  • Recently, freezing index of frost penetration depth estimation used in Korea is applied according to the standard, published by MOLIT in 2003. However, it is difficult to consider can not be determined to standard reflects weather conditions in accordance with the current climate warming or abnormally high temperature. Also the temperature should be considered local variables because heavy local gap. Therefore, this study is through the freezing index presented in MOLIT's code by calculating the frost penetration depth determining whether the adequacy and conducted a study to apply in the field. As a result, when the Elevation 100m to standard in Incheon frost penetration depth is found to be 50.8cm.

  • The accurate error size and discrimination region in the perception of depth amount from 3- dimensional images by the human visual system will be the basic data for the utilization and application of the binocular 3 - Dimensional image system. This paper is focused on studying the accuracy of the depth amount perceived from 3-dimensional images by the human visual system. From the performed experiment, the following results have been obtained: (1) The depth amount perceived from the binocular 3-dimensional images has been displayed by a proper scale of distance, and found to be imprecise and also have a large variance. (2) In utilizing the binocular 3-dimensional image system, it seems more appropriate to make the images viewed outward rather than inward from the screen in the regard of error and variance. (3) The binocular 3- dimensional image system can be effectively applied to displaying unreal space, for example, the layout of room in design, from the viewpoint of perception characteristics of depth amount.

  • A HMD type multi-focus 3D display system is developed and proof about satisfaction of eye accommodation is tested. Four LEDs(Light Emitting Diode) and a DMD are used to generate four parallax images at single eye and any mechanical part is not included in this system. The multi-focus means the ability of monocular depth cue to various depth levels. By achieving multi-focus function, we developed a 3D display system for only one eye, which can satisfy the accommodation to displayed virtual objects within defined depth. We could achieve a result that focus adjustment is possible at 5 step depths in sequence within 2m depth for only one eye. Additionally, the change level of burring depending on the focusing depth is tested by captured photos and moving pictures of video camera and several subjects. And the HMD type multi-focus 3D display can be applied to a monocular 3D display and monocular AR 3D display.

  • We propose a depth-fused-type three-dimensional (3D) near-eye display implemented using a birefringent lens set that is made of calcite. By using a birefringent lens and image source (28.70 mm × 21.52 mm), which has different focal lengths according to the polarization state of the incident light, the proposed system can present depth-fused three-dimensional images at 4.6 degrees of field of view (FOV) within 1.6 Diopter (D) to 0.4 D, depending on the polarization distributed depth map. The proposed method can be applied to near-eye displays like head-mounted display systems, for a more natural 3D image without vergence-accommodation conflict.

  • Does snow depth initialization have a quantitative impact on sub-seasonal to seasonal prediction skill? To answer this question, a snow depth initialization technique for seasonal forecast system has been implemented and the impact of the initialization on the seasonal forecast of surface air temperature during the wintertime is examined. Since the snow depth observation can not be directly used in the model simulation due to the large systematic bias and much smaller model variability, an anomaly rescaling method to the snow depth initialization is applied. Snow depth in the model is initialized by adding a rescaled snow depth observation anomaly to the model snow depth climatology. A suite of seasonal forecast is performed for each year in recent 12 years (1999-2010) with and without the snow depth initialization to evaluate the performance of the developed technique. The results show that the seasonal forecast of surface air temperature over East Asian region sensitively depends on the initial snow depth anomaly over the region. However, the sensitivity shows large differences for different timing of the initialization and forecast lead time. Especially, the snow depth anomaly initialized in the late winter (Mar. 1) is the most effective in modulating the surface air temperature anomaly after one month. The real predictability gained by the snow depth initialization is also examined from the comparison with observation. The gain of the real predictability is generally small except for the forecasting experiment in the early winter (Nov. 1), which shows some skillful forecasts. Implications of these results and future directions for further development are discussed.

The following are the results of this research. 1. The abdomen and hip gradient turned out as the most influential factor on the appearance and the function of Divided Skirt. The pattern of which the abdomen and hip gradient was designated as vertical zero degree, showed an excellent appearance and in case of function, the pattern of which thw angle of the abdomen and hip gradient of human body type was applied to itself without a particular designation turned out excellent. 2. In case of crotch depth, the pattern which had crotch depth+2㎝, had a better appearance but influced nothing on function. 3. The factor of crotch width didn\`t have any influence on the appearance and function of Divided Skirt. 4. Referring to the results of the above, the Divided Skirt pattern of which the appearance and the function turned excellent, had the angle of abdomen gradient 4 degrees, the angle abdomen gradient 4 degrees, the angle of hip gradient/2+2.5 degrees, crotch depth+2㎝ and crotch width following human body type. In case of Divied Skirt worn when going out, the pattern which had the angle of abdomen and hip gradient vertical zero degree, crotch depth+2㎝ and crotch width following human body type, turned out suitable. Also, the suitable pattern of Divided Skirt for working had the abdomen and hip gradient following human body type, crotch depth+2㎝ and covering girth diameter/2±1㎝.

  • The sonic layer depth (SLD) variability is important for understanding the acoustic properties of the upper ocean that influence acoustic communications, acoustic tomography, and naval operations related to searching and detecting marine underwater vessels. Generally, the SLD is the acoustical equivalent of the mixed layer depth (MLD), although they are defined differently. In this study the SLD was compared with the MLD over the annual cycle in the East Sea using an available set of temperature-salinity observation profiles. For the comparison, various definitions and methods of the MLD had applied. As a result, the SLD in the East Sea is slight similar to the curvature method applied MLD, but the other MLD have severe differences with the SLD. Futhermore, a parabolic equation transmission model is used to evaluate the cutoff frequency trapped in surface duct. It follow that there is an optimum frequency for propagation at which the loss of sound is minimum.

  • PURPOSES : Hollows are easily made, and bearing capacity can be lowered near underground structures because sublayers of pavement settle for a long time due to difficult compaction at the position. If loadings are applied in this condition, distresses may occur in pavement and, as the result, its lifespan can decrease due to the stress larger than that expected in design phase. Although reinforced slab is installed on side of box culvert to minimize the distresses, length of the reinforced slab is fixed as 6m in Korea without any theoretical consideration. The purpose of this paper is investigating the behavior of concrete pavement according to the cover depth of the box culvert ad the length of the reinforced slab. METHODS : The distresses of concrete pavement slabs were investigated and cover depth was surveyed at position where the box culverts were located in expressways. The concrete pavements including the box culverts were modeled by finite element method and their behaviors according to the soil cover depth were analyzed. Wheel loading was applied after considering self weight of the pavement and temperature gradient of the concrete pavement slab at Yeojoo, Gyeonggi where a test road was located. After installing pavement joint at various positions, behavior of the pavement was analyzed by changing the soil cover depth and length of the reinforced slab. RESULTS : As the result, the tensile stress developed in the pavement slab according to the joint position, cover depth, and reinforced slab length was figured out. CONCLUSIONS : More reasonable and economic design of the concrete pavement including the box culvert is expected by the research results.

  • The high-speed machining in the manufacturing industry field has been widely applied for parts of vehicles, aircraft, ships, electronics, etc., recently, because the effect of cost savings for shortening processing time and improving productivity is great. The purpose in this study is to investigate the effect of cutting depth on the surface roughness of workpiece with the spindle rotational speed and feed rate of high-speed machines as a parameter to find the optimal depth in the finishing for ball end mill of the aluminum alloy 7075 which is used much in aircraft parts. When the cutting depth for the respective feed rate and spindle rotational speed is varied from 0.1 mm to 0.7 mm at intervals of 0.2 mm in the wet finishing of the aluminum alloy 7075 by the insoluble cutting oils and high-speed machining used in the rough machining of previous study, the surface roughness values and the cutting temperature are measured. In addition, the cutting surface shapes of test specimens are observed by optical microscope and compared with respectively. It is found that the surface roughness values and the temperature generated during machining are increased as the feed rate and cutting depth are raised, but those are decreased as the spindle rotational speed is increased.

  • The amount of soil cutting, transported, and filing up the soil in the project area is considered to change the volume depending on the condition of the soil; the volume change rate of the soil is calculated by collecting undisturbed samples below 1 m to 2.0 m above the surface through test pits. In this study, large-scale field tests are carried out. There are areas with an excavation depth of 10m or more, but some errors have occurred in calculating the soil volume by uniformly applying the soil conversion factor for a depth of 1 to 2 m. According to the field tests, the earthwork volumes applied with the soil conversion factor for each depth increase by 3.9 to 9.4% compared to the soil volume applied uniformly with that of 2 m depth.
