Most of existing nonparametric test statistics are based on the residuals which are obtained by regressing the data to a parametric model. In this paper we compare power of goodness-of-fit test statistics for testing the (null)parametric model versus the (alternative) nonparametric model.

Polynomial measurement error model(MEM) with one predictor is considered. It is briefly mentioned that Chan and Mak's generalized least squares estimator(GLSE) can be derived more easily if Hermite polynomial concept is applied. It is proved that GLSE derived using new procedure is equivalent to the estimator obtained from corrected score function. Finally, much simpler proof of the asymptotic behavior of GLSE than that of Chan and Mak is provided. Much simpler formula of asymptotic covariance matrix of GLSE is a part of that proof.

Bioequivanence models arise typically in bioassays when new preparations are compared against standard ones by means of responses on some biological organisms. Relative potency measures provide nice interpretations for such bioequivalence and their estimation constitutes the prime interest of such studies. A conditional quantile process based on the k-nearest neighbor method is proposed for this purpose. An alternative procedure based on Kolmogrov-Smirnov type estimator has also been considered along with. ARIC ultrasound data are analyzed as examples.

Partial least squares regression (PLS) is a biased, non-least squares regression method and is an alternative to the ordinary least squares regression (OLS) when predictors are highly collinear or predictors outnumber observations. One way to understand the properties of biased regression methods is to know how the estimators shrink the OLS estimator. In this paper, we introduce an expression for the shrinkage factor of PLS and develop a new shrinkage expression, and then prove the equivalence of the two representations. We use two near-infrared (NIR) data sets to show general behavior of the shrinkage and in particular for what eigendirections PLS expands the OLS coefficients.

The purpose of this study is to establish the function of a sub-system for System Alternatives Feasibility Estimation (SAFE) in R & D Project Planning Phase (RDPPL). It is the fundamental function of the RDPPL/SAFE that selected an optimal planning system alternative of all, considered at RDPPL/SAS, by logical means in view of feasibility. In this paper, improving the function of RDPPL/SAFE, mathmatical models in order to quantify methods determining and integrating the feasibility funtion in each terminal system with a multi-stage process are examined.

Objective : To study the Oriental Medicine-based strategies or therapeutics for chronic HBV infection. Methods : A chronic HBV carrier was treated with only oriental therapies. Then, serum biochemical parameters were serially chased, and change of HBV-DNA level was evaluated. Result : The biochemical indicators (AST, ALT, gamma-GTP, bilirubin) fluctuated during the treatment period. After one episode of drastic elevation of serum aminotransferase, HBV-DNA disappeared from the blood along with normalization of biochemical parameters within two years of beginning treatment. Conclusion : Oriental Medicine-based therapeutics could be an alternative strategy against chronic infection of HBV.

When the disturbances in the linear repression medel are generated by a seasonal autoregressive scheme the Cochrane Orcutt transformation estimator (COTE) is a well known alternative to Generalized Least Squares estimator (GLSE). In this paper it is analyzed in which situation the Ordinary Least Squares estimator (OLSE) is always better than COTE for positive autocorrelation in terms of efficiency which is here defined as the ratio of the total variances.

In this paper, we develope three modified empirical distribution function type tests, the modified Cramer-von Mises test, the modified Anderson-Darling test, and the modified Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for the two-parameter exponential distribution with unknown parameters based on multiply Type-II censored samples. For each test, Monte Carlo techniques are used to generate the critical values. The powers of these tests are also investigated under several alternative distributions.

The purpose of this paper is to present how to prepare pro forma manufacturing cost, and profit and loss statements using the historical data of the industry to which the project under consideration belong to. This approach is proposed because it is relatively simple compared with possible alternative methods. The approach proposed here can be used in countries other than Korean if relevant historical data is available. An example is shown.

The 2D representative volume element (RVE) for softening quasi-brittle materials like concrete is determined. Two alternative methods are presented to determine a size of RVE in concrete subjected to uniaxial tension by taking into account strain localization. Concrete is described as a heterogeneous three-phase material composed of aggregate, cement matrix and bond. The plane strain FE calculations of strain localization at meso-scale are carried out with an isotropic damage model with non-local softening.
