerodynamic performance and flight stability, thus leading to fatal safety problems. In this study, a shape design optimization of a multi-element airfoil is performed to minimize the amount of ice accretion on the high-lift device including leading-edge slat, main element, and trailing-edge flap. The design optimization framework proposed in this paper consists of four major parts: air flow, droplet impingement and ice accretion simulations and gradient-free optimization algorithm. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulation is used to predict the aerodynamic performance and flow field around the multi-element airfoil at the angle of attack 8°. Droplet impingement and ice accretion simulations are conducted using the multi-physics computational analysis tool. The objective function is to minimize the total mass of ice accretion and the design variables are the deflection angle, gap, and overhang of the flap and slat. Kriging surrogate model is used to construct the response surface, providing rapid approximations of time-consuming function evaluation, and genetic algorithm is employed to find the optimal solution. As a result of optimization, the total mass of ice accretion on the optimized multielement airfoil is reduced by about 8% compared to the baseline configuration.
