충남 일부지역 중학생의 비만도에 따른 식습관 및 간식 섭취 실태 (A Study on Dietary Habit and Eating Snack Behaviors of Middle School Students with Different Obesity Indexes in Chungnam Area)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dietary habits and snack consumption behaviors of middle school students with different obesity indexes in the Chungnam area. The survey was carried out using self-questionnaires and included 385 students(119 underweight, 193 normal weight, 66 overweight). The rate of skipping meals was higher for underweight students than overweight students; however, this difference was not statistically significant. The mean time of meal was 10 to 20 minutes and the criteria for choosing to eat a meal were 'hunger' and 'taste' in all groups. More than half of the subjects ate snacks 1 time a day, which were purchased outside. The typical snack time was 'between lunch and dinner'. The criteria of for consuming a meal were 'taste' and 'price' in all groups. In the underweight group, the snack food scores were ice cream(4.4), fruit(4.3), fried chicken(4.1), sports beverage(4.0), fruit juice(4.0), pizza(4.0) and, tteokbokki(3.9). In the normal weight group, the snack food scores were ice cream(4.3), fried chicken(4.2), pizza(4.0), sports beverage(3.9), fruit juice(3.9) and, tteokbokki(3.9) in the overweight group, the snack food scores were ice cream(4.3), fruit(4.3), fried chicken(4.2), yogurt(4.0), sports beverage(4.0), fruit juice(4.0) and, ramen(4.0). In conclusion, the snaking behaviors of the subjects were not significantly different based on their obesity index. However, this study may provide basic information on the snacking behaviors of middle school students, and the findings suggest that nutrition education or counseling can improve snack intake habits and positive behaviors toward healthy adolescents diets.

Childhood cutaneous leishmaniasis: report of 117 cases from Iran

  • Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), due to Leishmania major, is endemic in different parts of Iran and has long been recognized in most provinces of Iran. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of childhood leishmaniasis in 3 areas at the southeast of Kashan, A descriptive study was carried out on all children referred to central laboratories during a 3-year period. Initial information including age, sex, sites of ulcer on the body, number of lesions, address, and the place of the disease was obtained. The study gathered 117 children, and the results showed a prevalence of 7.2% in patients with lesions among the population and 4.2% of people displayed lesion and scar. The ages of subjects were from 6 to 15 years (average 9.75 years). The boy: girl ratio was 1.2. All of our patients lived in an endemic area. The face was affected in 47.0% of cases. The encountered forms of leishmaniasis are as follows: papulonodular 27.4%, ulcer 60.7%, sporotrichoid 6%, impetiginous 2.5%, and erysipeloid 3.4%. Treatment with intramuscular meglumine antimoniate 20-30 mg/kg/day was done for 93 patients. Meglumine antimoniate treatment was tolerated with no side effects. All leishmaniasis lesions healed within an average period of 2-14 months. Hyperpigmented scars were formed in 25.6% of the patients, atrophic scars in 4.3%, and hypopigmented scars were in 3.4%, respectively The findings of this study indicate increased prevalence of CL in the villages at the area of Kashan and Aran-Bidgol. The clinical finding patterns belonged to different endemic strains of L. major in Isfahan, which indicates the possible transmission of infection from Isfahan to this area.

자기공명영상진단기(磁氣共鳴影像診斷機)(MRI)의 보유현황(保有現況) 및 이용실태(利用實態)에 관한 조사연구(調査硏究) -부산시내(釜山市內) 3개(個) 병원(病院)을 중심(中心)으로- (A Study on the Status of Installation and Utilization of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Korea)

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) is one of the most expensive and sophisticated diagnostic tool and has been hailed as the most exciting event in medical imaging "since the introduction of X-rays", but a major disadvantage, high cost, is coming into focus especially in our country. To determine the status of distribution of MR imagers in Korea and to serve as a basic material for an efficient utilization of this Imaging machine, a retrospective survey of nationwide and regional(3 hospitals in Pusan) installations was performed. The results were as follows : 1. As of April 30, 1991, a total of 33 MRI units(24 for superconducting, 6 for permanent and 3 for resistive units) were set up and operated. 91% of the units were distributed in big cities with no one installation in 7 provinces among 12 provinces in our country. 85% of the units were imported. 2. Although 42.4% of the units were operated in Seoul, Taejeon had the best condition for the distribution of this imaging machine per population, hospital, and bed in Korea. 3. In Pusan : a) 5 units were operated with all superconducting magnet and medium magnetic field in type of machine. b) 80.1 % of the examinations were central nervous system(CNS). c) MRI examination occupied 1.4% of all radiographic examinations and the patients referred from other hospitals were composed of 23.4%% of all patients. 4. The average days under operating of MRI unit a week in Puasn were higher(5.5) than that of Seoul(4.5), but the average number of examinations and hours a week and a day, respectively(33, 8.4), was less than that of Seoul(57, 12.9). 5. The patients with positive MRI findings in a hospital(B) in Pusan was 74.5% on an average.

Shade reproduction and the ability of lithium disilicate ceramics to mask dark substrates

  • Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of lithium disilicate ceramics to reproduce the A2 shade and to mask A4 substrates. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four discs (8 mm in diameter, shade A2) of high translucency (groups 1-3) and low translucency (groups 4-6) of IPS e.max ceramic with different thicknesses (0.5, 0.75, and 1 mm) were fabricated as monolithic structures. In addition, discs of medium opacity (group 7-8) with different core/veneer combinations (0.3 mm/0.7 mm and 0.5 mm/0.5 mm) were fabricated as bilayer structures. Specimens were superimposed on an A4 substrate (complex). The color changes of the complex were measured using a spectrophotometer on a black background, and the ΔE values of the complex were compared with either the A4 substrate or the A2 shade tab. One-way analysis of variance, the Tukey honest significant difference test, and the Fisher test were used to analyze the data (p < 0.05). Results: Significant between-group differences were found for comparisons to both the A4 substrate and the A2 shade (p < 0.05). When compared with the A4 substrate, the ΔE values in all groups were in the non-acceptable range. When compared with the A2 shade, the ΔE values in all groups, except groups 2 and 3, were in the clinically acceptable range. Conclusions: All translucencies and thicknesses masked the underlying dark substrate. However, the low-translucency IPS e.max Press better reproduced the A2 shade.

일본의 아토피피부염 치료에 대한 최신연구 동향 -식품, 화한의학(和漢醫學) 중심으로- (Recent Research on Treatments of Atopic Dermatitis in Japan - Within Diet and Kampo Medicine -)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate various treatments in Japan for atopic dermatitis. The treatments on atopic dermatitis from diet modification and kampo medicine were studied for 11 years (from 2001 to 2011). Methods The search database includes PubMed. To narrow the search, the following key search terms were used: 'atopic dermatitis, diet, japan', 'atopic dermatitis, kampo, japan'. The search was limited to the publication date from 2001 to 2011. Results 1. There are 16 studies on atopic dermatitis treatment by using diets - 2 clinical trials and 12 animal experiments. All researches have revealed that diet modification is effective for atopic dermatitis. 2. There are 6 studies on atopic dermatitis treatment by using kampo medicine - 2 clinical trials and 4 animal experiments. All researches have revealed that kampo medicine is effective for atopic dermatitis. 3. There are 4 studies on atopic dermatitis treatment by using herbs - 4 animal experiments. All researches have revealed that herb is effective for atopic dermatitis. Conclusions Most of the animal experiments were using mice, so the studies on safety and effectiveness are needed to be confirmed to human as well. In the future, systematic guidelines and protocols are necessary for clinical trials and development of successful treatments on atopic dermatitis is needed.

$\cdot$미 대학생 및 교포 대학생간의 의복태도에 관한 비교 연구 (A Study on the Comparison about Clothing Attitude among Korean-American Students and Korean Student resident in the United States)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the clothing attitude of college living in different culture area and to find out the critical factors which have an effect on their attitude. Samples subjected to this study were 774 college students consisted of 368 Korean students living in Seoul, 286 American students and 120 Korean students resident in New York. Clothing attitude was Measured by questionnaires composed of four variables; Clothing Attitude, the aspect of clothing habit, self·esteem and demographic variables. The statistical data were analyzed by t-test, $x^{2}-test$, ANOVA, Duncan multiple range test, Factor analysis, multiple regression analysis. The results of the study were as follows: 1. There was significant difference in all clothing attitude variables except expression of personality and personal satisfaction according to culture area. 2. There was significant difference in factors which have an effect on clothing attitude according to culture area. 2-1) Clothing attitude of Korean students were more affected by self-esteem than that of American students and Korean students resident in N.Y. 2-2) Clothing attitude of Korean students were more affected by sex, grade, major and income than that of American students and Korean students resident in N.Y. 3. The most influential variables on clothing attitudes of college students turned out to be self-esteem and cultural area. Other variables such as sex, major and income had some effect on clothing attitude such as sex, major and income had some effect on clothing attitude. 4. There was significant difference in the aspect of clothing habit according to culture area. 4-1) There was significant difference in all aspect of clothing wearing variables according to culture area; clothing wearing motives, influence by reference group about dress, dress accord- ing to uses. 4-2) There was significant difference in all of clothing buying behavior variables according to culture area; the factor on clothing selection, the place of clothing buying.

수족냉증에 대한 전침치료의 사상체질별 효과 및 안전성: 다기관 무작위 대조군 연구 (Effects and Safety of Electroacupuncture on Cold Hypersensitivity on Hands and Feet by Sasang Constitution: A Multi-center, Randomized Controlled Trial)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study was to figure out the effect and safety of electro-acupuncture and acupuncture on cold hypersensitivity on hands and feet(CHHF) by Sasang constitution. Methods 72 subjects were recruited from three Korean medical hospitals from October 2019 to October 2020. Subjects were randomly allocated in 1:1:1 ratio to electro-acupuncture group(EA group), acupuncture group(AC group), and control group. The EA and AC group received treatment twice a week for 5 weeks. We tried to confirm the effectiveness of electro-acupuncture and acupuncture treatment by checking changes in Visual analogue score(VAS), body temperature of LU4, PC8, ST32, LR3, and WHOQOL-BREF score. Results The VAS score of CHHF was reduced after treatment, and the effect continued for 4 weeks after the end of treatment in all Sasang constitution, all treatment groups. In all Sasang constitution, the body temperature of the electro-acupuncture group or acupuncture grouop was higher than that of the control group except LU4 in visit 11. And no clinically significant adverse events have been identified. Conclusions Electro-acupuncture and acupuncture treatment are effective on hypersensitivity on hands on feet, and the effect was shown regardless of Sasang constitution.

여름 파프리카 수경재배에서 근권 냉방 시간이 근권 온도와 생리적 반응에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Cooling Timing in the Root Zone on Substrate Temperature and Physiological Response of Sweet Pepper in Summer Cultivation)

  • 본 실험은 고온기 근권 냉방 시간에 따른 배지 온도 하강과 파프리카(Capsicum annum L.) 'Orange glory'의 생리적 반응을 알아보고자 7월 16일부터 10월 15일까지 코이어 배지에서 수경 재배하였다. 배지의 일평균, 최고 및 최저 온도변화와 파프리카의 뿌리 활력, 수분 포텐셜, 개화시기 및 착과수 등을 측정하였다. $20{\pm}2^{\circ}C$의 냉수를 순환시키는 XL 파이프 근권부 냉방시간 처리는 전일(전일, 24시간), 야간(야간, 오후 5시-오전 3시), 및 냉방 무처리(대조구)로 7월 23일부터 9월 23일까지 처리하였다. 고온기(7월 23일-8월 31일) 동안 일평균 배지 온도가 전일 처리구에서는 $25.6^{\circ}C(22.7-28.2^{\circ}C)$, 야간 처리구에서는 $26.1^{\circ}C(22.9-29.2^{\circ}C)$로 대조구의 $29.1^{\circ}C(24.7-33.2^{\circ}C)$에 비해 $1.8-5^{\circ}C$ 낮아졌다. 하루 중(맑은 날, 8월 1일) 배지의 최고온도 도달 시간이 전일과 야간 처리구에서는 오후 4-5시였으며, 대조구는 오후 7-8시였다. 주간(오전 6시-오후 8시)과 야간(오후 8시-오전 6시) 시간의 배지 온도는 처리에 따라 차이를 보였다. 주간/야간의 배지 평균온도는 대조구보다 전일 처리구에서 $3.3^{\circ}C/4^{\circ}C$, 야간 처리구에서 $2.1^{\circ}C/3.4^{\circ}C$ 낮아졌다. 배지 깊이별 배지 온도 차(대조구 배지 온도 - 처리구 배지 온도)는 하부에서 가장 컸다. 전일 처리구의 배지 온도차 변화는 배지 상/중/하부에서 완만하였으나, 야간 처리구는 주간과 야간 시간대 배지 온도 차가 배지 중간, 하부에서 커졌다. 배지 평균 온도가 $25^{\circ}C$ 이상 계측된 날이 대조구에서는 40일, 전일 처리구에서는 23일, 야간 처리구에서는 27일로 대조구에 비해 각각 42.5%, 32.5% 배지온도 하강효과를 보였다. 전일 처리구의 파프리카 뿌리 활력과 수분 포텐셜은 야간 처리구보다 유의하게 높았다. 근권 냉방 처리의 첫 개화시기는 4-5일 앞당겨지고 착과수도 유의하게 증가하였다. 그러나 고온기 지상부가 고온(${\geq}30^{\circ}C$)으로 파프리카 착과는 늦어졌다. 이는 근권 냉방으로 배지 온도가 $1.8-5.0^{\circ}C$ 낮아졌으나, 고온기 파프리카 생육과 착과를 위해서는 근권 냉방뿐 아니라 지상부 온도를 낮추는 방식이 병행되어야 한다.

장어 고음의 콩 첨가에 따른 저장중의 이화학적 변화 (The Effect of Soybeans on Storage Characteristics of Eel(Anguilla japonica) Gouem(Thick Broth))

  • In this study, to prove the effect of soybeans's electron donating ability and its addition on eel gouem, storage and sensory characteristics were examined. During the storage period, pH values of all gouem samples were decreased with initial increase except the control. BSB $3\%$ sample had the lowest pH value and YSB $10\%$ sample was the highest 6.71 in pH value at first storage day. The electron donating ability of soybeans were increased with the amount of addition. The electron donating ability of SBSB 20g sample was the highest, which was 2 ${\~}$ 3 times higher than that of YSB sample. L values of all the gouem samples had a tendency to decrease according to the storage period and amount of addition. All samples' a values were increased throughout the storage period, while b values decreased except the control and GNG sample. TBA and VBN values of all the samples were up and down throughout the storage period SBSB $10\%$ sample had the lowest in TBA value. The electron donating ability of all soybean samples and TBA value of eel gouem samples showed a negative correlation. Total plate count of bacteria was increased rapidly for initial storage period, but all samples showed a tendency of slow growth after the 8th day of storage. During all storage days, SBSB, BSB samples had a similar tendency of low total plate count growth. GNG $10\%$ sample showed the lowest in total plate count of bacteria at sixteenth day of storage. Sensory scores of all samples decreased with storage. For all the items of the sensory evaluation, SBSB $5\%$ sample got the highest score among all eel gouem samples. GNGSB sample showed the lowest in TBA value and total plate count of bacteria. And in the sensory evaluation, GNGSB sample got the highest scores for several items.

COSMIC STAR FORMATION HISTORY AND AGN EVOLUTION NEAR AND FAR: AKARI REVEALS BOTH

  • Understanding infrared (IR) luminosity is fundamental to understanding the cosmic star formation history and AGN evolution, since their most intense stages are often obscured by dust. Japanese infrared satellite, AKARI, provided unique data sets to probe this both at low and high redshifts. The AKARI performed an all sky survey in 6 IR bands (9, 18, 65, 90, 140, and $160{\mu}m$) with 3-10 times better sensitivity than IRAS, covering the crucial far-IR wavelengths across the peak of the dust emission. Combined with a better spatial resolution, AKARI can measure the total infrared luminosity ($L_{TIR}$) of individual galaxies much more precisely, and thus, the total infrared luminosity density of the local Universe. In the AKARI NEP deep field, we construct restframe $8{\mu}m$, $12{\mu}m$, and total infrared (TIR) luminosity functions (LFs) at 0.15 < z < 2.2 using 4,128 infrared sources. A continuous filter coverage in the mid-IR wavelength (2.4, 3.2, 4.1, 7, 9, 11, 15, 18, and $24{\mu}m$) by the AKARI satellite allows us to estimate restframe $8{\mu}m$ and $12{\mu}m$ luminosities without using a large extrapolation based on a SED fit, which was the largest uncertainty in previous work. By combining these two results, we reveal dust-hidden cosmic star formation history and AGN evolution from z = 0 to z = 2.2, all probed by the AKARI satellite.
