Through the last 20 years' study, it is a well-known fact that symbolic approach has limitations in generating a new concept from given concepts. Hence, neural networks having a role of associative memory based on dynamical activation of neurons attract AI scientists' attention. In this paper, recent trials for combining neural networks and Artificial Intelligent systems are systematically reviewed and a prototype ENEDB(Experimental Neuro Expert DataBase) system built on HP9000/300 workstation is introduced to show the possibility of using the trials for real applications.

This paper describes an application of an air-pulse actuator for vibration control of a framed structure. Dynamic characteristics of the prototype actuator that utilizes an air-jet reaction force pulsated by an electromagnetic valve were investigated to use it as a control actuator. Using a control law based on the sliding mode control theory, experiments of the vibration control were carried out. The experimental results verified the validity of the actuator performance.

This paper provides a product data representation, a data schema and related operations, for the management of engineering changes. The computer Interpretable format of the representation enables itself to be realized through databases and their applications to a component of a product data management system. Supporting general operations for the engineering changes, it resolves problems of the existing information systems in the nested engineering changes and the simultaneous change application to multiple products. To show the feasibility, a prototype system is implemented based on the representation.

An international standard for the product model data, STEP, and a standard for the distributed object technology. CORBA, will play a very important role in the future manufacturing environment. These two technologies provide background for the sharing of product data and the integration of applications on the network. This paper describes a prototype CAD/CAE enviroment that is integrated on the network by STEP and CORBA. Several application servers and client software were developed to verify the proposed concept.

The legacy Residential Gateway (RG) which constitutes fixed WAN interfaces and LAN interfaces, is at a disadvantage due to difficult modification of a system. In this paper, we propose the flexible module-based RG on the basis of the RG standardization and demonstrate the prototype system, whose function is verified by the home automation application.

This paper is concerned with a conceptual design of a knowledge-based modeler for network analysis. The "knowledge-based modeler" approach is suggested as a method for incorporating the user's qualitative knowledge and subjective decison in the course of the mathematical modeling and the subsequent solution procedure. The submodules of the proposed modeler such as database, model/algorithm base and functional knowledge bases are identified and the flows of information between the submodules are sequentially defined. A prototype system is implemented for experimental purpose by using the application software GURU.ware GURU.

A compact, light-weight, integrated flight control computer(IFCC) for small unmanned autonomous vehicles is developed. Its design objective is to produce an all in one avionics system which includes the navigation sensor, data link, attitude sensors and air data sensors. The initial phase of ground and flight tests are performed to verify the prototype IFCC, showing promising results. The high potential of its application is expected.

In a recent as the compact and the precision motor is needed, the use of rare earth permanent magnet with high energy product is frequent. Accordingly it is important to reduce the cogging torque for improving the control precision of motor. In order to develop the motor with low cogging torque which is contented with the requirement of customer, the prototype is designed and complete based on analysis method to reduce the cogging torque. The experimental results verify the validity.
