Deformation-based seismic design of concrete bridges

  • A performance-based design (PBD) procedure, initially proposed for the seismic design of buildings, is tailored herein to the structural configurations commonly adopted in bridges. It aims at the efficient design of bridges for multiple performance levels (PLs), achieving control over a broad range of design parameters (i.e., strains, deformations, ductility factors) most of which are directly estimated at the design stage using advanced analysis tools (a special type of inelastic dynamic analysis). To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed design methodology, it is applied to an actual bridge that was previously designed using a different PBD method, namely displacement-based design accounting for higher mode effects, thus enabling comparison of the alternative PBD approaches. Assessment of the proposed method using nonlinear dynamic analysis for a set of spectrum-compatible motions, indicate that it results in satisfactory performance of the bridge. Comparison with the displacement-based method reveals significant cost reduction, albeit at the expense of increased computational effort.

  • In this paper, the linear and nonlinear strut-tie model approaches for the analysis and design of concrete structures are suggested. The validity of the approaches are examined through the strength analysis of four dapped-end beams tested to failure. According to the analysis results, the nonlinear strut-tie model approach which takes the various characteristics of nonlinear behaviors into account in the analysis and design of structural concrete and predicts the strength of structural concrete proven to be an effective method for structural analysis and design.

판넬기여도와 설계민감도를 이용한 구조기인소음 설계프로세스 (A Design Process for Structural Borne Noise using Panel Contribution and Design Sensitivity)

  • In this study, we propose a more systematic design process for the structure-borne noise. The proposed way consists of 4 steps: Problem definition, Cause analysis, Development of counter-measure and Validation. Especially, we improved the second step: Cause analysis. According to the PCA(Panel Contribution Analysis), a reduction in vibration of the panels of which panel contribution is positive and larger, results in a reduction in structure-borne noise. We have, however, met the case in which the concept of PCA is no valid in a few vehicle tests. In order to understand this phenomenon, we compared the major panels selected by PCA with the one chosen by DSA(Design Sensitivity Analysis). After investigating the difference between the two results, a more improved process is suggested. The proposed one for the second step in the design process consists of not only the previous way: PCA with deformation analysis results but also DSA. It is finally validated that the proposed design process decreases the sound pressure of the concerned noise transfer function more than 3.5 dB.

  • In this study a method for a robust design of mechanisms is proposed. The method used in the experimental anlysis and quqlity engineering is applied for mechanisms design. A mathematical model for a mechanism is estimated by the responese surface analysis and the robust design can be carried out. The method can be applied for mechanisms generally. Furthermore because the method can be used in the design stage using the computer model, improved quality and lower cost of the product is achieved even in the design stage.

  • This paper presents the design scheme of transformer for backlight inverter and discuss the characteristics related to its design, including driving inverter. A few studies have so far been made at design and characteristics analysis of transformer. Therefore, this paper manages the presentation of the advisable design methodology of transformer for backlight inverter supplying CCFL. To verify the proposed method, this paper accomplishes the analysis by FEM coupled with circuit and finally shows that the proposed design method is very useful.

강구조를 위한 직접비탄성설계법 (Direct Inelastic Design for Steel Structures)

  • 본 연구소에서는 할선강성을 사용하여 비탄성 해석 및 설계를 수행하는 새로운 설계방법을 개발하였다. 개발한 설계법은 선형해석을 수행하므로 수치해석이 안정성과 용이성을 갖추고 있으며, 동시에 반복계산으로 구조물의 비탄성 거동을 해석하므로 각 부재의 비탄성 강도 및 연성 요구량을 정확히 예측할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 제안된 설계법의 절차를 성립하였고, 이를 고려한 컴퓨터 해석/설계 프로그램을 개발하였다. 또한, 제안된 설계법을 사용한 설계예제를 제시하였으며, 기존의 탄성 및 소성설계법과의 비교를 통하여 그 우수성을 입증하였다. 기존의 비선형설계방법은 일반적으로 초기 설계를 수행하고 비선형해석을 이용하여 초기설계안을 검증하는데 비하여, 제안된 방법은 반복계산을 통하여 비탄성해석과 설계를 동시에 수행하므로 각 부재의 비탄성 강도 및 연성 요구량을 직접적으로 계산할 수 있다. 또한 설계자의 의도에 따라 부재 강도 및 연성능력의 제한, 강기둥-약보 등의 비선형 설계전략을 효과적으로 구현하므로, 경제적이고 안전한 설계가 가능하다.

UN Studio의 공간 다이어그램 구성요소와 활용방법 분석 (A Study on the Analysis of Elements and Practical Using Method in Space Diagram of UN Studio)

  • 본 연구의 주 내용은 UN Studio의 다이어그램 사례를 중점적으로 분석해봄으로써 공간디자인 다이어그램의 개념적 내용과 구성 요소 및 실질적 활용방법에 대해 알아보는 것이다. 사례연구를 통해 분석된 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공간 다이어그램에 표현되고 있는 개념적 내용은 모티브, 흐름, 관계, 분포의 네 가지로 구분된다. 둘째, 공간 다이어그램은 디자인 프로세스의 프로그램 개발, 개략적인 디자인, 초기 디자인의 단계에서 주로 사용된다. 셋째, 사례 다이어그램들에 기초한 다이어그램 구성요소의 내용은 크게 다섯 가지, 컨텍스트 분석, 객체 분석, 시간/행위 분석, 조형 분석, 공간 분석으로 나눌 수 있다. 넷째, 다이어그램의 실질적 활용에 있어서 모티브를 개념적으로 표현한 다이어그램은 조형 분석에 주로 활용될 수 있으며, 흐름을 개념적으로 표현한 다이어그램은 시간/행위 분석과 객체 분석에 주로 활용될 수 있다. 관계를 개념적으로 표현한 다이어그램은 공간 분석에 가장 많이 활용 될 수 있으며, 그 다음으로 컨텍스트 분석과 조형분석에 활용 될 수 있다. 분포를 개념적으로 표현한 다이어그램은 공간분석에 주로 활용될 수 있다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 실무 및 교육의 디자인 프로젝트에 적극적으로 활용한다면 디자인 정오의 구조화뿐만 아니라 디자인 발상과 전개에 도움이 될 것이다.

에코 패션디자인의 유형분석과 조형적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Classification and Formative Characteristics of Eco Fashion Design)

  • This research has attempted for a categorization by contemplating on concepts and characteristics of eco fashion design through analysis of precedent studies and to study the design characteristics, images, and internal values through keyword and design codes which appeared in the precedent studies. The subject of analysis was mostly focused on the theses published in international and domestic academic journals from 1990s to September 2009. The design characteristics of each eco fashion design were analyzed by classifying by form, detail, color, fabric and pattern. Method of analysis did content analysis. The results of the research can be summarized as follows. First of all, types of eco fashion design were human-ecology design, natural-ecology design, and social-ecology design. Secondly, the human-ecology design was presented a natural and comfortable form, color of the nature, and functional and new materials. The natural-ecology design was presented a natural silhouette, natural colors, and natural fiber. The social-ecology design were used a loose silhouette and over-size forms, natural colors, and recycled materials and bio fabric. Thirdly, the images per type of eco fashion design were Zen, sportive, natural, and modern image. And the internal values were presented efficiency, health-orientation, naturalness, and continuity.

Sensitivity Analysis by Parametric Study of Load Factor for a Concrete Box Girder Railway Bridge Using Limit State Design

  • Reliability based limit state design method is replacing traditional deterministic designs such as allowable stress design and/or ultimate strength design methods in world trends. European design code(Eurocode) has adopted limit state design, and Korea road bridge design standard has also recently been transferred to limit state design method. In this trend, Korea railroad design standard is also preparing for adopting the same design concept. While safety factors are determined empirically in traditional design, load combinations as well as load factors are determined by solving limit state equations. General partial safety factors are evaluated by using AFORM(Advanced First Order Reliability Method) in the reliability based limit state design method. In this study sensitivity analysis is carried out for a dead load factor and a live load factor. Relative precisions of the dead load and the live load factors are discussed prior to the AFORM analysis. Furthermore the sectional forces of design and the material quantities required by two different design methods are compared for a PSC box girder railway bridge.
