Prediction Modeling through Quantification for Qualitative Variables (질적변수에 대한 계량화를 통한 사면붕괴 예측모형)

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide the statistical models for landslide prediction through quantification and AHP methods. Quantification method is a statistical method of providing quantity to qualitative variables by analyzing the observed data. In this paper, we suggest the quantification process based on the results of cannonical correlation analysis. In contrast with the quantification method which is based on given data the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique is a kind of method based on questionaire data which is usually taken from professionals. We analyze both the real data(provided from KIGAM) and questionaire data collected from professionals of various related area. We developed two kinds of evaluation table which provide the scores of land slide possibility and the logistic model providing the probability of occurring landslide. Finally we compare the performance and evaluate the stability of the suggested two models.

Decision Making Model for a Public Construction Project Delivery Method Selection based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP를 이용한 공공공사 입찰 방식 의사결정지원 모델)

  • The bidding method of public works is decided based on the experience of the officials in charge and the convenience of the work, but the validity of decision making process for the bidding method has not been verified. Another challenge in the bidding method selection is its objective validation is not easy because the decision making is based on experience, when a new type of project is ordered or a new bidding method is applied In this study, therefore, a decision making model to facilitate the selection of a public construction project delivery method was developed and examined with its applicability. This model was developed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process and was verified through 32 persons who were actually in charge of the works. As a result of applying this model, 5 of the 32 persons showed consistency in using the model. and they expressed positive opinions about the model. The model can provide a guide while recognizing the fact that they cannot depend entirely on the model. Therefore, the model proposed in this study is expected to reduce the work-related burden of the persons who are involved in the related work and help the objective performance of their tasks when a new bidding method or project appears in the future.

  • It is known that human factors account for 80 percent of all railway accidents. To reduce human errors must be the most efficient shortcut to railway safety. For public transportation employees like railway, the more delicate safety management should be executed in individual level. However, there are rarely efforts to improve safety performance of workers who are the subject operating the railway system. This paper develops a hierarchy model to evaluate the human safety performance in railway industry. To evaluate the model, AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) methodology is adopted. The hierarchy model is composed of four levels which are objective, two criteria, specific factors of criteria, and rating scales. In addition, since employees for evaluation are over 10, the pairwise comparisons for rating scales are carried out by the absolute measurement. We explore the applicability of AHP to the performance evaluation of railway safety workers by an example and also investigate the changes of alternatives that are railway employees according to the changes of human characteristic which is one of criteria.

  • Artificial life is a science studying artificial systems that implement various behavioral characteristics of lives as an attempt of applying some features found in living creatures to artificial intelligent objects in virtual worlds. Attempts and researches are actively being made to apply human needs to games and express them through artificial life. Human needs and the expression of the needs are extremely diverse and complicated, so they cannot be modeled in a specific way. Thus this study modeled game AI object needs using AHP, which is a useful model in solving problems quantitatively through basic observation of human nature, analytic thinking, measuring, etc. In addition, the modeled game AI object needs were examined through the analysis of performance sensitivity and their applicability to actual games was assessed with example.

  • The Customer Satisfaction which effects directly the performance of almost all companies. Therefore, it is very important for a company to reflect totally market environment which can be changed fast and diversely by customer requirements. In spite of many studies on the marketing decision, it has been rarely applied for the quantitative method and result of Customer Satisfaction Index Assessment in the marketing decision process. This study used ANP(Analytic Network Process) approach permitting the interdependent relationship between hierarchy and decision factors in the decision process. Moreover, we propose the method which represents efficiently the Customer Satisfaction Index so that the Suggested Model in this study becomes Customer-Oriented.

  • This paper focuses on method of setting priorities for telecommunications Standardization in which usually includes prioritization, resource allocation, standardization schedule for each SWA is based on prioritization of SWAs. We mainly used the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and a modified Delphi technique as a method for planning process. Recently, rapid technology evolution in telecommunications fields increases the necessity of developing more and more new standards. Also increased complexity of technologies makes standards more complicated, more specified and more thick than the past ones. As a result, the number of SWAa(Standardization Work Areas) and SWIs(Standardization Work Iterms) is being increased continuously. Furthermore, rapid telecommunication environment changes such as deregulation, liberalization, privatization, regionalization, and globalization surrounding telecommunications standardization grows increasingly important. To cope with these challenges and to make the more efficient use of the limited standardization resources, i.e., time, financial, personal resources, we will suggest logical and rational approach that is a backbone of strategic plan for telecommunication standardization. The telecommunication standardization planning process involves a MCDM(Multi-Criteria Decision Making) process. The Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) is a kind of MCDM approach. Our method is based on a combination of a modified Delphi technique and an application of AHP(spreadsheet model). Analyzed data from Delphi technique is used as inputs to AHP. In addition we also focus on the technique how to combine group judgments and to handle a large number of comparisons.

  • Recently increasing amount of efforts has been devoted to the improvement of logistics in the marine products industry. Yet, few studios have been conducted on the development of site selection models of marine products centers. This paper Proposes a systematic assessment model for the decision making, which is composed of a set of evaluation criteria and an appropriate evaluation method. In choosing criteria we consider completeness and comprehensiveness to reach a right solution. For more flexibility of the model in the future, this study proposes two sets of criteria according to the size of planned centers. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is adopted in this study, since the criteria incorporate both subjective factors and objective factors and the AHP is known effective in the situation. This study then illustrates the model application with plausible alternatives. Finally, a dependency problem in the decision criteria is discussed and the Analytic Network Process (ANP) is recommended, in the context, as e solution method.

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is indispensable for companies in recent business environment, in which the customers are recognized as more valuable asset to increase the earning power of enterprise. For gaining competitive advantage, most companies want to maintain existing customer relationships and generate more profits with customers through long-term relationships. In this study, we developed the models which are designed to select CRM systems in financial institution, which is one of competitive sectors and undergoes rapid changes due to M&A(Merger and acquisition), innovation and reengineering in Korea. The selection model of CRM systems for financial institution was developed utilizing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the expert's knowledge were built up of three groups; researcher group, developer group, and user group. We found that there are significant deferences for the weights of criteria in our selection model according to the kind of experts. This study provides helpful guidance on how to assign appropriate weights to each criteria in selection models when financial institution introduce the CRM systems.

A Study on the Efficiency of Total Quality Management Activities in Service Sector (한국 서비스기업의 TQM 활동 효율성에 관한 연구)

  • In this era of intense competition, TQM has become the key program in organizations as they strive for a competitive advantage. It has been applied to manufacturing and service sector since BNQA model was established in 1987. TQM literature for manufacturing sector abounds with empirical studies on the critical dimensions of TQM, but there is few empirical studies on the TQM evaluation for service sector. In this paper, two methodologies are applied to evaluate the TQM activities of service companies comparatively One of them is the traditional scoring system(TSS) by analytic hierarchy process(AHP). The other is the efficiency measuring system(EMS) by data envelopment analysis(DEA). DEA outperformed other alternative methods to measure the efficiency and it can be applied to evaluate the TQM activities. The objective of this paper is to evaluate TQM activities of domestic service companies by applying TAE(Total quality management Activities Evaluation) model to them. The result of this study is that TSS scores are not significantly correlated with EMS scores. It means that service organizations must not only make efforts to get the higher scores in terms of TSS but also take necessary steps to enhance their efficiencies.
