  • Adverse effects caused by the surveillance test for the components of nuclear power plant involve plant transients, unnecessary wear, burden on licensee's time, and the radiation exposure to personnel along with the characteristics of each component. The optimization methodology of STI and AOT has been developed and applied to AFWPs of a reference plant. The approach proposed in this paper consist of the resole in minimal mean unavailability of the two-out-of-four system with adverse effects are analytically calculated for the example system. The surveillance testing strategy are given by the sequential test, the staggered test and the train staggered test which is a mined test scheme. In the system level, the sensitivity analyses for the STI and AOT, are performed for the measure of the system unavailability of the top event in the fault tree developed for the example system. This methodology may contribute to establishing the basis for the risk-based regulations.

  • Reliability plays a pivotal role in products safety and quality. DoD RIAC recently developed a new reliability prediction methodology, $217Plus^{TM}$, for electronic systems. It officially replaces the well-known MIL-HDBK-217 and is expected to be widely used. Although theoretic study about $217Plus^{TM}$ and its application towards field systems seem to be attractive, it is also desirable to understand the general background of its development. In this paper, we performed a historical review of the arenas related to reliability prediction. Due to the vast of materials, our scope was limited to the development of $217Plus^{TM}$. We first reviewed Rome Laboratory and RIAC. We then explained the development course of reliability methods, MIL-HDBK-217, PRISM, and 217-Plus. This review will form not only a good understanding of the methodology but a basis for future study. We conclude this study with provision of future research areas.

  • Formal safety assessment (FSA) is defined as a structured and systematic methodology aimed at enhancing maritime safety including protection of life, health, and the marine environment and property, by using risk and cost/benefit assessment or, more specifically, it is a process of identifying hazard, evaluating risk and deciding on course of action to control those risks. Emphasis is placed on the structural aspect of the failure of cargo hold. This study is expected to illustrate how a new methodology, i.e. the Formal Safety Assessment, can be applied to specific ship safety problems.

  • The preferences of customers change over time. However, existing collaborative filtering (CF) systems are static, since they only incorporate information regarding whether a customer buys a product during a certain period and do not make use of the purchase sequences of customers. Therefore, the quality of the recommendations of the typical CF could be improved through the use of information on such sequences. In this paper, we propose a new methodology for enhancing the quality of CF recommendation that uses customer purchase sequences. The proposed methodology is applied to a large department store in Korea and compared to existing CF techniques. Various experiments using real-world data demonstrate that the proposed methodology provides higher quality recommendations than do typical CF techniques, with better performance, especially with regard to heavy users.

  • The most fundamental method in IT innovation up to today is the SOA which has been accepted as the standard for the system integration and makes the business more flexible. Although it is important to classify the workflow of enterprise into the unit of services, there is no systematical research on this topic yet. This paper proposes a SOA deployment methodology, which composed of 6 steps. By utilizing this methodology, an enterprise can build up the SOA applied environment easily to achieve its business objectives and to make a linkage between services and business processes more effectively and efficiently, which is proved through Analytic Hierarchy Process. It is considered that Service Oriented Architecture can be the future standard for the IT integration beyond the individual application.

  • For accurate construction contract time estimation, few parameters are more significant than crew production rates and factors affecting the rates. However, statistical analysis techniques for finding such factors are not always simple mainly because there are many factors and the interaction between factors is not well quantitatively understood. This paper presents methodology of identifying factors driving crew production rates. The methodology is further demonstrated with representative data collected by the author from 13 on-going highway constructions. Three factors were identified as statistically significant drivers of Cap crew production rate: 'Cap Size (m3/ea)'; 'Cap Length (m)'; and 'Cap Shape (Rectangle vs. Inverted 'T')'. It was also found that the production rates are best explained by a multiple regression model with two of the drivers; 'Cap Size' and 'Cap Shape'.

  • THERP (Technique for Human Error Rate Prediction) methodology has been widely used for probabilistic safety assessments. The NUREG report involving this methodology is also called the HRA handbook. The THERP assumes that all actions involved in implementing a task are considered as components. In this paper human error rates associated with maintenance are evaluated by the THERP methodology. A gas governor system is used as an example which is also a risky system like nuclear power plants. It is also demonstrated that this approach is flexible in that it can be applied to any operator actions related to test and maintenance.

  • In this paper, we propose to analyze the physical characteristics of a planar dual-composite right-left handed transmission line by a common application of Bond Graph approach and Scattering formalism (Methodology S.BG). The technique, we propose consists, on the one hand, of modeling of a dual composite right-left metamaterial transmission line (D-CRLH-TL) by Bond Graph approach, and, it consists of extracting the equivalent circuit of this studied structure. On the other hand, it consists to exploiting the scattering parameters (Scattering matrix) of the DCRLH-TL using the methodology which we previously developed since 2009. Finally, the validation of the proposed and used technique is carried out by comparisons between the simulations results with ADS and Maple (or MatLab).

  • Ontology is an indispensable component in intelligent and semantic processing of knowledge and information, such as in semantic web. However, ontology construction requires vast amount of data collection and arduous efforts in processing these un-structured data. This study proposed a methodology to automatically construct and generate ontologies from Sejong Electronic Dictionary. As Sejong Electronic Dictionary is structured in XML format, it can be processed automatically by computer programmed tools into an OWL(Web Ontology Language)-based ontologies as specified in W3C . This paper presents the process and concrete application of this methodology.

  • The object-oriented paradigm is being recognized as the most effective technique to develope the complex, large software system. In this paper, we propose the modeling methodology using object-oriented technology for the ship compartmentation design(OO _COMDEF) based on the proposed modeling methodology. Illustrative examples to show the application of the prototype system are given.
