Characteristics of Time Stepping and Harmonic Finite Element Models for Coastal Hydrodynamic Simulation (연안 수훈력학 모난를 위한 시간진행 및 조화 유한요소모형 특성)

  • Among 2-dimensional coastal hydrodynamic finite element models time stepping ADCIRC and STEPM. and harmonic FUNDY and TEA models were compared in order to find out their characteristics and analyze ernr. General feasibility and capability of models were studied by comparing model results with an analytical solution on some reference points and L$_2$norm error in quarter annular domain where analytical solution can be obtained. According to these tests harmonic models FUNDY and TEA were nearly coinciding with analytical solutions and gave better results than time stepping models. STEPM was at least 5 times better than ADCIRC in L$_2$norm error test and it was 7 times worse than harmonic models. It was expected and concluded that these errors might come from phase lag due to cold start condition and nonlinear effect in basic equations of time stepping models.

A Study on Describing Uninterrupted Traffic Flows using Macroscopic Models (연속교통류 재현을 위한 거시적 모형의 비교 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of macroscopic traffic flow models with the analytical and field data. Five candidate models were selected as follows ; Lax Method Model, Upwind Scheme Model, Hilliges'Model, Papageorgiou's Model, and Cell-Transmission Model. In the analytical test scenario, the traffic condition was assumed that could cause the building and dissipation of queue, and each model was compared with analytical solutions and the numerical results. An analytical test indicated that both simple continuum and high order continuum models are able to reproduce queue building and dissipating behavior in a reasonable way A field test has shown that Upwind and Papageorgiou's model show similar performances. Considering the simplicity in model formulation and numerical computation, we firstly recommend Upwind scheme model , and secondly Papageorgiou's model that performed will to represent traffic flow in tests as candidate models for further development of simulation model for Naebu expressway in Seoul.

Performance Analyses of Instruction Fetch Models Considering Cache Miss and Branch Misprediction (캐쉬 미스와 분기예측 실패를 고려한 명령어 페치 모델의 성능분석)

  • Cache memories are small fast memories used to temporarily hold the contents of main memory that are likely to be referenced by processors so as to reduce instruction and data access time. In this paper, we represent analytical models of instruction fetch process for four types of instruction cache structures that can be used for superscalar processors. In the models, we define various kinds of architectural parameters and take cache miss and branch misprediction into consideration. To prove the correctness of the proposed models, we performed extensive simulations and compared the results with the analytical models. Simulation results showed that the proposed model can estimate the instruction fetch rate accurately within 10% error in most cases. Both analytical model and simulation show that the increase of cache misses reduces the instruction fetch rate more severely than that of branch misprediction does. However, the analytical model can explain the causes of performance degradation which cannot be uncovered by the simulation method only. The model is also able to provide exact relationship between cache miss and branch misprediction for instruction fetch analysis.

Horizontal stiffness solutions for unbonded fiber reinforced elastomeric bearings

  • Fiber Reinforced Elastomeric Bearings (FREBs) are a relatively new type of laminated bearings that can be used as seismic/vibration isolators or bridge bearings. In an unbonded (U)-FREB, the bearing is placed between the top and bottom supports with no bonding or fastening provided at its contact surfaces. Under shear loads the top and bottom faces of a U-FREB roll off the contact supports and the bearing exhibits rollover deformation. As a result of rollover deformation, the horizontal response characteristics of U-FREBs are significantly different than conventional elastomeric bearings that are employed in bonded application. Current literature lacks an efficient analytical horizontal stiffness solution for this type of bearings. This paper presents two simplified analytical models for horizontal stiffness evaluation of U-FREBs. Both models assume that the resistance to shear loads is only provided by an effective region of the bearing that sustains significant shear strains. The presented models are different in the way they relate this effective region to the horizontal bearing displacements. In comparison with experimental results and finite element analyses, the analytical models that are presented in this paper are found to be sufficiently accurate to be used in the preliminary design of U-FREBs.

  • Self-compacting concrete (SCC) can be placed and compacted under its own weight with little or no compaction. It is cohesive enough to be handled without segregation or bleeding. Modifications in the mix design of SCC may significantly influence the material's mechanical properties. Therefore, it is vital to investigate whether all the assumed hypotheses about conventional concrete (CC) are also valid for SCC structures. The aim in this paper is to develop analytical models for flexural cracking that describe in appropriate detail the observed cracking behaviour of the reinforced concrete flexural one way slabs tested. The crack width and crack spacing calculation procedures outlined in five international codes, namely Eurocode 2 (1991), CEB-FIP (1990), ACI318-99 (1999), Eurocode 2 (2004), and fib-Model Code (2010), are presented and crack widths and crack spacing are accordingly calculated. Then, the results are compared with the proposed analytical models and the measured experimental values, and discussed in detail.

Efficient models for analysis of a multistory structure with flexible wings

  • This study lays emphasis on the development of efficient analytical models for a multistory structure with wings, including the in-plane deformation of floor slabs. For this purpose, a multistory structure with wings is regarded as the combination of multistory structures with rectangular plan and their junctions. In addition, a multistory structure with a rectangular plan is considered to be an assemblage of two-dimensional frames and floor slabs connecting two adjacent frames at each floor level. This modeling, concept can be easily applied to multistory structures with plans in the shape of L, T, Y, U, H, etc. To represent the in-plane deformation of floor slabs efficiently, a two-dimensional frame and the floor slab connecting two adjacent frames at each floor level are modeled as a stick model with two degrees of freedom per floor and a stiff beam with shear deformations, respectively. Three models are used to investigate the effect of in-plane deformation of the floor slab at the junction of wings on the seismic behavior of structures. Based on the comparison of dynamic analysis results obtained using the proposed models and three-dimensional finite element models, it could be concluded that the proposed models can be used as an efficient tool for an approximate analysis of a multistory structure with wings.

Performance Analysis of the Clutter Map CFAR Detector with Noncoherent Integration

  • Nitzberg has analyzed the detection performance of the clutter map constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector using single pulse. In this paper, we extend the detection analysis to the clutter map CFAR detector that employs M-pulse noncoherent integration. Detection and false alarm probabilities for Swerling target models are derived. The analytical results show that the larger the number of integrated pulses M, the higher the detection probability. On the other hand, the analytical results for Swerling target models show that the detection performance of the completely decorrelated target signal is better than that of the completely correlated target.

  • In this paper, we present the analytical models for substrate current and gate current of stressed SC-PMOSFET using the change of the lateral electric field distribution due to the trapped electron. Calculated Isub and Ig of stressed SC-PMOSFET agree with experimental data. Our model can be very useful explaining the logarithmic time dependence of Isub and Ig. and also the trapped electron distribution.

  • Trilinear analytical models representing the behavior of composite beam-steel column joints and seismic shear design method for the joints are presented. Emphasis is placed on the effect of the concrete slab on the behavior of the joints. To validate the analytical models, Comparisons with the experimental results are made. Application of the proposed method to seismic shear design of joints improves the seismic resistance of the steel frame with composite slab.

  • This paper analytical models of a centralized approach based on SNMP Protocol, distributed approach based on mobile agent, and mixed model which is tile existing mobile agent model in order to overcome large communication numbers of SNMP and accumulated data of mobile agent. And then, we compare and analyze these analytical models. Performance evaluation results show that performance of mobile agent and the mixed model is less sensitive to the network traffic and more profitable for complex network environment than that of SNMP.
