  • This study analyzed the contents of "Reading" textbooks for 1st-6th grades. The focus of the analysis was on philosophical thinking methods designed to help children to think for themselves. Following the analysis, methods were designed for the application of effective use of Philosophy in the elementary school curriculum. Analysis of works of children's literature in "reading" textbooks show patterns of logical, ethical and creative thinking. Therefore, "reading" textbooks can be used to help children to think philosophically. Five stages of discussion can be applied in the classroom; these are: establish the issues, outline the process of discussion, discuss the issues, evaluate and summarize the discussion, apply the learning to other subjects. Teachers can use philosophical thinking methods to improve the quality and quantity of instruction with various questions, having children express their opinions, interpreting their thoughts clearly, maintaining logical consistency, and evaluating the procedures and results of discussion. These methods can be used in the teaching-learning process in the elementary school to develop rich findings and meaningful communication.

  • In this paper, we present a new model of web-based reading education system. The existing web-based reading education system was effective to reinforce interactions of the learners and elevate their reading interests, but the usability of web-based system was extremely unsatisfied during the process of reading required for a long time because it placed importance on the guidance as a result of reading. This paper has divided reading education activities depending upon the times: before reading, during reading and after reading, etc. Web-based reading strategies, which can be actively used at each stage, have been developed to do interaction actively among teachers, students and their parents. Furthermore, application methods of the strategies have been presented depending upon teaching-learning type of Korean language subject, such as professional's cooperative learning and problem solving learning, etc to revitalize reading guidance of regular Korean language class time.

  • This study has been made under the purpose of revealing the real effectiveness of Library Application Education, Life and Career Education and Reading Education in order to seek for the activation of school library and right roles of librarian teachers and subject teachers through connected to school library educations according to the free-semester system. For that, the survey was made to 73 teachers and 112 students, who already experienced connected library educations. As a result, the most frequent educations made by teachers and students was Reading Education, the second one was Library Application Education and the least one was Life and Career Education. In the aspect of effectiveness in teachers and students, the result came out quite meaningful and for teachers, especially the manner in the field of expertism, the satisfaction level of teachers was high in Life and Career Education in format style and creativity in source materials. For the students, the meaningful effectiveness shows in interaction field. Based on the research: first, study about various models of Reading Education which will be applied in connected to school library education according to the free-semester system. Second, additional researches are necessary for the expansional aspect of Library Application Education, Life and Career Education and Reading. Third, continuous studies are essential for the elements which can contribute effectiveness. Fourth, offering many strategical methods are essential to demonstrate creativity for the increase in satisfaction level for teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to structure the system of reading strategy contents and seek a subject linkage method through using it. In order to establish the contents of reading strategy, the 2015 Korean High School Revised National Curriculum's contents system and advanced research were looked at. From that curricula, text areas(the types and fields, meaning structure) and cognitive strategy(reading methods and skills) are deduced and categorized. In addition to reading techniques reorganized by referring to worksheets of advanced researches, the system of reading strategy contents was made. As the result of applying it to the learning activities of "he Integrated Society" and "he Integrated Science" a subject linkage to learn the learning contents proposed providing a variety of reading materials related to the subject and running extended reading programs.

  • The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs established the FarmMap, an digital map of agricultural land. In this study, using deep learning, we suggest the application of farm map reading to farmland such as paddy fields, fields, ginseng, fruit trees, facilities, and uncultivated land. The farm map is used as spatial information for planting status and drone operation by digitizing agricultural land in the real world using aerial and satellite images. A reading manual has been prepared and updated every year by demarcating the boundaries of agricultural land and reading the attributes. Human reading of agricultural land differs depending on reading ability and experience, and reading errors are difficult to verify in reality because of budget limitations. The farmmap has location information and class information of the corresponding object in the image of 5 types of farmland properties, so the suitable AI technique was tested with ResNet50, an instance segmentation model. The results of attribute reading of agricultural land using deep learning and attribute reading by humans were compared. If technology is developed by focusing on attribute reading that shows different results in the future, it is expected that it will play a big role in reducing attribute errors and improving the accuracy of digital map of agricultural land.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of integrated teaching and learning method using augmented reality for effective promotion of child - friendly attitude and environmental preservation attitude and explored its applicability. For this purpose, based on the augmented reality fairy tale, we designed an experience - oriented integrated teaching and learning method such as reading book, story - telling, drawing, environmental conservation practice activity. The experimental group was divided into two groups: augmented reality reading fairy tales (A) and children's book reading fairy tales (B). First, interest, immersion, and empathy were higher in the application environment of integrated learning teaching method based on Augmented Reality. Second, there was no difference between the two groups in content understanding. Third, in terms of expressiveness, it was verified that various expressions were expressed in the applying environment of the integrated teaching - learning method based on augmented reality through drawing activities. Fourth, in practice activities, more students were practicing in the augmented reality - based integrated teaching - learning method applied environment, and the number of practice activities of individual students was also confirmed. This study suggests that the application of the integrated teaching and learning method can enhance the effect of education when using the smart teaching media using the augmented reality in early childhood education.

  • Objective: This study aims to develop a new desk with a built-in bookholder and desktop-mounted sliding drawer for reducing stress of seated reading postures and to analyze its effect. Background: It is general for readers to bend their back and neck when reading books on desks, which may result in high back and neck postural stress. In addition, postures using vertically layered drawers positioned at the side of users may be awkward. Method: For reducing the postural stress, a new desk with a built-in bookholder and sliding drawer was developed based on a standard of KS G 4208 for student desk. The muscle activities of reading postures on both existing and new desks were measured using EMG, in which seven male and three female college students participated. The postural stress, and musculoskeletal discomfort and ease of usage for existing and new drawers were analyzed by RULA and questionnaire survey, respectively. Results: Compared to existing desk, the muscle activity for the new desk with a bookholder was reduced by 47% when reading books. In addition, musculoskeletal discomforts in the shoulder, neck and low back were significantly lower when using the new desk with a bookholder. Although the stresses for postures using the desktop-mounted sliding drawer and general drawer were not significantly different, the questionnaire survey revealed that the new desktop-mounted sliding drawer is easier to use. Conclusion: A new desk developed in this study significantly reduced postural stress and enhanced subjective preference when reading. Application: This would be useful when developing new desks with low postural stress.

  • In this paper, we propose a voice-annotation browsing system that make the reading-disabled people to be able to find and play the existing voice-annotations. The proposed system consists of 4 steps: input, ranking & recommendation, search, and output. For the reading-disabled people depending only on the auditory sense, all steps can accept voice commands. To evaluate the effectiveness of our system, we design and implement an android-based mobile e-book application supporting the voice-annotation browsing ability. The implemented system is tested by a number of blind-folded users. As a result, we can see almost all the reading-disabled people can successfully and easily reach the existing voice-annotations they want to find.
