  • The finite element method is applied to analyze the mechanism of metal cutting. This paper introduces some effects, such constitutive deformation laws of workpiece material, friction of tool-chip contact interfaces, tool rake angles and also simulate the cutting process, chip formation and geometry, tool-chip contact, reaction force of tool, cutting temperature. Under the usual [lane strain assumption, quasi-static analysis were performed with variation of tool-chip interface friction coefficients and rake angles. In this analysis, various cutting speeds and depth of cut are adopted. Some cutting parameters are affected to cutting force, plastic deformation of chip, shear plane angle, chip thickness and tool-chip contact length and reaction forces on tool. Cutting temperature and Thermal behavior. Several aspects of the metal cutting process predicted by the finite element analysis provide information about tool shape design and optimal cutting conditions.

  • Using a multiple regression analysis, a total of 78 low-Reynolds-number airfoils are examined in this paper to clarify the systematic relationships between the geometrical parameters of the airfoils and experimentally-determined aerodynamic coefficients. The results show that the effects of the maximum camber and the maximum thickness regarding the maximum lift and the stalling angle of attack, respectively, are major. The lower-surface flatness of the airfoil is also a crucial geometrical parameter for aerodynamic performance. It is proven here that, generally, the application of the regression equations for an assessment of the aerodynamic performance is relatively acceptable, along with an expectation that the lift-curve slope violates the normality assumption.

  • Mold cavities of gears should be made larger than the product specification since plastics shrink when changing from a molten to a solid state. For injection molded spur gears, two design methods for the compensation of shrinkage are widely used. One is the module correction method and the other is the pressure angle correction method. Both methods are based on the assumption that shrinkage occurs toward the center of a molded gear. This paper deals with the shrinkage rate and proposes a method of designing gear cavity derived from the measured shrinkage rates which govern the outside diameter, the tooth depth and the tooth thickness of a molded gear. The proposed method imposes no restriction on the shrinkage direction and provides a cavity with all of the fundamental gear design parameters.

  • An essential consideration when analyzing the gait of walking robots is their ability to maintain stability during walking. Therefore, this study proposes a vertical waist-jointed walking robot and gait algorithm to increase the gait stability margin while walking on the slope. First, the energy stability margin is compared according to the posture of the walking motion on slope. Next, a vertical waist-jointed walking robot is modeled to analyze the stability margin in given assumption. We describe new parameters, joint angle and position of a vertical waist-joint to get COG (center of gravity of a body) in walking. Finally, we prove the superiority of the proposed gait algorithm using simulation and conclude the results.

  • Although FRP is relatively new material for constructional use, there are several commercial GFRP bridge decks available today. In this paper we first set variables which decide the design of a GFRP deck based on commercial products. Under the assumption of linear elastic behavior under DB24 load, all the conditions of stability and serviceability are considered. We seek the best solution which minimizes the cross section area using genetic algorithm. The optimal solution shows that the shape is close to the ASSET deck with larger angle of the web and smaller area.

  • A conceptual study about the angle information based orbit determination technique for a geostationary satellite was performed. With an assumption that the simultaneous observing of the earth and nearby stars is possible, we confirmed that the view angles between the earth and stars can be use as inputs for orbit determination process. By the MA TLAB simulation with least square method, the convergence is confirmed. This conceptual study was performed with the COMS for instance. This technique will be able to use as a back-up of ground station's orbit determination or a part of autonomous satellite operation.

  • For the system of a droplet on an insulator-coated electrode, the Lippmann-Young equation is derived by considering the deformation of interface near the three-phase contact line. The equation governing the deformation of interface, which describes the local balance of the Maxwell stress and the capillary pressure, is integrated along the interface. The integration leads to the Lippmann-Young equation which is shown to represent the macroscopic balance of horizontal force acting on entire meniscus. Young's angle is assumed to be not affected by the Maxwell stress. The meaning and validity of the assumption are discussed.

  • The drawbead restraining forces for the various radius of drawbead and die corner are analyzed by the belt theory, and they are compared with the experimental results. During this procedure, the drawing angles are also varied from $0^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$, and the near part of the drawed die corner are divided into fur steps for the theoretical analysis. The stress distributions through the sheet thickness for these steps are also suggested theoretically. The wide range of experimental data of the drawing forces and strain distributions for the various dimension and blank holding forces are presented. It is concluded that the theoretical assumption for the restraining force analysis is very useful from the comparison with the experimental results.

  • A relation between temperature and time has been constructed in the self-consistent model(SCM). This relation is used to calculate the a CMBR temperature. This temperature has been found to be 2.9K. The temperature gradient of microwave background radiation(CMBR) is calculated in the Self Consistent Model. Two relations between Hubble parameter and time derivative of the temperature, have been presented in two different cases. In the first case the temperature is treated as a function of time only, while in the other one, it is assumed to be a function in time and solid angle, beside the assumption that the universe expands adiabatically.

  • A new signal model suitable for indoor wireless environments with large angle spread is proposed to improve the performance of indoor wireless communication systems. Antenna array techniques adopted for this model are discussed. It is based on the far-field signal assumption. The optimal beamforming weight vector is obtained by applying the antenna algorithm based on the maximum signal to interference noise ratio criterion to the model. The proposed model is verified using a mathematical analysis and computer simulations.
