The fast progress on multimedia data acquisition technologies has enabled collecting vast amount of videos in real time. Although the amount of information gathered from these videos could be high in terms of quantity and quality, the use of the collected data is very limited typically by human-centric monitoring systems. In this paper, we propose a framework for analyzing long traffic video using series of content-based analyses tools. Our framework suggests a method to integrate theses analyses tools to extract highly informative features specific to a traffic video analysis. Our analytical framework provides (1) re-sampling tools for efficient and precise analysis, (2) foreground extraction methods for unbiased traffic flow analysis, (3) frame property analyses tools using variety of frame characteristics including brightness, entropy, Harris corners, and variance of traffic flow, and (4) a visualization tool that summarizes the entire video sequence and automatically highlight a collection of frames based on some metrics defined by semi-automated or fully automated techniques. Based on the proposed framework, we developed an automated traffic flow analysis system, and in our experiments, we show results from two example traffic videos taken from different monitoring angles.

Metagenomics has become one of the indispensable tools in microbial ecology for the last few decades, and a new revolution in metagenomic studies is now about to begin, with the help of recent advances of sequencing techniques. The massive data production and substantial cost reduction in next-generation sequencing have led to the rapid growth of metagenomic research both quantitatively and qualitatively. It is evident that metagenomics will be a standard tool for studying the diversity and function of microbes in the near future, as fingerprinting methods did previously. As the speed of data accumulation is accelerating, bioinformatic tools and associated databases for handling those datasets have become more urgent and necessary. To facilitate the bioinformatics analysis of metagenomic data, we review some recent tools and databases that are used widely in this field and give insights into the current challenges and future of metagenomics from a bioinformatics perspective.
Recent trend of popularity of CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) tools and its availability, partly contributed by significant price reduction of H/W and SW, makes us believe CAE has already established terra firma as de jure tools, enablint the design improvement in the manufacturing am. However, if your jobs are required to be working closely with engineers located in the front line of manufacturing site, CAE is observed far from popularity, still being regarded as exclusive tools for engineers holding advanced degrees. Conventional methodologies depending on knowledge that was accumulated thorough trial and errors, depending primarily on engineering tables and formulas or proprietary know-how, are preferred as the de factor standard under the roof of contemporary development shops. Samsung camera, having stared its business since early 、80, has accumulated enough technological strength to compete in the world market. As today's consumers demand more sophisticated featured-lighter weight, built-in multi zoom and miniature size fitting in the palm-from camera manufacturer, so should Samsung camera respond to ever-delicate consumer's needs with great flexibility. Consequently conventional designers, without sophisticated analytical tools, with encounter solving the critical design factors that have never been treated as seriousness-marginal safety factors induced by reduced size of parts. In the study, CAE results of boss and gears were demonstrated as examples, which confirms the facts that the simple analysis done by front line designers, can bring distinguishable effects on the potential improvements of design and on the consequential influences on the future design process-simulation before actual tooling and productions.

The purpose of this study is to draw implications for designing online tools to support monitoring in collaborative learning. For this purpose, eighteen research papers that explored learner dashboards and group awareness tools were analyzed. The driving questions for this analysis related to the information and outcomes that must be monitored, whose performance they represent, and who monitors the extent of learning. The analytical frameworks used for this study included the following: three modes of co-regulation in terms of who regulates whose learning (self-regulation in collaborative learning, other regulation, and socially shared regulation) and four categories of dashboard information to determine which information is monitored (information about preparation, participation, interaction, and achievements). As a result, five design implications for learner dashboards that support monitoring were posited: a) Monitoring tools for collaborative learning should support multiple targets: the individual learner, peers, and the entire group; b) When supporting personal monitoring, information about the individual and peers should be displayed simultaneously to allow direct comparison; c) Information on collaborative learning achievements should be provided in terms of the content of knowledge acquired rather than test scores; d) In addition to information related to interaction between learners, the interaction between learners and learning materials can also be provided; and e) Presentation of the same information to individuals or groups should be variable.
Dissolved organic matter (DOM), which changes according to various factors, is ubiquitously present from natural environments to engineered treatment systems. Only limited information is available regarding the environmental functions of DOM after bulk analyses are only applied for characterization. In this paper, latest DOM analytical techniques are briefly introduced, which include fluorescence excitation-emission matrix with parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC), size-exclusion chromatography with an organic carbon detector (SEC-OCD), carbon/nitrogen stable-isotope ratio, and Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance-mass spectroscopy (FT-ICR-MS). Recent examples of using advanced analyses to interpret the phenomena associated with DOM occurring in natural and engineered systems are presented here. Through EEM-PARAFAC, different components like protein-like, fulvic-like, and humic-like can be identified and tracked individually through the investigated systems. SEC-OCD allows researchers to quantify different size fractions. FT-ICR-MS provides thousands of molecular formulas present in bulk DOM samples. Lastly, carbon/nitrogen stable-isotope ratio offers reasonable tools for tracking the sources in environments. We also discuss the advantages and weakness of the above-mentioned characterizing tools. Specifically, they focus on single environmental factors (different sourced-DOM and interaction of sediment-pore water) or simple changes after individual treatment processes. Through collaboration with the advanced techniques later, they help the researchers to better understand environmental behaviors in aquatic systems and serve as essential tools for addressing various pending problems associated with DOM.
Collision between vessels may lead to structural damage and penetration of hulls. The structural damage of a hull may eventually bring about global collapse of the hull girder and outflow of oil, which would contaminate seawater. Therefore, various regulations require the strength of a vessel after collision to satisfy given criteria, and owners usually request collision analyses to confirm the structural safety of their vessels. In the process of designing a vessel to satisfy the collision strength criteria, the strength has been assessed mostly by conducting collision analyses using numerical techniques, such as dynamic, non-linear, finite-element analysis. Design is an inherently iterative process during which many changes are necessary due to the endless needs for reinforcement and modification. Numerical techniques are not adequate for coping with a situation in which collision analysis is frequently required to provide the revised results that reflect the repetitive changes in designs. Numerical techniques require a lot of time and money to conduct in spite of recent improvements in computing power and in the productivity of modeling tools. Therefore, in this paper, an analytical technique is introduced and a collision problem is idealized and simplified using reasonable assumptions based on appropriate background. The technique was applied to an example of an actual FPSO and verified by comparing the results with results from the numerical technique. A good correlation was apparent between the results of the analytical and numerical techniques.

In recent years the interest in online monitoring of lightweight structures with ultrasonic guided waves is steadily growing. Especially the aircraft industry is a driving force in the development of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. In order to optimally design SHM systems powerful and efficient numerical simulation tools to predict the behaviour of ultrasonic elastic waves in thin-walled structures are required. It has been shown that in real industrial applications, such as airplane wings or fuselages, conventional linear and quadratic pure displacement finite elements commonly used to model ultrasonic elastic waves quickly reach their limits. The required mesh density, to obtain good quality solutions, results in enormous computational costs when solving the wave propagation problem in the time domain. To resolve this problem different possibilities are available. Analytical methods and higher order finite element method approaches (HO-FEM), like p-FEM, spectral elements, spectral analysis and isogeometric analysis, are among them. Although analytical approaches offer fast and accurate results, they are limited to rather simple geometries. On the other hand, the application of higher order finite element schemes is a computationally demanding task. The drawbacks of both methods can be circumvented if regions of complex geometry are modelled using a HO-FEM approach while the response of the remaining structure is computed utilizing an analytical approach. The objective of the paper is to present an efficient method to couple different HO-FEM schemes with an analytical description of an undisturbed region. Using this hybrid formulation the numerical effort can be drastically reduced. The functionality of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by studying the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in plates, excited by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The actuator is modelled utilizing higher order coupled field finite elements, whereas the homogenous, isotropic plate is described analytically. The results of this "semi-analytical" approach highlight the opportunities to reduce the numerical effort if closed-form solutions are partially available.

Productivity analysis is the most important and significant method for evaluating management and engineering performance during whole project stage. However, it is very difficult in developing qualitative index to construction industry comparing to other industries. Therefore, analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is one of the methods for overcoming these limitations by checking consistency index using duality comparison. In this study, it is scraped up an application plan and selection for innovative tools by analyzing survey results on tool users and site managers with respect to using Modified-AHP performance measurement method.

Generally the analytical tools of data mining have two learning types which are supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms. Classification and prediction are main analysis tools for supervised learning. In this paper, we perform a comparison study of classification algorithms in data mining. We make comparative studies between popular classification algorithms which are LDA, QDA, kernel method, K-nearest neighbor, naive Bayesian, SVM, and CART. Also, we use almost all classification data sets of UCI machine learning repository for our experiments. According to our results, we are able to select proper algorithms for given classification data sets.
When low sliding velocities in the boundary lubrication range are operating, irregular movements frequently occur which are a result of the stick-slip phenomenon. Such slide motions are undesirable in precision machine tools, particularly with feed back systems used in numerical and adaptive control machine tools. Accordingly, this paper reports analytical and experimental studies in the stick-slip characteristic of machine tool feeding system. The main conclusions of this study are as follows; The tendency towards stick-slip effects may be reduced by; 1). Reducing the drop in friction coefficient in the Stribeck curve(on the rising part of the friction characteristic at higher sliding speeds, the system is stable all the time) 2). Reducing the transition velocity by the use of a higher viscosity lubricating oil. 3). Increasing the stiffness(Damping)and reducing normal load(Sliding mass) Therefore, the Critical velocity is decided from the above conclusions and in designing of machine tool, feed rates(sliding velocity)must be design the more than critical velocity.
