내산화성 Mg 모합금을 이용한 고(高) Mg 함유 ECO-Almag6~9 합금 압출재의 제조 및 특성평가 (Fabrication and Evaluation of High Mg-content ECO-Almag6~9 Extruded Products by using Oxidation-resistant Mg Mother Alloy)

  • 산업용으로 활용되는 많은 알루미늄 합금에 마그네슘 성분이 포함되어 있다. 이들 알루미늄 합금에 첨가된 마그네슘 원소는 알루미늄의 강도를 향상시키는 역할을 하지만, 제조 과정 중 산화 경향이 크기 때문에 제품의 품질과 특성을 저해하는 원인이 된다. 마그네슘이 주요 합금원소인 5천계 알루미늄 전신재 합금의 경우, 높은 산화성으로 인하여 마그네슘 함량은 약 5wt% 이내에서만 활용된다. 본 연구에서는 산화 경향이 억제된 것으로 알려진 ECO-Mg 모합금을 이용하여 5wt% 이상의 높은 마그네슘 함량을 포함하는 새로운 합금, ECO-Amag6~9 (6~9wt%Mg 함유) 합금을 제조하고 그 특성을 평가하였다. ECO-Almag6~9 합금은 높은 Mg 함량에도 깨끗한 용탕 품질이 확보되어 양산용 DC 주조기를 이용한 빌렛 제조 및 압출이 가능하였다. 또한 높은 Mg 함량으로 인해기존 산업용 5xxx계 합금에 비해 높은 강도와 연성을 보여 산업적 활용성이 높을 것으로 기대된다.

반용융 다이캐스팅 공정에 있어서 플런저 팁의 형상이 성형성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Plunger Tip Shape on the Formability in Semi-Solid Die Casting Process)

  • In this study, an innovative semi-solid die casting technology to replace heavier cast iron compressor parts with lightweight aluminum castings was proposed, and the application possibility for home-appliance component was investigated. The most important factors regarding the semi-solid die casting process are the reheating process of the raw materials to the semi-solid state, specifications of the forming machine, the optimal injection conditions and die design. Materials used in this study were A3S7 and hSn alloys fabricated by the electromagnetic stirring process. The optimal injection conditions for semi-solid die casting process were Presented with the reheating conditions of the semi-solid materials. To investigate the effect of plunger tip shape on the formability and mechanical properties in semi-solid die casting process for complicated shape part, two kinds of plunger tip shape with long and short plunger tip taper are proposed.

  • In the case of hollow cylinder extrusion using porthole die, the effects of extrusion parameters-temperature, the speed of extrusion, the shape of the die and mandrel-on metal flow in porthole die extrusion of aluminum have been investigated. There have been few studies about condenser tube extruded by porthole die. This study was designed to evaluate metal flow, welding pressure, extrusion load, tendency of mandrel deflection according to variation of chamber length in porthole die. The welding chamber height in condenser tube was calculated by using finite element method. Forming analysis results for condenser tube would provide useful information for the optimal design of porthole die.

반용융 단조를 위한 소재의 유도 가열 (Induction Heating of a Billet for Semi-Solid Forging)

  • Semi-solid forging is a compound forging technology to deventional forging process. Among several steps of semi-solid forging process, the heating step of a billet prior to semi-solid forging step is necessarily required to obtain globular microstructure. For the forming operation to work properly, it is also important to heat the billet uniformly for the uniformity of solid-liquid distribution. To satisfy these requirements, induction heating has been generally used for a long time. This paper presents the method to find heating condition and the temperature distribution inside of a billet with a induction heating apparatus by comparing the computer simulation with experiment for aluminum alloys Al2024 and A356.

Preparation of Titanium Carbide Fiber-Reinforced Alumina Ceramic Matrix Composites by Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis

  • $Al_2O_3$-TiC composites were prepared from aluminum, titanium oxide, and carbon fibers by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis(SHS). After the SHS reaction, the TiC phase in the sample was found either fibrous or non-fibrous shape. The fraction of the fibrous TiC phase varied with the amount of $Al_2O_3$ diluent addition. The optimum amount of diluent to make fibrous carbide was determined to be 30%. The fibers were hollow inside and made of multiple grains with a composition of titanium carbide. The hollow fiber formation mechanism was suggested and discussed. The synthesized powders were consolidated to dense composites by hot pressing at $1750^{\circ}C$ under 30 MPa.

간접 용탕단조법에 의하여 제조한 $SiC_p/6061$ Al 복합재료의 조직과 기계적 성질 (Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of $SiC_p/6061$ Al Composites Fabricated by Indirect Squeeze Casting)

  • Particulate reinforced aluminum alloys produced by indirect squeeze casting are difficult to shape by cutting or milling. Therefore near net shape forming of complex shapes is of high economic and technical interest. The complex shape products of $SiC_p/6061$ Al composites are fabricated by the melt-stirring and indirect squeeze casting process. The mold temperatures are $200^{\circ}C$ and $300^{\circ}C$ and applied pressures are 70, 100, and 130 MPa. The volume fractions of the reinforcements are in the range of 5 vol% to 15 vol%. The reinforcement dispersion state are observed using on optical microscope. By employing observed results systematically a correlation is demonstrated among the microstructure, particles behavior, mechanical properties and processing parameters for an optimum melt-stirring(compocasting) and indirect squeeze casting process of MMCs. A procedure to establish the optimum squeeze casting of Al-MMCs is proposed.

레오로지 박판의 전자교반을 응용한 진공 저압주조 제조공정 (Fabrication Process of Rheology Material Thin Plate Using Vacuum Low Pressure Die-casting Process with Electromagnetic Stirring)

  • In this study, we develop the lower pressure die casting with rheo-forming process of A356 aluminum alloy and vacuum system which can control the crystal size and obtain the high strengthened-light material. Using this process, we fabricate the thin plate for bipolar plate through the low pressure die casting with electromagnetic stirring and vacuum-evacuation which can control the crystal grain by electromagnetic stirring. Thin plate ($110mm{\times}130mm{\times}1mm$) is fabricated by this process. The average Vickers hardness of thin plate is about 77 HV.

  • The production of light metal parts using aluminum is mainly performed by die casting and squeeze casting, which directly fabricate the required shape from the liquid state. However, die casting is subject to defects such as shrinkage porosity and air trapped when molten metal enters the cavity, whilst squeeze casting also has defects due to turbulent flow in the die cavity. Both diecasting and sqeeze casting have inhomogeneous mechanical property in terms of dendritic structure during solidification. Active research has been carried out on semi-solid processing, rather than on conventional process methods such as die casting, which involve various problems. Therefore in this paper, to introduce the fundamental technology for d e design, in die casting and forging process with semi-solid materials, relationship between stress and strain of semi-solid materials, and for producing parts die design has been proposed as parameters of globulization of the microstructure and gate shape. The prevention of various defects to produce sound parts are also introduced.

반용융 알루미늄 합금의 재가열 및 Thixoforging 부품의 기계적 성질 (Reheating of Semi-Solid Aluminum Alloys and Mechanical Properties of Thixoforged Product)

  • The reheating of the billet in the semi-solid state as quickly and homogeneously as possible is one of the most imposrtant parts. To obtain a fine globular microstructure in cross section of billet, the optimal design of the induction coil for variation of alloys and specimen sizes is necessary. For the thixo-forging process the construction of the reheating data base is very important, because the reheating conditions are different for variation of SSM and billet sizes. So in this study, the optimal coil design of A356 (ALTHIX) and Aι2024 with d×ι=60×90 (mm) to obtain the globular microstructure is theoretically proposed. The suitability of an optimal coil design will be demonstrated by reheating experiments. Finally, the thixoformability of an arbitrarily shaped product is evaluated by its forming variables. The defects and mechanical properties are also investigated.

  • In case of aluminum-cased battery, The ratio of height and base of square is generally above the ten times, square-shaped and problem of non-axis symmetry. It is typical model to set up the analysis method of finite element. The reliable analysis of finite element method is suggested, which is used to investigate the possibility that multi-stage deep drawing and ironing used currently is replaced by backward impact extrusion favorable in the respect of cost production and productivity. The influence of parameter was analyzed and compared, which was considered to analyze the process of large deformation plasticity such as extrusion. Die and billet was made as the same shape of finite element model. The results of experiment show good forming without the rupture and wrinkles with the optimum velocity 100mm/sec obtained by analysis.
