A STUDY OF MAGNETIC ALIGNMENT OF DIE-UPSET Pr-Fe-B-Cu MAGNETS

  • An attempt has been made to investigate the mechanism of magnetic alignment in the magnets produced by upset forging the $Pr_{20}Fe_{74}B_{4}Cu_{2}$ cast bulk alloy. Upset forging of the cast alloy was carried out for 20 sec to an 80 % thickness reduction (strain rate : $4{$\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$) in an open die configuration at varying temperatures in the range $600^{\circ}-900^{\circ}C$. It has been found that the upset forging process at temperatures above $800^{\circ}C$ can achieve a magnetic alignment to a great extent from copper-containing Pr-Fe- B-type cast ingot. The growth manner of the ferromagnetic $Pr_{2}Fe_{14}B$ matrix grain in Pr-Fe-B-type alloys was studied by examining the morphology change of the matrix grain in sintered body, and it was found that the matrix grains grew in anisotropic manner such that the grain grew more rapidly along the a- or b-axis than along the c-axis. This anisotropic grain growth led to the plate-like shape of the matrix grain. The magnetic alignment during the upset forging was attributed to grain boundary gliding of the plate-like grains, and the geometry of the grains in the cast ingot and the presence of a large amount of the praseodymium-rich grain boundary phase were thought to play a key role in the achievement of magnetic alignment.

Protease Inhibitors in Porcine Colostrum: Potency Assessment and Initial Characterization

  • Porcine colostrum and milk were separated into the acid-soluble and casein fractions by acidification followed by centrifuge. The acid-soluble fraction of porcine colostrum was further separated by liquid chromatography and anisotropic membrane filtration. Trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibitory capacity in porcine colostrum, milk and their components was determined by incubating bovine trypsin or chymotrypsin in a medium containing their corresponding substrates with or without addition of various amounts of porcine colostrum, porcine milk or their components. The inhibition of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) degradation in pig small intestinal contents by porcine colostrum was measured by incubating iodinated IGF-I or EGF with the intestinal contents with or without addition of porcine colostrum. Degradation of labeled IGF-I or EGF was determined by monitoring the generation of radioactivity soluble in 30% trichloroacetic acid (TCA). The results showed that porcine colostrum had high levels of trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibitory activity and increased the stability of IGF-I and EGF in pig intestinal contents. The inhibitory activity declined rapidly during lactation. It was also found that trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibitory activity and the inhibition on IGF-I and EGF degradation in the acid-soluble fraction were higher than that in the casein fraction. Heat-resistance study indicated that trypsin inhibitors in porcine colostrum survived heat treatments of $100^{\circ}C$ water bath for up to 10 min, but exposure to boiling water bath for 30 min significantly decreased the inhibitory activity. Compared with the trypsin inhibitors, the chymotrypsin inhibitors were more heatsensitive. Separation of the acid-soluble fraction of porcine colostrum by liquid chromatography and anisotropic membrane filtration revealed that the trypsin and chymotrypsin inhibitory capacity was mainly due to a group of small proteins with molecular weight of 10,000-50,000. In conclusion, the present study confirmed the existence of high levels of protease inhibitors in porcine colostrum, and the inhibition of porcine colostrum on degradation of milk-borne growth factors in the pig small intestinal tract was demonstrated for the first time.

  • The stress intensity factors have been widely used in numerical studies of crack growth direction. However in many cases, omissive terms of the series expansion are quantitatively significant, so we consider the computation of such terms. For this purpose, we used the finite element method with isometric quadratic quarter-point elements. For examples, infinite square plate with a slant crack subjected to a uniaxial load is analyzed. The numerical analysis were performed for the wide range of crack tip element lengths and inclined angles. The numerical results obtained are compared with the theoretical solutions. Also they were accurate and efficient.

Co-Ni-P합금도금층의 자기적 성질에 관한 연구 (Magnetic Properties of Electrodeposited Co-Ni-P Alloys)

  • Co-Ni-P alloys were electrodeposited from NH4Cl-sulfate-hypophosphite baths under various plating conditions. Their effective anisotropic magnetic field which is one of the important properties for magnetic recording materials were investigated as the function of alloy compositions and c-axis orientation. The preferred orientation and the contents of Ni and P depend on the pH of solutions and also on the current density. It was found that the alloy films deposited from the solutions of pH4 at high current density had c-axis orientation parallel to the growth direction and the effective anisotropic fields sufficient for perpendicular magnetic recording application.

Brownian Dynamics Simulation Study on the Anisotropic FENE Dumbbell Model for Concentrated Polymer Solution and the Melt

  • We study the rheological properties of concentrated polymer solution and the melt under simple shear and elon-gational flow using Brownian dynamicssimulation. In order to describe the anisotropic molecular motion, we modifiedthe Giesekus' mobility tensor by incorporating the finitely extensible non-linear elastic (FENE) spring force into dumbbell model. To elucidate the nature of this model, our simulation results are compared with the data of FENE-P ("P"standsfor the Perterin) dumbbell model and experiments. While in steady state both original FENE and FENE-P models exhibit a similar viscosity response,the growthof viscosity becomes dissimilar as the anisotropy decreases and the flowrate increases. The steady state viscosity obtained from the simulation well describes the experiments including the shear-thinning behavior in shear flow and viscosity-thinning behavior in elongational flow. But the growth of viscosity oforiginal FENE dumbbell model cannot describe the experimental results in both flow fields.

  • The Hall factor in a two-dimensional device with indirect conduction valleys is calculated for several growth on various strain conditions. In the [001] or [111] growth direction, the two-dimensional constant energy surfaces of occupied valleys are shown to be isotropically distributed. However, in the [110] growth direction, the distribution of occupied valleys on the plane is not isotropic. This fact is the reason for the anisotropic Hall factor on the sample plane.

  • The phase field model is becoming the model of choice for the theoretical study of the morphologies of crystals growth from the melt. This model provides an alternative approach to the solution of the classical (sharp interface) model of solidification by introducing a new variable, the phase field, Ø, to identify the phase. The variable Ø takes on constant values in the bulk phases and makes a continuous transition between these values over a thin transition layer that plays the role of the classically sharp interface. This results in Ø being governed by a new partial differential equation(in addition to the PDE's that govern the classical fields, such as temperature and composition) that guarantees (in the asymptotic limit of a suitably thin transition layer) that the appropriate boundary conditions at the crystal-melt interface are satisfied. Thus, one can proceed to solve coupled PDE's without the necessity of explicitly tracking the interface (free boundary) that would be necessary to solve the classical (sharp interface) model. Recent advances in supercomputing and algorithms now enable generation of interesting and valuable results that display most of the fundamental solidification phenomena and processes that are observed experimentally. These include morphological instability, solute trapping, cellular growth, dendritic growth (with anisotropic sidebranching, tip splitting, and coupling to periodic forcing), coarsening, recalescence, eutectic growth, faceting, and texture development. This talk will focus on the fundamental basis of the phase field model in terms of irreversible thermodynamics as well as it computational limitations and prognosis for future improvement.   • Effect of MgO content on microstructural evolution and microwave dielectric properties of Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 system was investigated. MgO content was varied from 10 mol% deficiency to 10 mol% excess of stoichiometric composition, respectively. It was found that MgO-deficient specimen showed faster grain growth rate than stoichometric and MgO excess BMT system. Besides, sandwich type precipitates of Ba5Ta4O15 which was formed within the BMT grain, might lead to the anisotropic grain growth of BMT grain. On the contrary, in MgO excess specimen, BMT grain growth rate was retarded by precipitations of MgO phase in grain boundary. Besides, the Q values of MgO-deficient showed lower than MgO-excess due to precipitations of Ba5Ta4O15 within BMT grain.

  • 균열모형을 이용하여 압축 하중하에 있는 암석의 비선형 거동을 예측하는 것은 가능하다. 암석내의 균열의 성장은 암석의 이방성을 가져오며, 이러한 이방성의 정도는 단성계수의 변화로 표현될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 균열의 성장에 따른 탄성계수의 변화를 이론적인 균열모형을 통해 예측하고, 이를 탄성파 속도 시험을 통해 구한 탄성계수와의 비교를 수행하였다. 또한, 균열모형에 사용되는 초기 암석내 존재하는 균열에 대한 정보는 암석표면의 이미지를 분석하여 구하였다.
